I'm trying to find the proper way to revert back to the default location for local mail message storage in TB (ver 140.7.1 esr).

Years ago I set my local message storage to a storage drive on my Win10 PC. I now want to move all of TB to a new Win11 PC but realize I have thing in 2 places - messages on my storage drive and everything else of TB in the default C: drive location.

If I simply change the Message Storage Local Directory back to the default path - will it move my current/old messages to the default location or do I have to manually move things (first or after?)?

I have many years and about 13Gb of email messages that I want to ensure I keep.

I need to import my mail messages, exported from Mac OSX Mail, into Thunderbird on Windows 11. I have 2 versions of the Mail exports: i) i backed up the Mail folder from the System folder These are [ .emlx ] files in [ .mbox ] folders ii) I exported direct from the Mail app These are [ .mbox ] folders

I inadvertently deleted a mail sub folder named Shopping Oder Confirmations I found the folder in my acronis backup and copied it to my desktop I then pasted it in to the profile window of thunderbird in hopes that when i restarted it would show up in my mail folders which it did not I can send you screen shots of the different windows where I dropped the folder Can you help please?! There is tons of information in these folders I reference often. Thank you! BTW I did just make a donation :)

Hello, is there any chance that I can connect in the Thunderbird APP on my phone to my 'Local Folders' used in my Home Desktop version of Thunderbird?

For example:

With my Android smartphone I'm connected via VPN to my local network at home.
In the Thunderbird APP on my mobile phone I now would like to connect to the folder "C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles..." which is located on my Home Desktop PC to see all eMails stored in this path.

The behavior and funktionality in the Thunderbird APP should be the same as on my Desktop PC.

How can I transfer total messages including date and addresses to a word document for layout and summarising. I used to do this perfectly well in Windows Live Mail for many years!!!!

I followed the recommended procedure to transfer the TB profile from an older W10 computer to a new W11 computer (both using POP accounts ), via a USB Flash Drive. The folders are all listed on the USB profile copy and observed during the scrolling detailed view while being copied to the new computer. Nevertheless, they are NOT listed in Local Folders on the new profile. Instead, ALL the messages (approx 700 of them!) are presented as UNREAD in the inbox folder. How can I restore the original folder sorting?

Hello, I have been using THUNDERBIRD for many years and I am very satisfied with it. In fact, I contributed to donations during the previous year. I have just recently noticed several things that bother me: 1) I no longer see the "insert" command appear to insert an image into a text 2) when I save a message to save it I only see the text of the message, but no longer the headers (e-mail addresses, date, etc.). Hi, Forums - I am a new Thunderbird user based on on-line research suggesting Thunderbird as the best way to relieve gmail account with local mailbox archiving. My gmail is out of storage by end of the month and my plan was to move a bunch of old messages into local Thunderbird mailbox to clear room in the google account. I have set up Thunderbird successfully with gmail using IMAP connectivity option. Thunderbird shows same folder structure as labels in gmail and displays all messages from the oldest to newest. So then I tried the "archiving" by setting up a folder structure under Thunderbird's Local Folders. Specifically, to start with I I set up Inbox_archive and Sent_archive and used right click Move To > Local Folders > Folder name to move old messages from live ...@gmail.com tree to Local Folder tree. Since there is also an option Copy To, my understanding was that Move should be different from Copy by also removing messages from gmail and move them to Local folders. At a first glance these steps seemed to work. I see unique old messages in Thuderbird Local Folders. I don't see these messages in Thunderbird's gmail inbox/sent and I also don't see these messages when I search in on-line gmail in:inbox and in:sent. I noticed, however, that google storage size didn't budge. I moved a thousand of more messages in the same way (thinking maybe older messages were just small) and the storage still didn't decrease. I then looked around in on-line gmail and found the messages that I presumed "archived" still sitting in gmail's All Mail. This explains why the storage size didn't change. I searched on the forum and on-line and can't get a confident answer on what am I missing to actually remove the messages from gmail - ideally in the most straightforward manner in one action as a cut and paste from on-line to local folders. Are there any IMAP/account settings that I should have so that Thunderbird's "Move to" actually removes messages from on-line account? Or is there a different archiving command/strategy I need to use?

I am hesitant to do any more trial and error on my own since I already messed up my gmail by having now thousands of messages still sitting in All Mail without proper Inbox and Sent tags and, thus, would appreciate the recommendation from someone who is familiar with my use case.

Hi! I am trying to use the Thunderbird application to help me view a huge '.mbox' file from an email account that is no longer active. I have the entire file saved to my computer as I downloaded it before the account was closed. Can you help me access those files? I am working on a huge project and really need to look for date sand times of emails sent in the mailbox so that i can piece together the timeline of the project. I would greatly appreciate this!!!

I am using Thunderbird with a work email account that is based on Gmail (IMAP).

My question is: How can I make sure that I will still have access to my emails in Thunderbird if my company deletes the Gmail account in the future?

Specifically: 1. Which Thunderbird settings ensure that emails are fully stored locally? 2. Is “offline use” of folders sufficient, or are there additional steps I should take? 3. Are there any caveats with Gmail/IMAP I should be aware of?

I recently booted up a new installation of Thunderbird on a new laptop running Fedora Linux after my old Laptop running Ubuntu died. Fortunately, I had been regularly backing up the old machine with Deja Dup. I restored all my files from a recent backup. All my files seem to have been successfully recovered except that many locally-stored Thunderbird messages are missing, and some local folder names have been corrupted.

Since I see problems only with Thunderbird, I suspect the problem lies there rather than with Deja Dup.

Has anyone else had problems with restoring Thunderbird from backups? Is there something I might try to recover the missing messages and corrupted folders? Should I be using a different backup in the future?
