In the new version of the browser Firefox 17.0 does not work. No matter which page you visit is always the same, it opens the page and within seconds it freezes and unresponsive. I uninstalled and reinstalled and repeats. I even tested beta versions, all cause the same failure. Are there more people with this type of problem? I tested the web solutions but nothing works. Does anyone have any idea where can be the problem?

Without further details, I assume it could be the plugins that are on your browser.

When Firefox is uninstalled, there is an option to leave behind the cache, plugins and other user data. This is pretty useful if you are just uninstalling Firefox for reasons like a clean reinstall. Try uninstalling and clearing the data.

On the otherhand, it might not be your plugins but other software that is on your PC. The usual suspects are "overly protective" antivirus software. When visiting a webpage, these antivirus software kicks in with a lot of scanning:

  • live scanner - usually scans the Firefox executable, the libraries it depends on, and the cache
  • anti-spyware - usually scans the cookies and other tracking agents
  • anti-phishing - scans the website that is loading as well as the sources of the resources which it loads (images, flash players, external JS and CSS etc.)

Everytime Firefox executes, these things run in the background, and if your PC is low on resources, these scans will take time before Firefox can proceed with what it's supposed to do.
