i am unable to get the pink icon to appear,thus cannot open firefox.

I no longer am unable to open the program because the pink icon does not appear. the small box does slide up for about ten seconds, showing some of the reminders, but does not remain open. am unable to edit or add. Have been using firefox for over a year, and it has been excellent. but, this problem has just occurred.
