When I specify an action for a download of a specific file type should the application automatically open when the download completes?

I have FF options set to automatically use Irfanview to open TIFF file downloads. When I perform a TIFF download, the FF pop up box asking "What should Firefox do with this file" appears and the option: "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" is always checked, but I still have to click the "OK" button to perform the download. Isn't FF suppose to automatically download and open a TIFF in the specified program (Irfanview) without me having to click the "OK" button since I have a program associated with the downloaded file type?
