Why is my adobe flash player not working?

I have downloaded the latest version of adobe flash. I go to the test page on adobe's website and it works, Youtube it will not use the adobe flash player. Youtube is working fine for me right now on IE6. I think it might have to do with Flash not downloading to my applications because I do not see in in the application list.
