How to Always Disable Dark Mode for Email Body in Thunderbird 128.10.0esr?
Hello,
The latest version, 128.10.0esr, was recently released, and one of the changes is:
Changed color override defaults with high contrast mode on macOS and Linux
I use dark mode, but I prefer to view the email body in light mode, as this is typically the sender’s default formatting. To achieve this, I previously configured: • Settings → General → Fonts & Colors → Colors • Set Text to black and Background to white • Enabled “Override the colors specified by the content with my selections above:” and set it to “Only with High Contrast themes”
However, since this update, this setting no longer works. Now, the only workaround is to manually click the “Turn dark mode off” button for each email, which does work. But it’s inconvenient to do this every time.
Is there a way to disable dark mode for all email bodies by default, so I don’t need to click the button each time?
Thank you!

re : Now, the only workaround is to manually click the “Turn dark mode off” button for each email, which does work. => This functionality is built in Outlook. I am curious that Thunderbird has the same functionality or not.
Now I’ve found the cause of the issue: it’s related to the “Thunderbird Conversations” extension. When I disable the extension, emails display as expected. When I enable it, the unwanted behavior appears again. I believe I’ll need to bring this up with the extension developer.
Thank you so much!

Hello,
I searched for similar functionality in other email clients and found that Outlook offers a feature called "Light Reading Pane" under the "View" menu.
I tried to find a similar option in Thunderbird, but I couldn’t locate it. Is there a way to toggle the light background for the message pane in Thunderbird?
Thank you!

I have no problems but I've selected 'Never'. I'm also a Windows 10 user so it may be a MAC Linux issue, but I would still try the 'Never' option.
I have not selected 'Use system colours'

Interesting - I do not have that option in 128.10.0esr - Are you sure you are using 128.10.0esr ? But I do have it in my beta 139.0b1 and it's available in the 'release' 138.0 I think it was initially set up in 'release' 136.0
Also if I use it in the beta, then it stays in off position no matter what folder or email I select.
In beta 'Config Editor' I have:
- mail.dark-reader.enabled = false
- mail.dark-reader.show-toggle = true
