You have selected to see 'Unread Folders' as a separate subsection. This will be a list of any mail account which contains any folders that contain 'unread' emails. So the mail account which has (POP3)at the top is the same mail account as the one lower down under 'All Folders' that has (POP3) as part of the name. The (POP3) account 'Trash' folder which is shown under both is the same 'Trash' folder and as you can see it has 1 unread message.

The same is true for the 'Local Folders' mail account which has a folder called 'Trash' containing one unread email.

If you do not want to see the 'Unread Folders' subsection, you can remove it. At the top of the Folder Pane you will see the word 'Folders' and to the right it has an icon with 3 dots which indicates a submenu. click on the Three dot icon to see a drop down It will have a tick against 'Unread' - click on 'Unread' and it will remove the selection.

If you have same or similar type of problem with Folder Pane then you can still use this question. It will not be archived for a few months. If you have a completely different issue then it is better to start a new question. I'll keep following this question. If you find my advise works for you for this particular question then please remember to select the 'Chosen Solution' for my comment which provided the solution.

Thank you for your help, but I'm still a bit confused as to what exactly to do.

All I want is 4 folders: inbox, drafts, sent, & trash

All those folders under "Pop 3" I'm not sure if I want. Again, All I want is 4 folders: inbox, drafts, sent, & trash. Not 10 That's what I have now. What do you suggest I do step by step?

If it would help you to know, the version of Thunderbird I have is 102.2.2 (64 bit) Win 10

Thank you again

It appears to me that you have somehow managed to add the same email account to Thunderbird at least three times. (Perhaps more)

I think perhaps you need to post the information about accounts in the More troubleshooting information on the help menu. Copy to clipboard and post into a reply on the forum. It may well be too long as it stands, but you can delete all the information after the Calendar settings heading to make it much smaller.

In the Folder Pane Select a mail account name folder under 'All Folders' click on 'Account Settings' It opens in a new tab

Does each mail account use different server settings ?

As mail is coming in to the one called '(POP3)' that looks like the account you need to keep. It is also the mail account that has all the correct folder.

We need to see the info Matt mentioned to check what is going on.

  • Top Menu bar' toolbar - Click on 'Help'
  • click on 'More Troubleshooting Information'

It opens in a new tab.

  • Scroll down to the 'Mail and New Accounts' section.
  • Highlight all the text in that area and use right click select 'Copy'
  • In this question in Forum right click in 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste'
  • Then click on 'Post reply'

You also have a new mail gone direct into 'Local Folders' Trash. So if you did not put it in that location, I'm wondering if you have also tried to create a deferred mail account otherwise known as 'Global Inbox', but you set it up wrong hence why you may be seeing a mail account name folder with just an Inbox and no other folders.

But well check that out once you have provided the info mentioned in previous comment.

Thank u for your help

Another recent problem is now some emails I get from emails / people I haven't filtered to go into my trash folder still go into my trash folder when they used to go into my inbox.

Y is that? (Kinda frustrating)

Thank you

If going to Pop3 Trash: It is likely there is something in the Filter which is matching something in that email which goes to Trash.

check the 'Filter Log' to see which filter moved that email to Trash'.

Thanks. Where can I find the Filter Log? I have Thunderbird 102.3.0

The next time it occurs look in the Filter Log.

Thank you again..I'll try that...Also, most times now, email I get from a certain relative now go into my trash folder & I dunno why. Only 2 wks ago, there were going where they should, into my inbox

Three things:

When I get emails from a certain relative, they all go into my trash folder in Thunderbird, whereas only 2 wks ago, they came right to my inbox.

Also, when I try to reply to them in Thunderbird, it doesn’t happen, so I have to go to webmail (where the msgs are in my inbox there) & I can reply to them there.

Also, when I do what u guggest re the msg filters, I gives me an error saying “file not found” I can’t paste that msg to u, but I can take a picture of it & email it to u as I can’t even attach it in the Thunderbird help forum thing

I can't even get filter log & have taken a pic of the error y not, but can only email it to u

Thanks

Some people try to put an image in a document and find they cannot upload it. That's because a document is not an image file.

To take an image of your screen so it shows everything:

  • Press the 'Prt Scr' key on keyboard
  • Open 'Paint' - a simple image program
  • Right click in Paint window and select 'Paste'
  • Save the image as a jpeg file on Desktop

In this forum question:

  • type something relevant in a 'Post a Reply' text box
  • Below that text box is 'Add images' - click on 'Browse'
  • locate and select the jpeg image you saved on desktop
  • click on 'Open'
  • Image gets uploaded asa thumbnail
  • then click on 'Post Reply'

Just to be clear about what I'm talking about - I created an image.

Menu app icon > Tools > Message Filters At the bottom on the right click on 'Filter Log' If it is empty then it may not been enabled. Click on checkbox 'Enable the Filter Log' click on OK The next time it occurs look in the Filter Log.

In this forum question, you can click on the image and it will appear much larger.

I checked on Filter log & now there is info in the filter log box

How does that help me?

re :I checked on Filter log & now there is info in the filter log box. How does that help me? Each time a filter runs and moves something, it gets listed in the 'Filter Log'.

In the Filter Log, each mail filtered will start with the date and time of the filter. The oldest will be at the top and latest ones moved will be at the bottom, so it would be worth scrolling to the bottom and working your way upwards.

It will say something like this: [Date..Time] Applied filter "Filter Name" to message from "email address" "subject" action performed eg: 'moved message id' to account/Folder Name or 'Delete Message'

So you are looking for the "email address" of your relative. Then you can see which 'Filter Name' put email from relative in the 'Trash' or 'Deleted Message'

This would mean you could select the filter that was named as responsible - click on 'Edit' and check the conditions you have set up because your relatives email is matching something in those conditions.

re : Also, when I send msgs to some people in my addy book, I get this msg: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.shaw.ca failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

It is entirely possible that you are inadvertantly sending from any of the mail accounts and not necessarily always the same account even if the email address looks the same. So, you might have some accounts set up correctly regarding the outgoing smtp server and others are incorrect.

I suggest you keep and use the one which says 'email address (Pop3)' as this one has all the correct folders.

At this point I do not know if you have still got all the other accounts. You would need to have removed them. The only mail account you want to see is the one called 'email address (Pop3)' and also the default called 'Local Folders'.

In 'Account Settings' do you have 3 mail accounts (plus Local Folders)? You must keep the one called 'email address (Pop3)' so set it up as the default. Select 'email address (Pop3)' click on 'Account Actions' and select 'Set as Default'

For the other two accounts: Select mail account in left Pane, click on 'Account Actions' and select 'Remove Account'

Confirm you only have the one account in Account Settings and in Folder pane.
