The page appears & the headings are there but everything else is blank. I can't navigate to anything except Settings which does come up in a new window. I just updated to latest version. Also I'm old & not real computer savvy so please be gentle.

It’s possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address box and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Windows: Show/Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Delete all extensions* files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

See "Corrupt extension files"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You may have to approve the updating once again.

What address box? On the add-ons page? I did and nothing happens. If I do it on the Support page, it says to go to Help. then Troubleshooting, etc. Is that the one?

I may have to have someone come here & help me because I find all this confusing. Thank you for your quick replies. I appreciate it.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

I went to Help-tried to start in Troubleshoot Mode. A white blank rectangle came up & froze the page. I couldn't close the window or do anything. I had to restart the computer. This is why I get flustered. I'll wait until someone can help me. Thank you for your help.

From your description, it sounds like the problem is the program itself.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox program folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. I'm old & not well. I can't do these things by myself. I shouldn't have updated to the new version. One time I did & lost all my bookmarks & add-ons. I don't need any addons at the moment, so as I said, I'll wait for my friend to come & try to fix the problem. I have anxiety & right now I'm shaking. I'll save all these responses so he can refer to them when he has time. Again I thank you & everyone else for your assistance.
