Thunderbird drops character from URL link in an email
I am running TBird 91.5.0 (64-bit) on a Windows 10 PC.
I have recently encountered this problem: I received an email (account verification from Bitdefender) where a URL link contained in the email is invalid -- but the link in the mail when I view it via my ISP (Yahoo) is different and valid.
It seems that TBird is dropping the dot from "community.bitdefender.com" in the URL link.

I presume this is a Tbird bug (but perhaps someone can suggest something else I should be doing in my Tbird message handling or configuration). Can someone point me to how formally to report the bug, if that's indeed what it is?

When I look at the message body as plain text (pasted below), the dot is present; but when I view the message as HTML (image attached) and hit the "Verify" button, the dot is missing.

Okay, from looking at the source, there is no appearance in it of bitdefendercom. I see it only in your post, but not in the email that TB displayed. I cannot determine the cause. If you wish, you can file a bug report at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/home

Probably not, the forum has a relatively low lines available for posting a message. Usually using something like pastebin is recommended for larger posts.
I this instance, I would be curious is bitdefender is scanning email. Most instances of garbage in garbage out where links are concerned come from antivirus programs modifying the source.

Bitdefender was indeed scanning incoming emails. I turned off the scanning, moved the original message as unread and put it back in the inbox of my web client, and redownloaded to Tbird. The "new" Tbird copy now has the correct URL, so you're right, it must have been a problem introduced by Bitdefender. Thx, RL
