Firefox freezes after returning from Login window on mac

This issue has persisted for many earlier versions. I like to "lock" my mac by using Login window so that all apps stay on when i log back in (Including Firefox with few tabs open). After I login, Firefox becomes super slow or completely freezes. Is this a memory handling issue? This doesn't happen with other browsers. Mac specs: macbook pro late 2013, i7, 16gb ram, High Sierra.

How are you locking your Mac? Is this different from what happens if you let the Mac sleep for a while and then you get a screen where you have to enter your password?
