I use Firefox on my Windows 7 machine and when I click in the address field any existing entry is overwritten/selected/blued-out and I can immediately start typing the new required url, search etc. but in LinuxMint Cinnamon 18.2 the bundled version of Firefox (55.0.5) does not exhibit this behaviour... Is there anything that can be done to bring this about? Kind regards... Richard.

Chosen solution

You may have to double-click the location/address bar on Linux unlike on Windows where a single click is sufficient.

There are prefs that set the default behavior when you click the location/address bar.

  • browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll = false
  • browser.urlbar.doubleClickSelectsAll = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

There is a typo with the bundled FF version it should read Firefox (55.0.2) ... Richard.

I also notice a further anomaly: When FF starts I have it set in preferences to -- Show your windows and tabs from last time... This NEVER happens, I receive the message 'Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs'. And this occurs on every occasion that I re-load FF!! Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated on both issues... Kind regards... Richard.

Click the menu button with the three lines , click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.

Under the Application Basics section, click on Open Folder. A window with your profile files will open.

make backup copys of sessionstore.* and sessionstore-backups/* then delete those files and try again

these files should be under sessionstore-backups: previous.js (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.js from previous session that was loaded successfully) recovery.js (latest version of the sessionstore written during runtime) recovery.bak (previous version of the sessionstore written during runtime) upgrade.js-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

Firefox reads them first if your sessionstore is corrupted.
