How do I turn off the use of threads?

Somehow, I turned on "threads". I'm finding that it is not helpful for me. I don't want to just "ignore" some of the emails in a thread. I don't want to use threads at all. Can you tell me where to make this change?

From the menu bar select View-Sort By-Unthreaded

No menu bar showing? Press the alt key.
