Is it normal for Firefox to ALWAYS consume 500mb memory when running a few tabs of lean sites?

I think firefox consumes way more memory on my computer than it does on everyone elses. Chrome runs way leaner. Everyone else on these forums has to open 75 tabs to get up to 800mb memory consumption. I'm at 800mb when I run just 7 or 8 tabs. Sometimes they're lean tabs.

I have robust antivirus software, plus adaware, plus other stuff keeping my computer running lean. Few plugins. Just problems with firefox.

My Firefox uses about 400mb all of the time on my system.

The amount of memory used depends upon how many addons and plugins are installed on Firefox and what operating system you are using. If you are concerned and would like to see what is using your memory on Firefox, simply go to about:memory and measure what is using your memory.

Hi,

Sorry to hear Firefox is using a lot of memory.

It's good that you try to keep your PC tidy and lean, but I notice you do have quite a few plugins installed in Firefox - perhaps more than you realise. There are 2 DivX plugins, 6 RealPlayer plugins, and several others.

It would definitely be worth taking a look at your installed plugins and extensions and removing or disabling any which you don't use often.

Cheers!
