Firefox crashes when I create a fresh new tab

Posted

Ever since yesterday (although the issue has occured before but a system restore has fixed it. Unfortunately it didn't work this time) whenever I open a fresh new tab (merely clicking the '+' icon next to the tabs) will make the memory usage and cpu usage of computer jump until Firefox eventually crashes. I have done nothing prior to this first happening except turning off my computer after having it run on sleep mode instead for the past few days whenever I was done using my computer for the day. However if I were to open up a new tab using a link from a site it appears to have a normal effect (memory usage only going up a few kb) I am currently using chrome as a backup.

Methods attempted: Uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, Resetting Firefox, Changing profiles, System restore, Deleting cookies and clearing cache via CCleaner, Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flashplayer plugin, Running Firefox in safe mode, Restarting computer.

Specs: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit RAM 3 GB Intel(R) Duo Core(TM)2 CPU 2.40 GHz 6600 @ 2.40 GHz

Wow, looks like you've already done all of the basic troubleshooting steps.

Let's see if the problem doesn't lie somewhere else.
Can you give me your crash reports?

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these: *disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed *[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Disabling_Protected_Mode_in_Flash_11.3 Disabled protected mode in Flash] *[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems#w_turn-off-hardware-acceleration disable hardware acceleration in Firefox] http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Troubleshooting

I already had the RealPlayer plugin disabled as I thought it contributed to FlashPlayer problems I had. I tried just tried both disabling hardware acceleration and protected mode both of which have not changed the issue.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Question owner

As I have mentioned in my original post I have attempted to run Firefox in safe mode and I was still able to replicate the problem I have. However, I did decide to check again and to my surprise I cannot replicate my issue anymore at first I tried in safe mode and it worked then I tried without safe mode and I couldn't replicate it there either. It appears the problem fixed itself but since this has happened before it'll probably happen again in the future. As of right now I am typing this on Firefox and my problem is gone for now but may return I will post again should it occur.

Callestere:

Are you still having issues or is it safe to mark a solution?

So far I haven't had any problems so I guess there's no point in keeping this up unless someone else with a similar problem wants to chime in.

Well since this is still open guess I might as well update my experience since the last time and not make an entirely new thread for a very similar issue. Firefox is crashing on me again however it's when I go to a specific site http://goo.gl/6VnHwy dunno why it does but I've tried going there a few times and I get the same result, the memory usage spikes until it crashes.
