i've lost all of my bookmarks, tabs and history after a download

when i opened Firefox the installing update window opened, after the main browser opened however i have lost all of my setting, tabs, history and bookmarks.

I have checked to see if a new profile has been created and one hasn't there is only my profile in the folder.

I have been using Firefox 4 for a while now and this is the first time its happened.

This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
