I just want to use firefox as my default browser.
I just want to select the firefox icon amd go to the forefox browser so I can search. I am ditching Google as my main browser.

Firefox is a web browser and not a search engine site. The Google you are seeing in Firefox is likely as a search engine. You can change or add another search engine is Firefox to use as explained in the KB article link above.
If however you are asking about how to make Firefox the default web browser on Android then see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/make-firefox-default-browser-android
