Middle-clicking a link used to open the link in a new, background tab. This suddenly stopped over the long, Memorial Day weekend.

I know I can just Shift-middle-click to get this functionality, but if you're (Mozilla) changing the default* functionality, I would assume you provided a way to go back to the old style.

  • I may have changed a setting years ago to make middle-clicks open in the background, but if I did, it was so long ago that I don't recall. Regardless, did that option go away after some update?

I noticed this today. I updated both Windows and Firefox and tried again with the same result. This works as I intend (middle-click opens links in new, background tabs in Chrome). So, this isn't a mouse driver or hardware issue.

Sorry, I make text on sites I use a lot all bold so I didn't notice. Try browser.tabs.loadInBackground = true.

@Ed

I apparently used bold text for no reason because it seems like you went out of your way to ignore that specific part.

The setting you mentioned is already set to true and middle-click does open links in a new tab. BACKGROUND is the key word in this question. That used to be the functionality with middle-click and I guess an update changed that. I want it back - or at least an option to go back to that.
