You are using a beta version, so there may be problems.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

In the old days, the "Clear Now" button could lock up the entire browser for 30-60-90 seconds. Now, the button launches a background process. The page gets at least one interim update on its progress, but unfortunately, the updates sometimes stop.

A fix for the lack of reporting is in the works, but the actual speed varies depending on cache size, hard drive fragmentation, and other considerations.

For now, if the number doesn't drop as much as expected, try using Ctrl+r (reload page) or Ctrl+Shift+r (reload page bypassing cached files) to get an update on how far the cache slimming has progressed in the background. Probably no need to do that more than every 5 seconds or so.

If the process halts before it gets down to a small number (for example, I consider 100KB a small number), then you might need to click the Clear Now button again. Since other open tabs may retrieve new content into the cache, you may find it hard to get all the way to zero.

This may help a bit;

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on Cache and Form And Search History.
