I have eudora 8ob9 which does odd things, switches to other hidden tasks while in mid email write.

I'd like to see if anyone has detail on the "config editor preferences" list to explain what each preference actually controls and what switches do what. The idea is that I might be able to see what is going on and help troubleshoot.

These hidden tasks occur at random and stop the editing process. They often occur when adding attachment images to an email but not always. Sometime the green progress bar shows a task in process that is not identified while the email edit just hangs.

Any help and pointers will be gratefully received Thanks

No you would need to read the whole source tree to locate all the possible options and settings. Then do the same for all add-ons as they can add settings to the config editor.

I have no idea what 8of9 is. But there was only ever one release of Eudora OSE and it was Rubbish as it was based on about the worst version of Thunderbird ever released. I suggest you just update to the latest Thunderbird and forget the Penelope add-on.

Thanks Matt

The actual release detail is ( from the about panel)

Version 8.0b 9 @2007-2101 Qualcomm Inc Mozilla /S.O.(wndows); U; windows NT 5.1; en-us; rv1.9.1.7 gecko/2010301 Eudora/3.0.1

Just thought it might help to see if indeed this beta release was what you thought it was.

next question: if I update as you suggest, what version should I look for and will the update kill my box contents?

Also not sure if I can preserve those IN and SENT box contents I might try and convert them to Outlook express .emls ( I'm still on XP !!)

Your help is much appreciated Thank you

Regards David Russell

Actually the version is older than I thought. There was only one Eudora OSE, but there were a number of pre release beta versions. What you have is Thunderbird. It has an add-on called penelope added to it which was the Eudora OSE version. It was a binary add-on that was released and never updated by the folk at Qualcomm. So the only version of OSE ever to exist was based on Thunderbird V3.

What SP are you up to with XP... the version of Thunderbird you can install is tied to that.

A couple to try. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/31.8.0/win32/en-US/ http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/38.8.0/win32/en-US/

Hi Matt Thank you very much. I have SP3 on a couple of PCs, and ouch! Windows 10 on a bigger beast, I will give your recommendations a try I deleted Penelope in a fruitless attempt to dosciver the cause of the erratic behaviour.

Guess I will have to find out if my boxes get messed up

Thanks again Regards
