I'm using Windows 10 home - on an AUSA Laptop I5-5200U CPU w/8 gig ram, 64 bit. In the last day I have been getting notices asking me if I want to allow Mozilla to make changes to my computer. When I went to your site, it said I have the newest version. What is going on? It's been very slow and video's hang and crash for awhile now.

I tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling. Didn't Help. Can you please help me.

Does this request for permission have anything to do with a Firefox Setup Stub, by any chance   ?

more options

I don't know what a 'Firefox Setup Stub' is. But I still get the message every time I open Mozilla Firefox.

I also keep getting emails that says 'New Login to Twitter from Firefox on Windows'. I have gotten them many times a day for more than a month.

I didn't realize this until after I contacted you. i hadn't checked my email in quite a while.

I haven't opened the messages because my email address' have been stolen several times recently. And I didn't know if the message was legitimate. Are the two related?

On the main issue, it sounds as though the Firefox setup stub program keeps getting started up somehow. Can you find where you saved it and delete it so that can't happen again? Usually, people save program installers to their Downloads folder or Desktop. If you're not sure, you could check the history of the browser used for the download (to view Firefox's download list, press Ctrl+j).

There might be an add-on or feature in your Firefox that is set up to interact with Twitter. Could you check the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Services if it exists. On the right side, is there anything related to Twitter? If so, you should be able to remove it.

Hi   Nikita.Kitty,

Some really good advice jscher just gave you;   start with the second part first,   that has priority over removing the   'Stub'.
You already have Firefox installed and running;   you don't need the Setup Stub,   but it's not doing any harm just sitting there, so:   dont worry about it.   You can remove that later, by following jscher's instructions.
'Hope your mind is set at ease now   !

Hi again   Nikita.Kitty,

I was already in bed, when I suddenly remembered you saying that you don't know what a &nbsp Firefox Setup Stub is,   but that you keep getting   'these messages'.
I wonder now what messages those are;   would it be possible for you to provide us with a screenshot   ?
I'm going back to bed now,   so I won't be online for a while.

Sorry, it won't let me take a screenshot and I don't have a camera phone. It pops up every time I click on the Mozilla Firefox Icon on my Desktop. I choose 'No' it then disappears and the Firefox browser opens.

The message is:

Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC? Yes No

Program Name: Firefox Software Updater Verified Publiasher: Mozilla Corporation File Origin: Hard Drive On This Computer

Issued To Mozilla Corporation DigiCert SHA2 Assured I.D. Code Signing CA Valid From 2/18/2015 to 7/13/2018

Couldn't find any firefox stub. Under Services it said: You don't have any add-ons of this type installed. (I have no add-ons.) The only thing in my plugins list was Foxit Phantom PDF PlugIn For Mozilla (I disabled it) but, it didn't help.

If you right-click the Firefox shortcut icon and choose Properties, Windows should display the Shortcut tab with the Target field highlighted. Does it say:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

There shouldn't be anything extra.

THat's exactly what it says.

 Here's a copy of it.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If you check the shortcut's Compatibility tab, does it have anything set there -- especially "Run this program as an administrator"? For best results, you would not want any options set or selected on that tab.

Under Compatibility there are three areas that appear to be highlighted in gray

1. Run Compatibility troubleshooter (This is highlighted in gray)

2.There is a check box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8 (this is highlighted in gray)

the box is not checked.

3.Settings

8-bit(256) color (is also highlighted gray) This is the only one highlighted.

Under Previous Versions it says Name Date Modified Earlier this month 1 Mozi... 8/19/2016 3:27PM (this is highlighted in gray)

(This could be when I uninstalled and reinstalled mozilla. )

below this is a open button (which is highlighted in gray) and a restore button

On Compatibility, the key thing is that none of the little boxes is checked, all checkboxes should be clear on that panel.

(I don't have very much experience with Windows 10, but I think if this was normal, it would have come up in other threads.)

Turning to some of the other issues you mentioned in your original question:

All check boxes are clear.

I'll work on the other issues and get back to you tomorrow. Thank you.
