After running a few weeks and then restart, FF can't find profile - until I reboot

I have a PC that's running 24/7. It's running Arch Linux (64 bit) with XFCE desktop.

For the record: I've built this PC from hand-chosen components and it's idle power consumption is only 31 W (measured).

On this PC, I have a Fifrox instance running. Using the "relaod tab every ..." feature of Tab Mix Plus, it keeps a session alive all the time. As long as Firefox is running, everyting is fine. But sometimes I need to restart it, due to AddOn updates etc. Some restarts work fine, but after running for a longer time, it says "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

But when I look at the file system, it's there. And it does not look corrupted. The only thing I can do to get Firefox back to work is reboot. Today, I've created a full backup of my ~/.mozilla directory before I rebooted. After reboot, there was no difference between the original and the backup, but Firefox started without any problems.

So, there must be something else and the error message is at least misleading ...

Any ideas ?

Additional info: As there are some more jobs running on this PC and some of them are very long-running, rebooting is sometimes a problem.

It seems odd that Firefox can not find the profile then later it can. This is speculation and guesswork I am afraid; as I do not recall seeing a similar problem.

Any chance that the profile location is somehow having its permissions changed, probably not at all likely. What about if it is filling up. Is it within a partition with limited space ? Before quitting the System examine the profile I am wondering if cache entries, sessionstore files tab-mix-plus files or even places.sqlite are for some reason ballooning out of control over these long sessions.

Consider setting up an additional Firefox profile run that in Firefox's safe mode. You can even run two instances of Firefox simultaneously by using the -no-remote option.

Also as a method of restarting Firefox try the profile manager and create a new profile in a location known to have space. Not at all satisfactory as a proper solution, but at least a method that may get Firefox up again without needing a restart.

OK, these are a lot of things to test. I'm going to try them all :-)

Because the issue is occurring every few weeks, it will take a while.

So, don't wonder if I don't reply shortly.
