Although I have told FireFox Security to never save login details for several financial sites, FireFox continually asks me for what security setting I want.

After you indicate that you never want Firefox to save a password for a site, can you check the Preferences page to make sure the instruction was recorded?

"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Security.

To the right of the "Remember logins for sites" checkbox is an Exceptions button. Is the site listed there under "Logins for the following sites will not be saved:"?

Also, could you check a setting for me: do you have Firefox set to Clear history at shutdown? If you use that feature, could you make sure you do NOT clear the category called Site Preferences. To check on that:

"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Privacy.

On the right side, make sure the selector is set to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history"

Is there a checkmark next to "Clear history when Firefox closes"?

If yes, click the Settings button and make sure that Firefox is not set to clear "Site Preferences" or other data you want to retain between sessions.

I don't know whether that affects this particular data.

Thanks for your effort but all of my settings are and have been as you suggested! Very longtime and experienced user, these settings used to work as you have said they should, but no more.

Somewhere in the Mac OSX flury of updates and the FireFox corresponding updates, one or both have lost the plot. These settings have never been changed, by me, or any of these multiple updates.

Again, thank you for your effort, maybe one of the code developers can bail us all out as this is truly an annoying "feature!"

Following up on my request:

Yes or no?

And if you immediately quit Firefox and start it up again, is it still there or has it disappeared at that point?

Recent reviews indicate FasterFox might not be working any more. You might want to try disabling it in case that is at all related.

to follow up tojscher2000, sorry my original was so cryptic that I did not really answer your individual queries, my bad. All of the settings are precisely as you have said, and have been so for a very long time. The saved logins, also there for a very long time, are also still there, unscathed; these of course, can be removed. None of the previously saved exceptions, that were also there for a very long time, are any longer there.

If you attempt to add an exception, the selection buttons disappear as expected. When you go to the exceptions under security, nothing is now ever recorded as though you have ever attempted to enter an exception. This is why, whether you simply attempt to reenter the exception, with or without closing FireFox, with or without cold or warm rebooting OSX, nothing ever changes and FireFox repeatedly asks for your preferences for this site as it always has nothing registered. Its always just the first time for every site you wish to exclude. As the exceptions are not editable(?), except for removal, it is always groundhog day. Thanks for any light you can shine on this problem! Are these exceptions placed in a separate file, that can be repaired, or replaced?

to jscher2000, I have found something of a solution and certainly something of a problem. The solution is that I do backup my logins and so I restored one from more than a year ago. There were no exceptions in this particular file. when I entered one of my exception sites, it stuck. That is, until I entered an exception for a site that is another country, which I also need to exclude. When I entered this site as an exception, the "exceptions sites" were all removed; however, this time they could be entered as long as none of the other country site(s) were added. As I use both sets of site daily, I guess 1/2 of a solution is better than none! Thanks again, should you unravel this mystery, please let me know!

Hmm, what is special about that domain??

Can you mention what "top level domain" the foreign site is on, for example, .fr, .co.jp, etc.

Or is it an "IDN" domain containing non-ASCII characters?
