When I start Firefox (41.0.1), all network access is completely blocked. Before starting FF, I can access the Web (using Chrome or IE), other computers, but as soon as I start Firefox, all network access (including connecting to other computers) is blocked. Also, my computer won't shut down anymore.

AFAIK, I haven't installed any extensions or add-ins lately.

Thank you for your resolution. Today, when I talked about it at work, I was advised to refresh Firefox. That seems to do the trick (so far, fingers crossed!).

(https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings) so most likely an extension is causing trouble.

When that isnt't the resolution, I surely will return to your resolutions.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.
