Why make it so hard ... I go to the update page and see that an update is needed. I click on the update link and instead of an update I get a page telling me how much of a super hero Mozilla is for saving me from an outdated and therefore potentially dangerous add-on. OK, I guess that means I'm a no-good somesuch who doesn't understand. I can deal with that - as long as I get the update. So I once again choose to get the update and NOW I get a page that tells me it is scanning my mozilla to see what update I need. Didn't I already tell mozilla what to update when I chose it from the ADD-ONs screen? I'm beginning to doubt which one of us is the no-good somesuch. The screen has now been stuck on scanning my computer for the outdated ADD-ON for several minutes. KRIKIES!!! I already told it what to do, and it has already insulted me twice. What more could it want??? Is it going to crash my 'puter to save the world from my no-good somesuchness??? Come on developer peoples. Lets get this screen working like it should - no hocus-pocus, no which doctor dances, just simple UPDATE links that actually UPDATE the add-on please. ... ... get to the question?? sure .... when will this rude utility get around to actually updating the add-on? Will I need to leave it running for the next month while it performs for me in endless loops of illogic? And finally, when will this be fixed so I can update my add-on instead of having to remove it an re-install a new version??? Will these and hopefully more unanswered questions will be answered next week ... Same BAT time, same BAT channel ?

The addons are plugins and extensions.

Extensions Can be considered as parts added to Firefox and you may individually set them to update automtically if you so wish. Use the Addons Manager. There is a shortcut you can use by typing into the address bar about:addons Use the extensions tab then look at each individual addon. Additionally it is possible to check all extensions for updates from a tools button on the Addons Manager. That usually gives a fairly quick result.

Plugins Are additional external software that is able to interact with Firefox. You may try to use the plugin check page which is linked from the Addons Manger. The page does provide additional information, and has a button to attempt a check & update

This unfortunately will not always help or update everything. It concentrates on Java and Flashplayer because they are two plugins used a lot, that frequently have security issues. Plugins are external software and you may check directly with the external support sites concerned. That is probably what you need to do for your RealPlayer related software for instance.

This is exactly the link that is not working for me. And the reason is flashplayer; that I am trying to get updated. Realplayer for me is a seperate download on my 'puter.

The plugin check page checks to see what version of Plugins you have and compares to the version that the page is told is current for Plugin at time. It does not do updates.

Plugins like ex Flash, Java are installed on your system and browsers that use plugin based Plugins like Firefox and SeaMonkey scans and makes use of any compatible Plugins. This is why you can only activate/deactivate and not Remove like you can with Extensions and complete Themes.

Latest Flash player (without risk of mcafee) is at https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

You may want to use the uninstaller first. Do make sure Firefox is closed/existed first for uninstall and install of Flash. https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

I'm sorry. I know you are doing your best to help but I'm just getting more frustrated. Flashplayer is now blocked in my Firefox and will not update. The crux of this issue is that I am offered a link that specifically says "Update Now" from the Add-on page when I open it from the OPEN MENU icon to the extreme right of the menu bar. When I click on that I am shown the page that says ...:

begin paste

Adobe Reader 10.0 to 10.1.5.* has been blocked for your protection.

Why was it blocked?

This plugin is outdated and is potentially insecure. Affected users should go to the plugin check page and update to the latest version.

Who is affected?

All Firefox users who have this plugin installed.

What does this mean?

The problematic add-on or plugin will be automatically disabled and no longer usable.
When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other third-party software that seriously compromises Firefox security, stability, or performance and meets certain criteria, the software may be blocked from general use. For more information, please read this support article.

Blocked on October 5, 2012. View block request.

end paste

This is NOT a page to UPDATE as the link says. Maybe the problem is more systemic than the Flash player ... maybe it is the Firefox program itself???

True it does not do updates.

But it does have graphics that are buttons that search for downloads for you, and includes the instructions

Step 1: Click Update to update a plugin.
Step 2: Complete all recommended updates before restarting your browser.
