Why is my firefox graphically glitching all over, completely out of the blue?

more options

At one point i had this issues with google chrome as well, and got firefox because of it, and now firefox is doing this as well. Basically, it's graphically glitching everywhere, various sized chunks and bits of my browser become jumbled messes of other sections of the screen, or just big black spots, sometimes just blue like the background color. I've tried reinstalling completely, ive ran with absolutely no addons or plugins activated. it just started doing this yesterday after firefox mysteriously asked me to "refresh firefox" out of nowhere. this is honestly frustrating me to the core and I don't wanna give up firefox because its the best browser ive ever used. Please help me ;~; ill love you forever Will attach screenshots of what I'm talking about.

A couple initial questions:

(1) Can you associate this with areas of pages that use plugins, or does it happen in other areas as well?

(2) If you force Firefox to repaint the page using the zoom feature (Ctrl+ then Ctrl-), does that straighten it out?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

It's not limited to any parts of the screen at any time. it happens literally all over the browser. Scrolling or zooming enough fixes it and sometimes just makes it worse. running in safe mode works absolutely fine. :p

Since Safe Mode is the most reliable antidote, an incompatibility between Firefox and your graphics card/chipset adapter is the most likely culprit. Could you check this article to see whether it helps: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.
