I'm recovering from a HDD crash that damaged the boot sector only, my files were unharmed. I am/was using Thunderbird. My Roadrunner IN BOUND e-mails were saved on the Roadrunner servers and successfully downloaded to the new Thunderbird client installed on my new hard drive. But none of my SENT e-mails were stored by Roadrunner.

I want to find my old HDD file of SENT e-mails only and move it to my new drive so they'll load in my new Thunderbird. Roadrunner support said they should be on my old HDD but because my old Thunderbird settings were in POP while my new Thunderbird is in IMAP, the file may not be compatible. Of course they gave me incorrect settings also, so not sure if that's accurate.

Regardless, even if incompatible, I want to have some way to access my old sent e-mails for tax and other purposes.

Please help!

Thanks Theo

I installed Thunderbird on a new Windows 11 desktop. I thought that I did the all the correct things for transferring my local folders. On the portable hard drive I can see the *.msf files. But when I copy them to the new computer they don't show up when Thunderbird launches. I copied them the same folder as on my old desktop. I even tried different folders on the destination desktop to no avail.

So I'll just ask, where should the *.msf files reside?

TIA.

I have read your explanation on how to move TB to another PC. BUT this explanation assumes there is an App Data folder on the new PC. In Windows 11, there is no App Data folder and there appears to be no Profiles folder.

I had a tech guy move TB to the new PC, and I can now get and receive emails there. He could also copy over my Sent and Address folders, but NOT my older emails or, more importantly, my Calendar. How do I get TB to run on a Windows 11 PC like it does on my old Windows 10?

Thank you. Jim Bachman

I am trying to import a backup of my gmail using using ImportExportTools.

What does this error message mean? Is there a corrupt email in my gmail? If so how can I find and delete it so I can complete the import, I think it was close to finishing.

2nd question.... After clicking OK on the error message I can select the local folder it was importing and I can see it is then downloading a range of messages with mention of their labels in the bottom of the window but the labels are not creating folders. Should I expect it to do that?

Running Thunderbird V130.0.2 64-bit on Win 11 Pro. I have several profiles, mostly on Gmail. Yesterday I had to change all of my email passwords. I was able to change passwords on Thunderbird for all but one of the Gmail accounts. I still don't understand why I had this issue with one Gmail account but not 2 others. Eventually I deleted the profile in question and created a new profile (same Gmail email address / account).

Which was fine but in doing this I lost my local email folders. I have all of the email folders and I tried just moving them from old profile to new one. This worked fine for local folders (at least the ones I tried) but not for nested folders. The support I've found so far tells me how to move the entire profile, but that doesn't work (I run into the same password problem as I did yesterday).

Is there a way to tell Thunderbird about these nested local email folders so they will be found upon Thunderbird startup? I haven't found it yet.

My local email folders are found here: C:\Users\<Windows Account>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Thunderbird profile>\Mail\Local Folders

Thanks in advance.

I bought a new PC in February, backed up all emails and transferred onto new PC. All working fine until last week when windows OS crashed the new PC, managed to re-download Thunderbird and installed everything from back-up USB emails up to February. From February to today no emails have been uploaded in the "local folders". Is there a cloud/ server that stores my old emails in the local folders, so I can recover them, or even a program?

I am attempting to transfer my Thunderbird Profile from and old computer (call it "SOURCE") to a new computer ("TARGET"). I have tried everything prescribed in the documentation. It fails every time.

[1] I tried importing the ".Thunderbird\Profiles\xyz.default: folder from SOURCE to TARGET (Tools -> Import). It starts the import, but soon aborts with the incomprehensible message:

1747152229330 addons.xpi WARN Checking C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\distribution\extensions for addons Found 0 public keys and 0 secret keys (0 protected, 0 unprotected) RNPLib.jsm:559:15 1747152229736 addons.xpi WARN Addon with ID thunderbird-compact-light@mozilla.org already installed, older version will be disabled 1747152229736 addons.xpi WARN Addon with ID thunderbird-compact-dark@mozilla.org already installed, older version will be disabled Uncaught NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE: Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIWebProgress.addProgressListener] <anonymous> chrome://messenger/content/aboutMessage.js:119 aboutMessage.js:119 1747152289419 Toolkit.Telemetry WARN TelemetryStorage::_scanArchive - have seen this id before: e4a0732e-f511-4cb6-ba38-be42dbd2b48f, overwrite: false Uncaught (in promise) NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND: Component returned failure code: 0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIFile.copyTo] _recursivelyCopyMsgFolder resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:659 _importMailMessages resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:588 _importServersAndAccounts resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:248 2 ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:659

I have tried importing over a network, and also after copying the whole Profile from SOURCE to TARGET first, in an intermediate work area.

[2] I can't Zip my Profile, it's 16GB.

[3] I tried manually copying the profile directly from SOURCE to TARGET's "C:\Users\myLoginID\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\". When I start Thunderbird, it only shows the first few email folders, the rest are missing.

I have used this procedure successfully many years ago between two other computers.

I am desperate, I put my trust in Thunderbird, and now I cannot move forward, my business is in jeopardy. My old computer has started failing, it's on its last legs, and could soon become unusable.

I contribute to Thunderbird every year, and am a strong supporter.

Just got a new pc with windows 11, I used the export from my older Thunderbird to create the file and it worked great, but I messed up when I installed Thunderbird on my new pc, I was so impressed (and curious) that Thunderbird could auto set up my email account, so I let it do it and it worked. I have 3 email accounts and when I used the import I thought it would overwrite the one it just created, but it didn't so I'm missing 3-4 folders I had on that one account It imported the other 2 accounts and folders great Is there a way I can get those folders from the old pc and copy over to the new?

I tried to uninstall Thunderbird from the new pc so I could do it right, only use the import function and get everything, but it doesn't uninstall much, everything is still there. Or is there another way? Thanks.

Hello, sorry for the question but I can't solve it alone

My issue : I think my emails have been deleted. Its something like 500mb of content.

I'm on Windows 10; on 128.9.2esr version for Thunderbird.

You see how the path is structured: account@mail.com/inbox/... I moved my mails folders into the folder account@mail.com (instead of account@mail.com/inbox/) Closed thunderbird Restarted thunderbird

All folders at account@mail.com/ disappeared.

I tried to find them. I created a folder named "TestAccountFindThunderbird" I moved account@mail.com/inbox/TestAccountFindThunderbird into account@mail.com/TestAccountFindThunderbird Closed thunderbird Restarted thunderbird "TestAccountFindThunderbird" disappeared as well

and making a research on C:\ drive I managed to find TestAccountFindThunderbird.msf inside the folder at C:\Users\<my_account>\AppData\Local\Temp\MozillaMailnews

At the same place I found also the other things that disappeared from my mail account Health.msf, Apple.msf, Work.msf, Insurances.msf, Bank.msf, ... But they are all .msf files...

I saved them into a backup folder. Then I copy pasted all that content from backup to INBOX.sbd but when I open Thunderbird in a blink they are all removed. I guess its because they are .msf and not actual content.

1) Why when I move a mail folder into account@mail.com/ then the folder disappears/is deleted? 2) Where are my emails? And how do I reimport them? 3) Why do I have traces of them into AppData\Local\Temp\MozillaMailnews?

Thanks in advance

Hello

I downloaded mails from my imap server to desktop and deleted them from the server. To see them when I am not at home I wanted to import them in the TB app.

I installed the app, used the QR code from TB desktop to import the data and inserted my password. After importing I only see mails from my imap server but no mails which are only stored in the TB desktop.

Why? Is there a way to import these mails in the app too?

Thanks in advance Tom

I would like to copy a large folder of messages, 211mb, from under Local Folders to a folder under another account. If I try to copy or move the folder from Local Folders only a portion of the messages are copied - 35mb worth. I have tried all sorts of ways to copy the messages including copying small numbers of messages to the new folder. I can copy 1 extra message but not larger quantities. I an running Thunderbird on Win11 and the accounts are all pop. I tried Importexport NG but that will only import a mbox under local folders. Not what I want.

I have three email accounts on my computer, one IMAP and two POP. I need to move these accounts to a new Windows 11 computer. I want all of the accounts on the new computer to be IMAP. So I have two POP accounts containing messages that I need to move to IMAP accounts on my new computer.

When I open the profile folder on my current computer it has a MAIL folder and a ImapMail folder. The MAIL folder contains a Local Folder and a pop.1and1.com folder. Each of these subfolders contains the Inbox, Sent, Trash etc. folders that contain the email messages to be moved to the new computer.

I see lots of information on moving the profile but that doesn't address the POP to IMAP conversion issue or the fact there are three different accounts involved.
