What settings do you suggest to allow access to my att email account? I am using Thunderbird V 140.0.1 esr on an iMAC running iOS 10.15.7. The attached screenshots show the results of attempts to re-establish the account and the resulting error messages. It appears that the server settings need tweaking, since the user name and password are those I use to log in successfully to the att account with both Firefox and my iPhone. Thank you, Vince K.

Using the exact same credentials, Outlook had no problem linking to my e-mail account. I want to use Thunderbird. Any ideas?

Also, if I can get it going, is there a way to import hundreds of saved emails from Thunderbird on the old computer?

How can I move emails within Thunderbird? I want to move emails from the Sent folder of my old email account to the Sent Folder of my current email account. Emails don't move when I right-click on them and select "Move to" and then select the destination folder. All that happens is that the Thunderbird status bar reports: "Looking up pop...." "Connecting to pop..." "Connected to pop..." "Checking mail server capabilities."

Thunderbird couldn't connect to ATT/yahoo mail with the error "Sending of username did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Unsupported SASL mechanism." I am totally unfamiliar with this issue but know it involves an encrypted password. A net search so far is of little help though I did run into a statement that windows doesn't have this issue. I use linux and searching my package manager I find quite a few SASL mechanism plugins (who knew?) but no way to differentiate any. ATT's site is useless. Is anyone here familiar with this problem? In the meantime, I see 1 called login mechanism plugin - no, thats deprecated of course, says use the plain one so its that one for me. Tnx...

400. That’s an error.

The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know.

the last time I received an email update on my desktop PC (Win 7 Pro) was 4:08PM (yes, PM) for one account and 4:44AM (yes, AM) for the other account. On my phone, the 4:08PM is the same but the other email account recd an update at 3:17PM.

Since upgrade to 128.10.1esr, list of emails in local folders is visible, but cannot view email contents, cannot forward, cannot reply, cannot move, cannot delete.

IMAP folder functionality is all OK.

Occurs in both 64 bit and 32 bit versions of 128.10.1esr

After this occurred on 64 bit machine, we had 32 bit two machines running a previous version of Thunderbird that were still able to access (read, forward, delete, etc) emails in the same local folders (local folders are on network and accessible to 3 different computers).

After upgrading one of them, access to emails on local folders broke on that one, but still working on remaining machine running older version.

This means it is not corruption of local folders (e.g. folder repair and .msf deletion don't make any difference).

It seems to be a problem with this version since update.

How can this be fixed, do we need to wait for another update?

After working fine for years, Thunderbird stopped receiving email from my POP accounts a month ago and I haven't been able to get it to work since. After weeks of experimentation and frustration, the only way I can get TB to download POP mail is to install and run it in Windows Safe Mode with networking. However, once installed in Windows Safe Mode, TB run in Windows normal mode will successfully send messages from each account.

It would take pages to describe everything I've tried, so I won't. The results of all the tweaking and updates is the system specs below.

OS: Windows 10 Home (x64) version 22H2 AVS: BitDefender Email: Thunderbird 102.15.1 Add-ons: None Theme: Default Accept cookies: Always Exceptions: (added any that seemed even remotely associated with issue) https://accounts.google.com https://mail.google.com https://www.googleapis.com https://pop.gmail.com https://pop.gmail.com:995 https://smtp.gmail.com https://smtp.gmail.com:587 https://pop.centurylink.com https://pop.centurylink.com:995 https://smtp.centurylink.com https://smtp.centurylink.com:587

Saved passwords: mailbox://pop.centurylink.net (mailbox://pop.centurylink.net) Oauth://accounts.google.com (https://mail.google.com https://www.googleapis.com/auth/carddav https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar) smtp://smtp.centurylink.com (smtp://smtp.centurylink.com) smtp://smtp.gmail.com (smtp://smtp.gmail.com)

Hardware acceleration: Off

Gmail POP server: pop.gmail.com Port: 995 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: Oauth2

Gmail SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com Port: 587 Security: STARTTLS Authentication: Oauth2

CenturyLink POP server: pop.centurylink.net Port: 995 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal password

CenturyLink SMTP server: smtp.centurylink.com Port: 587 Security: STARTTLS Authentication: Normal password

I'm at a total loss as to what I've missed or where to look next. I would appreciate any help.

I'm using Thunderbird 128.11.0esr (64-bit) on a Win 10 system, and my email host is DigitalSpace, a Verizon company.

As of this morning, TB no longer gives me a password dialog when I start the app. So, I forced that dialog by sending out a dummy email, and I enter my credentials when asked. Outgoing messages go out without incident.

But even though my password is accepted for SMTP use, the POP incoming function no longer responds to File/Get New Messages for . None of the selections will download any emails.

The banner at the very bottom of the Thunderbird window usually displays a "retrieving emails" message yesterday, as usual. But now this banner is completely blank, nothing happening.

DigitalSpace has given me what they say is the correct POP Server name, and they specify that I should use Port 110. I've attempted to reach the POP server by its name and by its IP4 address, but I see the same fail with both: No response.

Note 1: I'm deleting all cookies at every log-off. Is there any chance that this is affecting TB's performance?

Note 2: Non-Mozilla fix websites have suggested accessing the TB Profile folder, and deleting file global-messages-db.SQLITE . I tried that, but it didn't fix the problem.

==> Can you tell me if there are any additional settings that I need to adjust?

Thanks very much, Bill Bailey Santa Clara, CA

Hoping that someone can get me pointed in the right direction to sort out a problem I'm having.

I've been using Thunderbird successfully for a number of years on a few different PCs to access my email account. It worked just fine years ago with AT&T and more recently Frontier email servers. Several months ago Frontier discontinued their email service. But I had a "Free Email For Life" account which they automatically switched over to a Yahoo Email account which allowed me to continue using my long standing "@Frontier.com" address. The change over went pretty smoothly and Thunderbird was still working as expected. Until it didn't.

In the last month or two Thunderbird in two Windows machines will not connect to my Yahoo email account. I continually get messages indicating a "time out" issue when attempting to connect. But I can still access my email by logging directly into my Yahoo webmail account.

The two main Thunderbird installations, one on a Win 10 laptop and another on a Win 7 Pro desktop are the main problem areas with time-outs and no connection established. Oddly enough Thunderbird for Android seems to work just fine on my phone.

The only free tech help that Yahoo would provide was essentially to check my SMTP server settings, which I did again for probably the fourth or fifth time. I also changed my password which was a couple years old . . . just in case. But I'm still spinning my wheels.

Hopefully someone else has had a similar experience and can tell me what I may have overlooked. I don't want to switch to Gmail or any other server if I can avoid it. Yahoo offers their own 3rd party app but it seems a bit futzier and more invasive than Thunderbird. Somebody please point me in the right direction of where to dig in next.

I am so frustrated with Thunderbird I'm about to give up and find another app. I had to reload Windows 11 on my computer and before I started I saved all the Thunderbird info as instructed by support. Now that I am back up and running I'm trying to get Thunderbird back. When I down load a new version of Thunderbird it sees that I did have an account in the past and wants to use that info again. I get to a page where I have to put my full name in, then my email address and then a password. The only password I can find in my password folder(real paper) I can only find a Firefox password. I put that in and continue. It recognizes the password and shows me the info it wants to use for my account. I click on "done" and it starts looking for a password again. After a long search it comes back with a yellow box and says "its unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name or password." I've tried changing the Primary password but get no results, not able to. Tried uninstalling and running the version I have stored from before the Windows reinstall and I always end up in the same place......I've been banging my head against the wall on this for several days now and am ready to use Microsofts software instead...... Any ideas before I delete and give up on Thunderbird???

I ask the following question a WEEK ago. No one has offered a solution. Can someone put me in touch with Thunderbird Tech Support?

Recap

Thunderbird(TB) gets mail from Hotmail, my own domain, and gmail. I've use and auto-updated this program for the past 20 years. This is the first major problem I've had. Nothing has changed, ie: updates, new programs, or the like.

TB has stopped retrieving new mail since 05.12.2025. I can send mail but not receive mail. ALL settings are correct. I can go to the original sites individually and all the mail is there. Obviously I can send and receive mail on those sites, but TB will only send mail not receive it. The only thing I have not done is uninstall/reinstall.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

New Info: No error messages, sometimes when I click on "inbox" it says "Loading Messages" but it says that FOREVER.

Second question: If I re-install, can I bring all my setup, filters, and boxes to the new install without having to recreate everything from scratch. I have at least 100 subfolders and as many filters.

I have been a Thunderbird user for over 10 years and recently my employer has started switching us over to Google Workspace emails. I'm trying to add the email to Thunderbird, but keep getting a blank gray screen (Image 2) in the Google pop-up after clicking "Allow" (Image 1). No error messages are displayed anywhere in the pop-up or in Thunderbird.

I have tried several times with no success. I've tried rebooting, same issue. I've tried disabling all the plugins in Thunderbird, same issue. I've let the screen sit there for over 20 minutes and nothing occurs. I even tried one-time hitting "Deny" and got the same blank screen.

As it is occurring inside Thunderbird itself, I have no way of telling what is going wrong. I know I am signing into my new Google account successfully as I wouldn't reach the page with "Allow".

Anybody know what I can do?

Starting this morning, only one of my three Earthlink email addresses I have set up in Thunderbird is downloading email from the Earthlink POP server. I have verified there are messages using the Earthlink app and web mail. It seems to contact only that one email address host and not the other two. It seems it is not even looking for messages to download on the other two. If I right click on the email account in the left bar and select, "Get Messages", nothing happens in the bottom status bar for those two, but the third shows it contacts the server. All worked fine just yesterday. I am running Windows 10 and Thunderbird Portable. I am using McAfee AV. What can I do to get those two email accounts to work with the server again? Thanks!

I've been using Thunderbird for years to access my gmail account through my ieee alias. Sometime after 4/2/2025 my login fails with the message "Login to server imap.googlemail.com....failed". I've tried changing the imap server to "imap.gmail.com" but get similar results. For some reason, it appears that something changed on 4/3 that prevents a successful login to the gmail server from Tbird. I have both Tbird and gmail configured for OAuth2.
