There is a black box on the top left corner whenever firefox is maximized. This problem appeared when I got my new computer screen (Asus 27" TUF Gaming VG27AQ1A, 170Hz WQHD). My old computer screen (23.6" VE247H LED, Full HD, 2ms, 10M:1) didn't have this issue.

Any help how to fix this issue?

My firefox on my Mac will not open in full screen mode. It use to open in Full screen, but now no matter what I do when I close it out then try to reopen it, it opens in half screen mode. I set it to full screen mode in the setting but no luck. I tried deleting it and re-downloading it. I tried every tip online but nothing works.

I recently needed to reinstall Firefox to attempt to deal with an issue. It turned out Firefox was not the cause but when the new browser opened, it did not have the Home icon on the toolbar.

I went to "Customize toolbar" and added it but now it shows up on the far right end of the toolbar. It used to be to the left of the URL area. I tried to grab it with the mouse and drag it but it won't move.

Every time I need to jump to a home page I end up going where it used to be. I realize this is small potatoes but is there any way to get it back where it used to be?

Hi,

I recently set a custom background image for the Firefox new tab page (and possibly the homepage), but now I’d like to remove or replace it.

I’ve already tried:

   Going to about:config and enabling the following:
       browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newtabWallpapers.customWallpaper.enabled → true
       browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newtabWallpapers.ui.enabled → true
   Searching for a gear icon or any UI options on the new tab or homepage – but nothing appears.

I also checked about:preferences#home but there are no visible options to manage background images.

How can I remove or change the custom background image? I’d appreciate instructions, config paths, or a file location where I can delete the image manually.

Thank you! p.s. I'm stuck with a background image that makes my shortcuts unreadable and it's driving me crazy. 😅

I have recently got a new work laptop and have imported my bookmarks and passwords. However, I am unable to get the bookmarks toolbar to show up? The usual way of enabling it to always show or only show on new tabs doesn't work and I have a message on the toolbar that says "For quick access, place your bookmarks here on the bookmarks toolbar. Manage Bookmarks..." But nothing works. Please can you assist as it is driving me nuts.

Hi,

I'm using FF (128.8.0esr) on Debian testing.

Is there a way to open a site as window w/o any toolbars/menu etc. , preferably from the command-line, some magic switch?

This thread https://tinyurl.com/24b5q2t2 discusses the "ssb" switch but it's not available in this browser.

Thanks

Hi Friends, I'm using Firefox for Linux Mint, mint-001 - 1.0, 133.0.3 (64-bit) on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon 6.2.9. There is no theme for Linux Mint, but for Firefox, I'm using a theme called "Dark-Blue (o-plot) Dark-Blue theme".

Yes, I realize it's out of date. I'll be happy to update if it's needed to solve this problem. Well, maybe it's time for an update anyway.... We'll see.

Anyway, I found in Linux, the System Settings dialog, which has a few settings for scrollbars. So I made them wider (easier to grab with the mouse). But in the dialog there's a caveat that says it might not work for every program. And indeed, it works in every dialog and program except for Firefox.

First question: Is there any way to make the Firefox scrollbars wider?

Relatively recently, I migrated to Linux Mint from Windows. I don't know if the change in the scrolbar appearance and behavior is more related to industry trends, or if this is just Linux's way. But I sorely miss the 2 buttons at the top and bottom of the scrollbar (from Windows) that allow you to scroll one click at a time. I also miss the ability to scroll one page or screen at a time, by clicking above or below the scrollbar

Second question: Is there any way to get the scroll buttons back?

Fyi, I did search before coming here to ask for help. I found one message which appears to offer a solution. But it's too technical for me to try it on my own. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1513734

If that is indeed a correct solution, maybe you call could simplify it for me? Or maybe there is an even simpler or better solution?

Thank you very much.

Reference: Firefox Desktop 139.0.1. See the attached image. What does the overlaid blue (cable with plug?) icon mean on top of my Grid Overlay bookmarklet? The overlay appeared after the update to v139.0.1 (desktop) on Arch Linux. And only on top of my bookmarklet. In case it's relevant. The bookmarklet consists of JS that injects some HTML in the rendered webpage and then beckons my grid overlay. Self developed to overlay my own web layouts.

Until recently (like last week-ish) My Bookmarks Sidebar ONLY showed bookmarks. NOW, within the past few days the "bookmarks tools column" has been added to the screen-view. I have removed the 'tools' but the 'blank column' remains and takes up noticeable space on my laptop screen. How can I remove that 'column' ? Was this caused by a recent firefox update OR a win-365 'auto-update' ? Attached pic of screen - Here at the LEFT side is the 'blank column' with the 'settings Gear' at the bottom of the column. That is the column I want to 'Remove'.

Some extensions, like Bitwarden or Notes, seem to have added their own shortcut icons between the settings cog and the other functions below the tabs, with seemingly no way to remove them? I already have them in my regular toolbar / extension overflow, which has much more space available, so I don't see the point of why there's duplicate ones in the sidebar taking away tab space?

I am using the Flatpak version of Firefox on Linux Mint Cinnamon (Ubuntu/Debian) [Mozilla flatpak - 1.0 (138.0.4 (64-bit))].

When I search with Google, a lot of the search results tell me to make changes to /~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css, but I already did that a long time ago, before I installed the Firefox flatpak.

All of my regular apps and Flatpak apps (except Firefox) that I run have correct scroll bars with buttons on the ends.

(With some of my apps, like KDE Dolphin file manager, the buttons are invisible, i.e., the graphical arrows do not render, but if I click in the blank spots at the ends of the scroll bars, the buttons are there and function correctly, even if they are not graphically represented. In Firefox, there are no buttons, visible or invisible.)

It seems to me that Firefox is not using system scroll bars (whereas my other apps do and show correct scroll bars), so I'm not sure that messing around in /~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css is going to help me. Considering that Firefox seems to be using its own (non-system) scroll bars, I thought I would have to do it through about:config rather than my system settings in gtk.css.

Can you please tell me what to change in about:config?

You would think it would be "widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.allow-buttons" = true, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

This forum software is not very good. There does not appear to be any ability to preview my post, or enter blocks of code like in other forums.

Here are my modified about:config prefs:

user_pref("browser.aboutConfig.showWarning", false);
user_pref("browser.backspace_action", 0);
user_pref("browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh", true);
user_pref("layout.css.scrollbar-width-thin.disabled", true);
user_pref("sidebar.visibility", "hide-sidebar");
user_pref("ui.clickToScroll", 0);
user_pref("ui.scrollToClick", 0);
user_pref("widget.gtk.overlay-scrollbars.enabled", false);
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.allow-buttons", true);
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.thumb-size", "20");
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override", 24);
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style", 4);

This is the contents of /~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini:

[Settings]
gtk-primary-button-warps-slider=false

This is the contents of /~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css:

scrollbar.vertical slider,
scrollbar.slider.vertical
{
    /* min-width: 20px; */
}
scrollbar.horizontal slider,
scrollbar.slider.horizontal
{
    /* min-height: 20px; */
}
scrollbar,
.scrollbar
{
    -GtkScrollbar-has-backward-stepper: TRUE;
    -GtkScrollbar-has-forward-stepper: TRUE;
}

scrollbar.vertical button.down {
  -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-down-symbolic");
}

scrollbar.vertical button.up {
  -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-up-symbolic");
}

scrollbar.horizontal button.down {
  -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-end-symbolic");
}

scrollbar.horizontal button.up {
  -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-start-symbolic");
}

scrollbar slider {
	min-width: 20px;
	min-height: 20px;}
