I get random crashes while streaming video (for example youtube). I am using a laptop with 2 GPUs (integrated AMD and dedicated Nvidia) and a secondary monitor. If the Firefox windows is on the laptop display I never get crashes but on the secondary display I get around 1-2/hour. Also, this only happens with hardware acceleration enabled in Firefox settings, if I deactivate it then the issue is gone. I think it runs on the AMD integrated graphics, based on what I see in task manager. I also have uBlock origin, haven't tried deactivating it yet. The crashses consist in a black screen from which I can only recorver by doing a hard reset.

Any suggestions on what to try?

I run Firefox under Linux Mint. Both are always update to the latest level. Over the past 1 to 1.5 years, across updates to both Firefox and Mint and multiple 'clean' installs of Firefox, I have experienced many crashes from Firefox per week. Sometimes there will be as many as 5 per day, but never less than one per day. During the same period I have also been running Vivaldi; it has not crashed once in that time. Now I have to do something. If there is a simple way to perform 'problem source identification', that is within my capability, I would be grateful for advice. If there is not, then clearly I will have to un-install Firefox.

As far as I can tell both of these browsers run with just 1 add-on/extension: uBlock Origin. Disabling this extension in Firefox does not stop Firefox from crashing.

1. Whenever I open Firefox for the first time since boot, it crashes, and I have to click on it a second time for a window to actually show up. Once it shows up, it's forgotten all about the previous session - none of my tabs re-open, the window opens up maximized.

2. Whenever I close the last open window, my previous tabs are completely forgotten. Checking task manager reveals that there are 10 or 11 Firefox processes that are still running.

  • I have a second Windows 11 device that DOESN'T exhibit any of these issues and works correctly. Closing Firefox does not leave any running processes around.
  • "Open previous windows and tabs" is enabled in options.
  • "Firefox will: Remember history" is set in the History options.
  • Both devices are running Firefox 137.0.2 64 bit.

A few days ago, trying to free up some memory and improve my computer's performance, I deleted the cache and tracking cookies from Firefox (using AVG TuneUp). Since then, I can only load a certain, variable number of tabs and/or pages without every new or reactivated tab or page claiming to have crashed (although about:crashes says that no reports have been submitted). Restoring those pages seems impossible without restarting Firefox or the whole computer. The problem persists in Troubleshoot mode, but as far as I can tell doesn't affect Chrome, although that used even more RAM. I've tried culling open tabs (of which I still probably have far too many, but it's never been an issue before), using the OneTab extension to reduce them to lists of URLs, disabling and re-enabling hardware acceleration, updating Firefox, checking for file corruption and RAM errors and even uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but nothing's worked so far. What might be going on, and what else can I try?

Hi,

I built a new PC a few months ago.

On this PC, Youtube tabs occasionally crash - the problem is intermittent, but common enough to be annoying. I never saw this on my old PC.

As far as I can tell, most of the software is the same as my old PC. Hardware is different if that matters (went from an Intel processor to an AMD, otherwise the component manufacturers are mostly consistent).

Still using Firefox on Windows 11. It's almost always up-to-date and is often up-to-date when the issue occurs. My only add-ons are Reddit Enhancement Suite and uBlock Origin, both of which I used on the old PC.

When I first built it, I did have an issue where I used RAM that was incompatible with my motherboard - that has been resolved and tabs are still crashing. I had found some indication that it could be related to faulty or incompatible hardware, but everything else is working now since fixing the RAM incompatibility.

Sometimes the tab crashes with an error message, sometimes it will simply freeze and I have to entirely close out the tab and re-navigate to the URL of the video I was just watching. The whole browser does not crash - I checked about:crashes and did not see any info that I can confirm coincides with a Youtube tab crash.

I have only seen this issue with Youtube, no other websites.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

As of today, when I launch firefox, all of my tabs (which have been working fine for the last several days) crash.

https://i.imgur.com/7vrmvam.png

By disabling all of my addons, I get this to go away - and by testing addons one at a time I am able to determine that: -Ublock Origin -Kaskpersky Password Manager Cause all of my tabs to crash.

Whereas: -Sponsorblock for Youtube -Youtube Nonstop Both crash if I visit youtube, but don't affect the browser otherwise.

So it seems like ALL addons are currently broken when they try to affect a tab?

After the update on April 8th, I couldnt start Firefoz. Im using Windows 11, and I kept getting the Bad Image Error. I tried doing a fresh install after seeing on here some other users solved the issue. I was able to launch Firefox, but now I cant open any tab without getting the"Gah, looks like your tab crashed" screen. Restoring tab doesnt work, no website works, and even just opening a new tab shows the crash message.

I have Firefox on two separate computers, a desktop running Win7Prof64bit and a laptop running Win10Pro 64bit. Both Firefox installations crash constantly, ie every 10 - 15 mins. They show the "Gah! Firefox just crashed. Please tell us what you were doing", and the box to return the data to Mozilla. With Restore This Tab at the bottom.

I always send you these reports but in about a year, the problem remains the same. Nothing has improved, I never hear back from you. Two different PCs, two different OSs, constant reports, no improvement. Why do I never hear from you? Why does this problem continue endlessly? I'm wasting my time sending you the reports. You take no notice. If you do, why does the problem continue and why do I never hear from you?
