FF sync stops gmail and wordsmith sync & notifications on HTC sensation

dubbles

When going through FFv12 options on the PC laptop last week I set up the pair a device and sync feature with my android phone. I expected or hoped to get my bookmarks tabs synced to the phone but it didn't happen. The FF app is not a patch on the Dolphin browser which I have learned to drive and like very much so I just put FF on the back burner as something to work on.

I noticed on the weekend away that my notifications for Wordsmith (much better than WWF) weren't happening and this morning found my emails were not syncing. Normally I can have the gmail app up on the phone and watch it echo deletions etc. done on the computer.

After going through all the sync settings on the phone I had to think so what's changed since it did work. The FF app of course. So I deleted, rebooted and it's all syncing properly again.

I'm using an HTC sensation. If anyone else could comment on the FF app causing a sync conflict on their phone I'd love to hear about it.

Geoff.

Hi,

Thanks for trying out Firefox for android. I'm sorry you had this problem. I've never heard of this happening before, so I suspect that rebooting your phone did the trick and that it had nothing to do with setting up bookmark, password, and history syncing with your desktop Firefox.

If you are willing to try it again and you have the same thing happen, we can file a bug about it to get engineering to look at it, since it shouldn't cause problems with any other sync services.

Thank you! Michelle

The reboot was not the fix as that had also been done two days before due to flat battery. I can assure you that removing FF fixed the sync problems.

Great, thanks for confirming. Can you tell me which version of Firefox for Mobile you were using when you had this problem?

Regards, Michelle

As I've deleted it I can only say it was the version installed from Google Play one week ago.

Ok, if it was the release version, that is v10.0.5, if it was Firefox Beta, it is v14. Do you happen to remember if it was called Firefox Beta or not? (They are both in google play).

Thanks!

I don't think it was beta. If I try again would you prefer that I install the release or beta version. If I set up sync should I get access to my bookmarks TABS, not the drop down list. I love FF on my PC but two attempts at the Android app have seen my go back to Dolphin.

Hi,

If you would be willing to try the Firefox beta, I'd really appreciate it. When you sync you should get bookmarks, tabs, history and passwords from your desktop firefox (I'm not sure if that is what you were asking). There is a big 'Sync your data' button on the home screen when you first launch it. Thanks again for reporting this and let me know how it goes.

Best, Michelle

I'm going around in circles this time. There is no clear instruction on when to pair, when to sign in, both devices want a recovery number I can't find, FF pc says go to sync/manage account which doesn't exist, the 12c phone pairing code changes every time I go into the screen, in pc pair a device I get a code to put in the phone, on the phone add firefox sync account I get a code to put in the computer.......... this is not working for me, Where can I find a concise set of installation instructions?

Hi,

Sorry, this process can be confusing if you've sync'd a device before, thanks for your patience. Here is the help article for setup:

How do I set up Sync on my computer?

Let me know if this still makes no sense.

Thanks, Michelle
