I'm trying to create a DOS batch file to clear the current profile's cache (web site data only, not cookies). I have it working fine using a hard-coded path of the existing profile (I only have one profile), but I'd like it to remain viable in case a newer profile is created for whatever reason. Is there a way to retrieve the path into a variable?

Thank you!

There should be an option to permanently delete specific dates (all bookmarks associated with a specific date) from the list of dates under the "restore bookmarks" option. I want to get rid of the bookmarks associated with several dates, but there is no way to do this unless I can delete the date (or dates) from the list.Otherwise, I cannot delete the objectionable bookmarks associated with those dates. Why not include a delete option when selecting a specific date? Firefox version 92.0.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox (89.0) on both of my Windows 7 computers as well as on my iPhone. I have this really annoying glitch where I'll bookmark a page, and Firefox will occasionally duplicate that bookmark hundreds of times. I've gone in and deleted the duplicates, but then the problem re-occurs, so I'm trying to figure out how to finally fix this! I've already spent several hours looking through your help forums and trying to fix it, but nothing seems to work. Here's what I've done:

I turned off sync on all my devices. I also noticed that I had the iCloud synch extension on one of my computers, so I removed that, since I read that might cause some issues. Then I went and cleaned up the bookmarks on one of my computers, deleting all the duplicate entries, and I exported an HTML version of my bookmarks to my computer and also created a backup .json file. I refreshed Firefox on that computer. And I changed my sync password, since I read somewhere that that would supposedly force my old data to be deleted from Firefox's server.

Then I turned sync back on on that one computer, hoping that the latest version of my bookmarks that were on that computer would now update to Firefox's server. But instead of replacing the old bookmarks file in the cloud, it simply added back the old duplicate bookmarks to my computer (which apparently never got deleted from Firefox servers, despite the password change). Super frustrating. Isn't there a way to force a one-way sync, so the version of the bookmarks file that I have locally -- which has the latest changes -- takes priority??

I then tried going to "Import bookmarks from HTML," hoping that the version I had previously saved would replace this bad, outdated version I had downloaded from the server, but that didn't seem to do anything (I guess import only adds new bookmarks but doesn't delete existing bookmarks?). Could I import the json file instead? If so, how do I do that? I've considered deleting all my bookmarks and then importing the html file again to see if that fixes it, but it looks like the html file doesn't include the bookmarks on my toolbar. Is that correct? If so, I don't want to lose them.

Not sure what this is so glitchy and so difficult to fix. Can someone please help?

In the last 2 weeks I have had issues with 3 different websites. In all 3 cases I was filling in an online form. In the first 2 I filled the form in and clicked submit and was ejected. In today's case I could see that 2 lines of text were overlapped. I could find no way to click the underlying yes/no circles. I have attached a screenshot of what I get. After several attempts with suggestions from support, I tried Microsoft Edge and had no issues. Therefore, I concluded that the fault was not in the websites. I have tried changing font size with no improvement. Help!!

Hello Everyone - Today the background colour of both tabs bar and search bar changed to a wishy-washy pale blue which makes it much harder to read anything there. I am not aware that I have changed any setting myself. And I dont recall any FF update yesterday or today... I have looked through all the FF "settings" options and found nothing relevant there. Is there maybe an option buried somewhere to change the background colour? Oh, and I am not a geek or a nerd, so cannot understand any nitty-gritty stuff! Thank you for your time.

Creating separate Firefox profiles on different user accounts

Hello,

I am wondering it this is possible - I have a Windows 10 laptop that needs to be upgraded to V202H and I am told that the upgrade will probably delete all of my current programs and settings - including my Firefox install and all bookmarks. To help recover from that, I wanted to know if it would be possible to set up an alternate Firefox in a not often used local account on my Windows 7 laptop and then sync the two so that after the upgrade, I can download Firefox again onto the Win 10 laptop and then sync it back so that I can get all of my bookmarks and settings for FF back onto the Win 10 laptop.

I don't want to sync it with the Firefox that I use in my regular Win 7 user account since that has a separate set of bookmarks and settings that I wouldn't want to change. I just wanted a way to "hold" all of the Win 10 Firefox stuff and "reinstall" it, and had thought that sync might be a way to do that.

If that won't work, is there a way to transfer the entire FF profile over to a new install on that laptop once it is upgraded?

Thanks for any help! Much appreciated!

Hi,

Another bad change for me after last update. When I click on the NEW Tab I don't see the icons or tiles of my most used websites anymore . Only the top search bar and a down menu with the 10 most used websites. Where did the tiles go?

The article Customize your New Tab page to hide or display content doesn't work . I cannot get into settings to change anything. Is there another solution???? I would like my tiles back.

Thank you,

Amy

For ages I've had it set up that when I open a new tab, I get a bunch of my frequently visited sites and a search bar I have set up to do searches on Google. But a recent update messed this up. If I try typing in a search, it moves over to the search bar. Now, for me, searching from the address bar is ABSOLUTELY UNEXCEPTABLE. I never do searches from the address bar, it is for ADDRESSES and nothing else. I want it to be clear that if I enter something there, it's an address, to attempt to go to this address (I've had a few times where Firefox made this mistake, tried searching for something entered as an address). I just looked up how to disable the search in about:config, great. But this behaviour continues! STILL if I try entering text in the search bar it moves to the address bar anyway!

Is there any way to stop Firefox from moving my cursor? To accept text in the bar in the page? It didn't used to work this way, as recently as a few weeks ago. Because of this idiocy I've had to enable the separate search bar, but I still want to be able to search in the page.

What I want to accomplish is when I open Firefox I want the cursor in the Search Text Box and I want to search from that little text box If I use this link in Pocket https://start.duckduckgo.com/ I get the behavior I want My view of using this procedure is Pocket is just a shortcut bar and is a little like the Bull Current OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit very locked down Firefox ver 96.0 I would also like to know how to remove my login information after my question is answered

I asked this question some time back here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1362859 I'm asking again to reframe the question. The problem is - if my experience is a guide to the rest of the world - VTT files (which are used to caption HTML video) are no longer read/loaded by Firefox when it is viewing the HTML file locally (i.e. file://). On the web they are loaded as expected. Presumably there's a security setting somewhere in Firefox that now refuses to load the VTTs locally. Maybe under Help > More troubleshooting information there is a setting to change to fix that?

Trying to use the seach box in the centre of the Firefox homepage (google search engine) .. everything I type goes up to the address bar . Tried changing settings - I see there's a search box option in the 'tool bar' which looks to be up at the side of the address bar. cant understand why we need another one as well as the one in the centre.

Also by turning off suggestions and not choosing the 'search box option in the 'tool bar' , the address bar is now only accepting URLs so searching isnt working.

So ..1. Is the search box in the centre no use?

        2. Does search work with all suggestions turned off?
