Last night I decided to check the monthly weather forecast just before going to bed. I googled, "weather" then clicked through to a website before realizing it wasn't the one I meant to click. I backed out and clicked another link further down the list. I thought to myself, "That's going to screw me up in future because the wrong website will be a visited link and I'll mistake it for my preferred site."

I'm a long-time Firefox user and upgraded to Quantum when it first came out. I had made a cursory inspection of some of the new features at that time, and remembered the little counter-clockwise arrow in the toolbar was supposed to be a shortcut for deleting a set time frame of browsing history. Remembering this, I clicked it and a little menu popped up with options for how much history to forget. I clicked the option to forget 5 minutes.

I'd had multiple windows with multiple tabs open and they all disappeared instantly. I don't know if the browser crashed or simply intended to restart itself, but when it reopened there was only one window with no tabs.

I quickly hit the three bar menu button in the top-right and navigated to Library > History > Recently Closed Windows. Both this menu and Recently Closed Tabs were entirely empty.

My secondary Windows were of secondary importance, but my first and primary window had a large number of pinned and ordinary tabs that I did not want to lose. Tabs that I have been saving for months - some more than a year. Many that I migrated from Firefox I to Quantum. In the past, they have always been recoverable through the History. Now they seem to have been erased without a trace because I clicked, "Forget 5 minutes" from the toolbar.

I tried using Window's System Restore to reset my computer to a restore point from yesterday, but this had no effect on my Firefox session. Is there any way to reverse this and recover the session I've been using daily since before Quantum had been released? Is it anywhere?

When does FF save my Windows and Tabs Configuration?

I am using FF 31.0 on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. I have a number of FF windows open, one for each project on which I am working. There are some tabs in wndows that I do not want any more. So I either close those tabs or go to other URLs in those tabs. I then cleanly exit FF. But when FF is restarted, the tabs that I had closed or changed URLs re-appear, as if I had done nothing to delete or change them. I assumed that FF, when it exited cleanly, would save all of my current windows and tabs settings, and when I "restored my previous session", I would get the same windows and tabs that I had when I cleanly shutdown. But this is not the case. How do I tell FF to save my current window and tab settings? Thanks.

New tabs are preserved but existing tabs are not opening the URL they were last closed at.

For example, If I am on page 1 of a forum/comic on a tab and I move to page 3 and then close the browser. When I open it is at page 1 again. If I then press next to page 7 as the forum/comic has moved on, read the latest and then maybe close the browser a day later, on re-opening it will open to either 1 or 3.

This is across 3 firefox installations, ON 3 PCs.

I just noticed that Open Tabs were set to sync but I actually have no tab crossover between the browsers and they don't restore unless you choose to being them over so each browser with a particular tab open should update that one on re-open, not take it from an instance that does not have that tab open.

Anyway, it is really starting to pee me of as when I re-open my home instance it is not opening Cyanide and Happiness about 30-40 commics behind the last one read.

It all worked perfectly before Quantum and none of my settings have changed.

Cheers,

Rob.

I've tried about:config and other posted solutions. They don't work with my Firefox Quantum that I just upgraded to (without any proper support or notice from Mozilla about changes involved with Quantum). I keep getting messages saying the links to set tab width don't work with Firefox Quantum, and it won't let me click them. I'm using Windows 8.1

It used to be stored under sessionstore.jsonlz4. I use to copy that single file as a backup when it doesn't restore properly or I want to clear all data. I would paste that in to my profile and it would restore my previous tabs and windows.

On firefox 62, It doesn't exist. Which file do I need to copy to backup my tabs and windows?

Window 7 64 bit Thank you.

So I updated Firefox a couple days ago. Whenever I open a new tab it take me to this Bing search thing. I Googled how others were fixing this and the about:config thing isn't working. I go to edit the site that will come up I type in about:blank or Google.com and it just stays the Bing search thing.

Any help would be wonderful since I just want to get rid of the new tab that keeps coming up each time >_<

i am used to working with a lot of tabs open and keeping some important from each time I go online. A while ago, there was a crash on my mozilla, and when I reentered it all my tabs were here, but when I clicked on them they didn't work, just remained blank. Then I tried the solutions I found on your website for restoring tabs after a crash, but none of them worked, so I had to come here to write this as it is really important for me to restore those tabs (the similar problem has already happened to me, and I couldn't restore them either so I had to start anew, but now I have to report the problem to avoid it happening in the future). I'm aware that everybody makes mistakes in programming so I don't judge you, only I hope you'll correct those mistakes and make firefox even better so me and others will keep using it. :)

For some reason it updated without asking/notifying me about it. Then after it restarted it reset EVERYTHING. I don't see the Apps anymore, the shortcuts on toolbar are gone/back to defult items & I can't restore any of the past backedup sessions from the past week! I had at least 150+ tabs in 4 windows. And I already tried the "History> Closed tabs"restore thing. It only restores the LAST session, since I've been trying to fix/figure this out for at least 12 hours & nothing has restored the tabs from about 13 hours ago. Note: My Bookmarks & History (I've previously set to saved before the sessions I've had to restart during) are fine, it's only the many tabs that I can't restore is my sudden problem.

How do I reopen a closed window that got erased in Firefox?

so after the new firefox update all of my settings were changed back to default, and I often use alot of different windows and tabs and leave them open, and then some times close them to speed things up and so the computer does not crash or over heat do to running multiple windows at once, then if i need to find a tab from another window i closed, i will go into the history panel and reopen that closed window that contained the tab or set of tabs.

I had my firefox set so it would hold on to the last 10 or so closed windows, but after the update it got set back to default so it only saved the last 3, and last night (7/1/19) it erased one of my closed windows (i had 4 windows open and then closed one) after i closed another window and then that window took the place of it and the other was just erased. i looked around and could not find an answer to solve this issue. i found one question that was similar and they were told to use

'jeffersonscher'

i used that with all of my different json files and json update files and all the tabs were and sessions were showing up but i could not find any of the tabs from that one window that was closed and erased

is there a way to reopen or find that closed window that got erased?

Hi, after updating opening page in new tab via right click gives me blank page. Oh and apparently it's also happened when I entering site via address bar, but clicking a link loads the page normally.

The blank page usually last only around a mere 0.5 second to the dreaded 2 seconds, and after that the page will kind of reloading itself (or maybe start connecting?) and start loading normally. The thing is in some case—around one in twelve—the page stuck at that blank page, and I have to reload the page to fix it.

I downloaded the latest version of Firefox and now I can't right click the mouse on a url and "open in new tab". I would not care to refresh Firefox and loose EVERYTHING I have set up with the browser. I DON"T have the issue when using Chrome. My home page is myyahoo.com and I have a ton of links which do not open in new tab. The ONLY one that does work is opening up mail with the right click and Yahoo mail opens in a new tab. Please advise how to fix this terribly annoying issue with Firefox. BTW, open in new window does work. Thank You.

I am a user that opens a lot of tabs at a time from any given page, and firefox will attempt to load them all at the same time. This chokes out my bandwidth or will give server side errors causing problems for both firefox, my router and even the visited websites.

I would like to see an about:config option that would allow a variable option to open the tabs up but keep them unloaded until n-tabs prior have finished being loaded.

This feature will greatly balance the network load, and improve firefox's performance.

Thank you.

P.S. An example of this can be found at the LONG outdated firefox addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/load-tabs-progressively/
