Since the last Firefox update, I've noticed an issue whenever I launch the browser. I have it set up so that I have multiple tabs open, and it's set up so that when Firefox starts up, it opens all of the previous tabs and starts me on the tab I was on when I closed the browser previously.

Now whenever I start Firefox, it opens to the last tab I was on, but said tab opens on my current homepage instead of the website that tab was on previously. I experimented by changing my homepage to "Youtube.com", picked a different open tab, closed Firefox and opened it again and sure enough, the tab was now on the Youtube page instead of what it had been previously.

Is this just a bug of the current Firefox version, or is there something in settings I can do to fix this?

Every time I open Firefox, my open windows open, as they should, except the front tabs in as many as half of windows get stuck trying to open! The screen is blank, and you can see the spinning wheel in the tab window above the toolbar. Usually, if I click to stop it, then hit the refresh button, it will finally load the tab. Why can't they all just load, for while they don't, FF will still run up nearly all my RAM, maybe trying to load takes more juice. I don't know, but it's not supposed to be doing this. Opening tabs if a pretty fundamental function of any browser...

How to Open External Links without Exiting Firefox? How to open without Profile Manager Opening?

When I try to open a link from an external software, in my case mostly discord, that which I click on, I get the profile manager opened, ask for which profile I should open from. If I already have the Firefox window for that profile open, I have to close the whole window and then it opens with all the tabs with a tab for the link I clicked on.

I would like to open tabs like how Chrome does, not asking for profile (yes, I know, I can just make things open on only one profile but I want to choose which one I want it to every single time without manager) and instead opens up from the profile window that I just had on.

I would like to open external links on an existing window and not close to open it.

So, ultimately, make my Firefox open link from the latest profile window I was on, and it does not require to close an existing window to open the link.

It is ABSURD https://bigthink.com/neuropsych/tab-overload/

Why browsers UI didn't change from 1999, when we know it causes tab overload, brain has to constantly filter everything it sees and how we engage with information is cruical in this age. All we get after 24 years are 4 categories to group tabs. I had even 3000 tabs peaking, average 1000+ reading philosophy. Einstein said: "human stupidity is infinite"...

Bookmarks are atrocious, you cannot even scroll panel with mouse holding bar, cannot cltr+f for existing folders, bookmark manager doesn't find existing folders, it sorts folders with bookmarks together contained under a folder... Doesn't have even tags, with thousands of bookmarks and folders, it would take 10 minutes to find fitting folder... I didn't also find any good 3rd party solutions really...

There are tab manager addons, but if you have again a lot of different tabs, it won't help you, it is useful for short-term workloads, but then you have nothing to store things in more permanent way. Also making notes all the time with reading would cost too energy especially if you need to research many things together... There is prototype of AI that saves all things based how you hover cursor over text etc. It would be great if it supported AI tracking and then highlights important info and makes notes, it is not publicly available yet in some solution...

Note taking programs suffer from same issues, missing core features, chat with AI is still very rudimentary and won't help you bring some small notes or piece of info you read 2 years ago, or something specific on-demand... When note taking program cannot even collapse notebooks on main view and you have seeing like 100ths different entries, or doesn't show available tags and selecte multiple of them quickly together under each notebook...

bottom line: there is no tab management really and all addons are really basic and doesn't support long-term intelligent storage for a lots of tabs so you find what you look for later, bookmarks are unuseable after certain amount (again no good third party solutions i saw...). Note taking programs all suffer from same issues, missing core features, again it is impossible to navigate any else way except using tags, but then if you have many then what, you cannot use tags to find thing nested under 20 other things, some specific bit of info, it will still be vehement to sort, if you cannot use multiple things together like jump to notebook and then see all tags what are there available, which would work better, you cannot remember all tags in each notebook you have... All solutions that exist missing core features and are overly simplistic and vehement... This gave me executive dysfunctions...

And if i give feedback to devs of absolutely logical core things, or what could be better and is missing and what stems from purpose and function and is self-evident: they tell me i am brilliant, it is ABSURD... Don't know what to say... 2023 there is still not way to efficiently make notes, capture knowledge... Even my former 160IQ friend said he had millions of files on disk basically has no idea where anything is... Learns everything from memory as he reads it before he goes to next things... It is really dumb in information age, so much interesting things from what we read is permanently lost, there is no really good way to capture info and link it and bring it easily later... Just diet, or healthy lifestyle can be complex and many different areas that are related and are under 20 other things... IT is impossible to find something later... It is absurdly bad how devs don't realize these things and normal ppl tell you you are crazy if you have over 10 tabs, while it was shown today work can generate easily over 100 tabs and it is important to manage information well... Yet there are no solutions, would have to hire programmer for every small thing i notice somewhere is missing, or is vehement useless basically...

If I right click a folder of bookmarks and select "Open All Bookmarks", the focused tab switches to the first bookmark in that folder, despite the fact that I do not have the following General preference item: "When you open a link, image or media in a new tab, switch to it immediately". While that item doesn't specifically describe the "Open All Bookmarks" situation, it's kind of the same idea. I have groups of bookmarks that I often visit, and I don't my focused tab switched every time request one.

Up until Firefox 116, Reopen Closed Tab (Ctrl+Shift+T) would reopen closed tabs, and Reopen Closed Window (Ctrl+Shift+N) would reopen closed windows. There was a clear bifurcation, so I could freely close windows and not worry about it polluting my tab history in another window.

The latest change has thrown out that advantage, and now Reopen Closed Tab reopens both tabs and windows, while Reopen Closed Window still just reopens windows. This makes the later essentially useless and the former much more difficult to use for me.

I assume this was done to just continue copying Chrome in all respects since that's how it handles it, but the changelog just vaguely states, "This change is in anticipation of upcoming changes to recently closed tabs."

Does anyone know if there's a setting to separate the two functions again?

Hi

Trying to make sync work the way I want. Initial question:

I've synced tabs between Windows desktop and Android. Now I would like to bookmark all those tabs in the desktop browser, without opening them first. I've found out how to view them in the side bar, but I see no option to bookmark all tabs.

It would be nice to have synced Tabs in the Library window and Options panel.

Recently the V-like icon/button appeared at the right-hand end of the top line of my Firefox windows. This Tab Search could be invaluable to some, but I have no need for it. If I start to get too many tabs I just use another window. However, I click on it constantly when I intend to minimize the window. I have been clicking on the - icon/button in EVERY WINDOWS APPLICATION since Windows began, and as it has ALWAYS been the LEFT-MOST item in the UPPER RIGHT CORNER I haven't had to think about it in decades. But now it isn't the left-most, that is now tab search.

Please, please, PLEASE provide a configuration option to remove Tab Search from the top line.

Thanks!

Last October my sessions were gone after a Firefox Update. I asked for help here: https://support.mozilla.org/sv/questions/1394685 and eventually got kind help from @cor-el (that unfortunately wasn't skilled enough to understand) and from @RayGibson57. But by then, my life was in a flurry and I didn't have time to try the advice. And so, after a while I had, with some effort, gathered many of the old tabs back again, and built up new sessions.

This Monday I was trying to internet while having high fever (something people should never do :o ). I left three blank windows open when I shut down the computer, and next morning those three were the only ones Firefox wanted to remember.

(I still find this change frustrating, bordering on infuriating: what happened to "Choose how many old sessions you want Firefox to remember", I think the maximum was ten?)

Now the fevers left and I went to those answers to try. That Q/A was archived though, so I'm starting again here, from as far as I got following King Rays instructions. They were:

  1. Open the application menu (3 horizontal lines) next to the address bar.
  2. Click on Help -> More troubleshooting information.
  3. With that page open, find Profile Folder and click on Open Folder. That's how you get to the folder with backup files in it.
  4. Set computer up to see all the extensions & system files. By default, the extensions don't show up (.jsonlz4 is an extension).
  5. I found an older file in that sessionstore-backups folder and copied it one level back to the main profile folder.
  6. Renamed the sessionstore.jsonlz4 to sessionstore.jsonlz4.old and the file I copied, I renamed to sessionstore.jsonlz4.
  7. Opened Firefox and that missing window was in the history so I could open it.
  8. Don't make any typos here, because Firefox won't find the files it needs to open.

I got as far as finding the Profile folder and the sessionstore-backups folder.

But I cant find any jsonlz4 file called "sessionstore". Only a "sessionsCheckpoints" and that one is a json file, and the date modified is today.

See screenshots please!

Can anyone talk me trough this like Im a grandmother from Sweden with extremely limited coding & tech skills (which is what I am)?

Hello! Since updating to the last version (119.0.1), Firefox started keeping my open tabs between sessions. This is a behavior I don't want, and the only solution that I found told me to enable "clear history on close", however that is also not ideal, because I don't want to clear my history. The "Open previous windows and tabs" setting is off and my homepage is set to Firefox Default. I don't know where else to look for such a setting, except in the about:config, but even there I'm not sure which one is causing the issue. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I recently sent a lot of tabs from my phone to my computer. However, when I started Firefox on my computer, since Firefox tried to load the content of all sent tabs immediately instead loading them lazily (which I think probably should be the default behavior), it took a very long time for Firefox to display even the tab that was currently selected, and I therefore decided to kill Firefox and reopen it, in the hope that all new tabs would load lazily. Instead, when I reopened Firefox, none of the new tabs where there anymore; it was as if they had never been sent. I would like to get them back, but I have no idea how to. Does anyone know if that is possible and, if so, how?
