I was using Firefox 52.0.2esr and it was working fine. I got a Microsoft Update and after that it would not open after being launched. I am using Chrome browser and have troubleshooted renaming profiles which did not work. I have uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled ver 49.0.1 and I still have the problem. I have run my Virus, Malware, and Spyware and it is clean. Firefox shows in Task Manager as running but the window never opens. I have killed the process subsequently to doing everything I have said above. Please help. I do not like using Chrome but it's the only other internet browser that is working on my XP PC.

I recently updated to Firefox 15.0.1, and I'm having a lot of trouble with it constantly freezing. This doesn't happen on any one website and is very random in occurrence. I have already tried running in safe mode and updated flash, and I'm still having the problem. After a few seconds, it may start responding again however, most of the time it continues to hang. In order to close Firefox when this happens, I have to open task manager and end the process because nothing in the browser responds. This has become very annoying, and I would appreciate any help I can get to solve the issue. Thanks!

UPDATE: I've noticed that the freezing seems to happen every time I check my email (Yahoo & Gmail), and when I'm on Pandora. It still occurs randomly at other times, but I noticed it's very consistent with these sites.

I have been using Firefox as my default browser for years. However, beginning with FF11 and continuing with FF12, it has become so slow to load web pages that it has become virtually unusable. IE, Opera and Chrome are all must faster. If anyone knows a fix, I'd love to hear about it.

I live in rural Texas and admittedly my ISP isn't the fastest "high speed" in the world - 1.5-2.0mbps, but other browsers can handle this OK. Not Firefox.

I've tried disabling ALL add-on's and extensions. I've taken FF down to bare bones - no tabs, no whistles or bells - and still it's painfully slow. I ever replaced my router - no help. I've tried clearing the cache, adjusting settings, even run "Speed Up My Firefox" software. Nothing seems to help.

This is clearly a Firefox issue. I would love to go back to Firefox, but I just don't have the patience to wait while it takes its own good time loading web pages.

Any ideas?

Tom

Hi friendly people Title explains my current problem. Deleting that search engine is no use, it resets back on Firefox relaunch!

"MalwareBytes" , "Microsoft Security Essentials" and "Zemana AntiMalware" didn't help. Last one finds the malware but is not powerful enough to delete it!

Then I launched regedit and searched for "yahoo". I found some results but according to the name of above folder, I am not sure whether to delete those keys or what!!! You can read name of that folder from below bar.

Please help me get rid of this headache.

Thanks in advance.

Was forced to update to 48. Even tho I had my preferences set to NOT dowload updates, it did it any way.  :-((

Now, the font is WAY TOO SMALL. There are more issues, but I'll just focus on the font shrinkage.

I had zoom in as much as 133% and more in order to be able to read the font on my 13" macbook. And I'm not THAT visually impaired! I have had to do it on every tab. I can't adjust it in preferences because the "ok" button is missing!!! (see screen shot attached)

My previous font sizer add-on is no longer compatible. And Theme Font Size Changer warns mac users that it STILL has a bug, so I can't use that.

Does anyone know of an add-on that works in macs that adjusts the font size in the tab titles AND on the website pages so I don't have to keep increasing font size every time I open the browser and/or a new tab?

Thank you.

I have tried many of the method suggested by user but AVG Secure Search is unaffected or goes away but keeps coming back.

I don't understand how it only seems to affect people running Firefox and why Firefox seems to rely completely on forums and suggestions by users as to how to fix it. Why is there not an official Firefox answer to this problem that seems to be a problem for a very large number of Firefox users?

It seems that Firefox frequently loses window focus when I open a new page. It may be a bookmark, a link opened into a new tab via CTRL+Left-Click, or whatever. The following scenario always results in the window losing focus (for me).

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Open this link and bookmark it.
  3. Close and reopen Firefox.
  4. Open the page just bookmarked using the bookmark list and don't touch the window.

I read this page daily, so when I start Firefox and open the page, I have to click in it so as to scroll, etc..

I have Firefox 56 and Windows 7. My computer froze while Firefox and the Library were open and I had to force restart. My browsing history and bookmarks were completely deleted. I restored my bookmarks from a backup, but that didn't restore my browsing history. That history is EXTREMELY important -- I can't bookmark every website I visit, so I need history to return to a site I visited before.

A few days ago I made a copy of my entire Firefox folder from C:/Users/Ellen/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla. Where in that do I find my browsing history and where do I copy them to? I already tried copying the places.sqlite and prefs.js files from the copy into my actual profile but that didn't restore anything that I can see.

At the same time as making that copy, I installed FF56 to replace FF57, so I might have a restore point from then.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and Firefox is my browser. All of a sudden I can not play videos at places like Democracy Now and many other web sites (E.G. Malcolm Gladwell) but most of Youtube is okay - except sometimes. I thought this may have been due adGuard but disengaging it or starting FF clean with no ad ons has no effect.

I was just informed by Costco Concierge Services that the reason is that both FireFox and Google Chrome have decided to “no longer support” certain add ons or plug ins (what is the difference if any between these tech terms of art?) and therefore if I can not play a video I will have to use Internet Explorer. Discovering what videos I can or can not use is a hit an miss case by case basis.

So, first is this true? I can not imagine Firefox or Google Chrome making a change that would actually require its users of many years to bump their prime product and, instead, turn to its prime competitors. That seems like suicidal sabotage. We are just every day end-users and not software engineers and the explanations I find are absolutely incomprehensible technobabble.

In plain English what is the real problem? What is the fix? And has Firefox actually decided to make us dump Firefox and turn to its competitor just to watch certain videos? Has Democracy Now decided to continue using a video format that is no longer supported by FF?

The attached pic is just and example. DN uses jW player but I find this problem at other web sites too.

Having two tabs open, memory rises slowlyall by itself, to where the main process is using almost 2.2GB and the plugin containers are taking up about another 1.2GB by themselves.
