Previously I used: browser.urlbar.maxRichResults, but that doesn't seem to do anything after this recent update. I have to visit a lot of different sites for my job and a longer list in the address bar drop down makes that happen very quickly. Being limited to only 7 is going to severely cut down on my efficiency.

Since an update about two weeks ago, every time I press alt-s the search/address bar is expanded. This is annoying, because we use this key combination to save forms of a web-application (our ERP). I didn't find an option to disable this behaviour. A web-search did not help. I found some suggestions, but none of them worked (eg. old discussions here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=446830 or here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343909)

Any Ideas?

Only one Browser has problems with HD videos (1080p + above) on youtube: Firefox in the most current version.

I have tested so far only the one current latest version of the ESR branch (78.3.x). But as visible from thousands of articles to this very particular problem (when i search the community help database for "Youtube videos stutter" i get multiple thousands of entries - i read only a handful of them to realize that they are all "closed" and not a single one "solved"), this problem persists since multiple years now.

I have a very old PC by my side with a very old Firefox (benchmark wise slower than my current PC by a factor of at least 3) ESR 52.9, which is able to play the same videos in the same HD resolution without the slightest stutter.

The drivers on that old system are - naturally - outdated by half a decade. THAT OLD OUTDATED system with THAT OLD OUTDATED Firefox is well able to play even multiple HD videos side by side. With-OUT any stutter.

Thus, you can easily deduce by logical reasoning that nighter any outdating of drivers whatsoever nor any outdating of anything else on the system, be it hardware wise or software wise, CAN AT ALL be the culprit of that stuttering.

While the former holds true, what you actually find in the communities help are completely useless and irrational tips of "upgrading the browser to the last version", "upgrading drivers" or "reinstalling any software" or the like.

Let me be clear: Nothing of the latter will ever help in overcoming the stuttering of current firefoxes at all. The only one measure that will help here is to revise the code that is underlying the video pipe.

Since the stuttering regularly only begins after about one to two minutes into the videos, it is strongly suggestive that something in the memory management - probably in the way resources becoming freed after use - is accumulating over time until the stuttering begins. Badly managed garbage collection, perhaps?

It used to be that you could drop dictionaries in $INSTALLDIR/dictionaries and they would be used. As of Firefox 62, Mozilla started putting the default dictionary in omni.ja and sometime later started ignoring the $INSTALLDIR/dictionaries directory.

But, supposedly, we can still point to external dictionaries by either setting the $DICPATH environment variable to point to a directory that contains a hunspell dictionary (en-US.aff en-US.dic) set and it would be seen and used by Firefox. OR we can set the spellchecker.dictionary_path preference.

I am running vanilla Firefox 78.3.0 ESR under Linux and neither of the above options is working (also not working in Firefox 68ESR). I have a customized medical dictionary that I have used for many years under older versions of Firefox that I now cannot use. I am hoping someone might have some idea what is going on. Is this option now broken? And I using it wrong?

$ ls /opt/dictionary en-US.aff en-US.dic $ export DICPATH="/opt/dictionary" $ firefox

I then check for a word that I know is only in the /opt/dictionary file (in this case, "algin") and it is still showing it as misspelled, so it is not using the external dictionary I defined. I tried also adding export DICTIONARY="en-US" before launching and that didn't help.

Hi hello, I have an issue which might be a bug.

I already have 1 Firefox window open. Firefox account is logged on, with sync enabled. I can access my synced bookmarks and extensions are available as usual.

Now, if I open 2nd Firefox window via these methods: 1) right click at Firefox program at taskbar and click 'Open New Window' 2) at other program (e.g. MS Outlook), I clicked the URL in an email and it will open new Firefox window

The issue is, the 2nd, newly opened, Firefox window are not logged in with Firefox account. My synced extensions and bookmarks are not available.

This issue does not occur if I open 2nd Firefox window from within Firefox itself, like clicking the burger menu (3 horizontal lines at top right) and click 'New Window'. That's why I believe this is a bug.

Hope anyone can help.

Is there a way to change the speed unit used by Firefox when downloading?

Currently, when I download a file, the progress is shown in kilobytes per second. I would like to have that shown as megabits per second, so I can stop wasting time looking up a speed conversion calculator and finding out how the download is doing as compared to what my ISP says my connection is worth. Or, to compare the download speed to any of the speed tests I have done

As you can see from the attached screenshot (it's amusing that the screenshot utility was captured in it), Firefox ESR has an enlarged URL textfield. It recently appeared on Debian-based systems, along with the more annoying bug solved by cor-el in my previous post. It appears when Firefox ESR is first started and on new tabs. I'm sure this is another about:config solution, but I have no idea what to search on.

Ever since I installed the latest Firefox version, I have not been able to use my auto hot keys. I've tried changing the script, etc.. (i'm not tech savvy but had help); and so when using a auto hot key; it'll work one, maybe two times; and then stop. Hoping someone can help me with a solution or guide me in the right direction on how to fix that, as I use a LOT of hot keys for my work.

In any other browser these hot keys work perfectly!!

So frustrating spent 2 days on this practically; thank you for ANY info anyone can provide.
