When clicking on a link in MS Office 2007 components such as Excel, FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command is appended to the URL causing the search to 404.

I am using Windows 8 on a Sony Vaio, and version 27.0.1 of firefox. Firefox is up to date, and is my default browser.

Web research shows this is a recurring problem with issues dating back to very early versions. This began happening after my last update to the current version

I'm using Firefox 27 on Windows 7 and--all of a sudden, it seems--JavaScript has totally stopped working for websites on localhost. I've tried disabling my add-ons, restarting Firefox, clearing my cache, testing with the simplest script (basically just an alert() prompt that works fine in other browsers) but nothing. I load the page and nothing happens. Firebug (when I have it enabled) doesn't even detect any scripts in my localhost pages! The same pages work fine if they're hosted somewhere else, though. Help?

Crashes out when opening any Vine. whether its embedded or on a fresh page. I don't have any malware, i scanned last week with MBAM and the crash was happening then. It does it in FF safe mode too. No bitguard or any pup. plugins up to date. FF up to date, Windows 8.1 fully up to date. GPU drivers up to date. No security software whatsoever. I work in IT so I'm just very careful what I click on.

This didn't happen before, only in the last 3 days. Didn't install anything on PC other than Itunes and possibly - automatic updates on Win 7.

The ONLY way to open saved html file is by right-click: Open With -> Choose Default Program -> Firefox.

It doesn't open the file on double click, or on right click: Open With -> Firefox, or right click: Open With -> Choose Default Program -> IE, in all 3 cases it goes to homepage.

There was adware or malware Rollup File Opener that I uninstalled but still see some remains in Troubleshooter.

Has anyone come across this: when I click on some links (not all) or even type an address directly into the address bar, instead of loading that address the domain is replaced by facebook.com but the rest remains as it should be - so if course the page doesn't load.

For example, if I try to go to https://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/mar/08/pharrell-williams-interview-daft-punk, instead it tries to load https://www.facebook.com/music/2014/mar/08/pharrell-williams-interview-daft-punk (sorry for the very specific weblink, this is just the most recent time I have noticied this happening!).

I suspect there might be some malware or similar on my laptop, but have run a full scan and it didn't pick anything up...

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

I know that "new private window" is working on my computer because if I go to History it is blank, there are no sites listed after going to different web sites. So I can always check it that way but I was wondering if the page I am on would give me some indication ( perhaps a bolt of lightening or a Hi Zeus). If I am on a private page or a page that is not private, the Mozilla icon is on the upper left corner and nothing else I have searched for the answer for hours but can't find anything on it. I have Firefox version 27.0.1. I have seen different indicators on other depictions of what a private page should look like, however I do not have any indicators. Thanks hjr.

Recently, Firefox started opening up an Explorer window every time I download a file. It's Better Explorer, actually, since I use that to replace the Microsoft version. The folder that opens is the target destination. So it creates multiple tabs, but I expect that it would just open up multiple instances of Windows Explorer if that's what I used.

So if I download a dozen images, I get a dozen tabs opened. This doesn't happen with IE or Chrome. I do have multiple extensions installed, but I've gone through the options in Firefox and any relating to downloads and none of them seem to have anything that might cause this. I did check the Applications tab under the Firefox Options, since that seemed like a probable cause. But I don't see anything. And I don't recall changing anything recently, in any case. I can't see anything in Better Explorer that would cause this behavior. Which is borne out by this not occurring in other browsers. And I haven't changed anything it, either.

I tried downloading something with NetVideoHunter and I get the same behavior. But it doesn't happen with DownloadThemAll!

I've tried researching it on-line, but the queries I use are apparently too similar to the ones for other issues, because nothing that comes up is even close to my problem.

As this is getting very annoying, any help would be greatly appreciated. Firefox remains my favorite desktop browser and I'm not prepared to give it up over this. But I'd hate to have to reinstall it, since I have it configure just the way I want it. And I'm not even sure that would fix the issue.

Thanks

After I had some problems with it (+ security issue) I decided to delete all passwords from my firefox. When I had done this most of the annoying auto-fill-in stuff was solved, however at one website (which I visit quite regularly) it seems to keep filling in one particular username and a password wherever there's a field for either one. Even if it's just a normal field with a title it'll fill in that username.

How can I get rid of this?

I'm having problems with Firefox consuming too much RAM memory. Several people are complaining about this but I did some further research before posting here, using about:memory, and I found out that js-non-window and js-main-runtime are causing this.

When I start up a blank Firefox session I immediately have an allocation of 260MB of RAM. About 75-80% of this is taken up by those two js (javascript?) processes.

After opening about 10 tabs with different webpages the RAM usage has gone up to about 750MB. During the time the tabs are open most of the extra MB's are consumed by the window-objects (40MB per page, still seems quite a lot to me for just a news site with one article...) but after closing them the memory usage didn't go down and it transferred to the two already mentioned js processes. This transfer to the js processes is not always the case, it seems to happen only if I open a lot of tabs, let's say 10+ perhaps.

I tried disabling Javascript using the plugin SettingSanity, but this makes browsing quite uncomfortable of course and worst of all it doesn't solve the problem. The mentioned processes keep using the same amount of RAM.

I have this exact same problem on all my computers and laptops so it can't be a coincidence. Is there nothing I can do about this? Is this under investigation? How can a browser with 10 web pages open need almost 800MB of RAM?

And please don't answer "install more RAM". The pc I have most problems with has 2GB of physical RAM and I really do think that opening 10 web pages should be possible on such a computer. Doing the same in Internet Explorer consumes less than half the amount of RAM memory.

P.S: I sent this query using IE because I could't get to this page in Firefox. The "Ask This" button didn't work...

Usually what happens is I click on the link, and usually the vid will start to load. Sometimes it will even start to play. But then it stops, and nothing more happens. I was getting messages that I needed a new edition of Adobe Flashplayer but that's not happening since I upgraded to the latest Firefox version (27?). This doesn't only happen with vid links that others send. I frequently look up stuff myself; and more often than not the video won't play. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, different flashplayers (not Adobe), but nothing has helped.
