On the Add-ons Manager page/Plugins entry for Shockwave Flash appears the line "Shockwave Flash is known to be vulnerable and should be updated." This is followed by a link reading "Update Now". When I click this link, Firefox thinks for a while and then brings up a page that says (it's quite long, so this is a summary) Shockwave Flash versions have been disabled, so this page appears when you click on any of its links.

Since "Update Now" doesn't work, please send me an executable file that will fix this. Firefox says it is version 30.0.

Hi,

I posted this question some time ago and since i didnt get any working solution and I still have this issue I am reposting it now. My problem is simple: I start up my computer and open Firefox. I browse the internet normally. No problem so far. But lets say I go to take a nap or I just stop browsing to do something else on the computer without closing Firefox or whatsoever. After a while I go back to browsing on Firefox (the same window with the same tabs are still open) but now no page will finish loading no matter how long i wait.

So I close Firefox and open it again. Then I get a popup error saying Firefox is still running and that i need to close it. When i close that popup then i get another error saying it was unable to load my profile. I close that and reopen Firefox. Now it loads pages normally again but but only for 1 or 2 minutes and not any more after that. I repeat the whole process and i still get the same results until i restart my computer.

I have checked for any viruses and i have none at all and there is absolutely no problem with my overall connection since no other programs have this problems only Firefox. What can i do?

Thank you.

Edit: Im having the issue right now and I just checked but seems like some tabs work and some dont so i really dont get it.

FF uses 100+ CPU on my otherwise totally fast up-to-date MacBook. This, despite doing all the fixes suggested, repeatedly.

It has gotten so bad that it constantly overheats my Mac, causes my fan to go on full blast non-stop, even when it's in the background, so I basically have to stop using it.

Mozilla needs to get serious and overhaul this heavy-use browser.

Firefox 43.0.1 is practically unusable, so I have been forced to migrate to Chrome.

FF43 seems to have finally gotten the memory usage problem under control, but with the price that Firefox is now unable to open more than 2 or 3 tabs before becoming unable to open any more. This happens when restoring a previous set of tabs. The first few tabs viewed open without any problems, but when I click over to the third or fourth one I start to see blank screens. After that nothing happens.

(I am using WinXP SP3. I am not using "Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager." The past 20 versions of FF have all had memory overflow issues when many tabs were open, but they all remained usable. This version 43 is the first one which is basically unusable.)

I have Firefox 44.0.2 but this problem has been going on even on previous versions. If I click on the star it goes through the motions of placing a bookmark. I even see this animation of a star moving to the list of bookmarks. But when I go into the bookmarks they are not listed. I have tried right clicking on the page and clicking the star and I have tried it form the tool bar. Neither works. I have also renamed the places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old and that doesn't seem to do a thing.

Firefox 58.02 64 bit keeps crashing! I believe the installation is somehow corrupted. Apparently firefox was doing an update in the background when my computer lost power.

I can't type barely a word or two into any search box, or data field of any web site and it CRASHES! I tried changing the search engine to Bing, Google, Duckduckgo It will crash even any data field of any web site. I had to type this entry into Notepad and paste it in because it Firefox kept crashing ON FIREFOX'S OWN SURVEY WEB PAGE! I have tried REFRESH. I have restarted in Safe Mode and started a new session. I have updated Firefox to 58.02 (64 bit) I have turned off "check spelling as you type, just in case it was that. No difference. I have done an uninstall, reboot, and reinstall. Updated my graphics driver per one forum sugestion

This is repeatable, every time. I have sent dozens of crash report with my email address and "allow mozilla to contact me about this report" checked off and still I have heard nothing.

Hi,

I recently downloaded and installed some Android emulator named "Andy". Unfortunately, the .exe also installed all kinds of other Software on my Windows 7 system.

I removed most of the unwanted Software but one problem remained: A search result hijacker was part of the package. It replaces the top 4 results with some cryptic redirect links that are luckily displayed in a different font, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed at all.

I tracked the issue down to a addon in Firefox (see attached screenshot) that I cannot remove, no matter what I try.

What I tried to remove it: - I tried to remove the addon via about:config - I tried to run Firefox in safe mode and uninstall it - I tried to factory reset Firefox - I Installed Avira and made a system scan - I installed MalwareBytes and made a system scan - I check all the extension folders for addons that I do not know but can't find anything - I checked my whole system for any xpi-files but couldn't find any.

I am out of ideas. I can disable the addon but thats about it. After a while Firefox will shut itself down and the next time I start it, the addon is on again. When I resinstall FIrefox, the same thing happens. The addon is always back.

When I inspect the element it loads some invisible icon file that is supposedly located in "src="jar:file:///C:/Windows/Installer/%7BB28AF4A4-C997-4A5B-A111-FD1E65138A8D%7D/%7B02E337C0-4D70-452D-AA64-92D0A8C5D953%7D.xpi!/icon48.png"", if that helps. But the location doesn't exist on my system.

Can anyone here help me? I alread sent a problem report via the official tool.

I've been anticipating the new update I was told would be today, and it was. After I updated it to Version 28 I opened FF and it immediately crashed. I sent in a crash report, and did that three other times. So now, sadly, I'm back to version 27 that stinks as well.

Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong with it?? I checked my addons for compatibility and said they were fine. I did nothing different except update to newest version. Not sure what else to do. I refuse to uninstall anything at this point, although that seems to be the basic "advice" given here.....it never solves my problems LOL

So, what next?? And thanks for any help.

When I try to open a Microsoft Word or xls file (not Powerpoint), I get the useless Microsoft popup: "Microsoft X has stop working. Windows is looking for a solution....". This just started the other day and I haven't made any changes to my computer. I don't know if this an Office or Firefox issue. It happens on multiple website/programs in Firefox.

Everything was hunky dory until the awful v48 update. With no other changes to the system, bookmarks are now annoyingly slow to use. If I try to bookmark this page for example, FF has to think for 2-5 seconds before I can enter tags. After saving the bookmark it freezes for another 1-3 seconds before I can do anything else. This is an awful downgrade.

There were absolutely no other changes to my setup except for the update. I didn't change any preference, install an addon, or the like. In any case, I performed a safe mode test and this makes the pauses even worse.

What else can I try? Your FF knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Considerations when upgrading from V41 or V43

Long time user (15-20 yrs?), I have been avoiding the "next" upgrade for several years for various reasons (hate change, fave add-ons go away, hate change, not broke-don't fix, hate change...). But I am now running into a few websites that won't permit this browser, so it may be time to move on. With heavy adblocking and tracker-blocking and my benign web browsing habits, I've not been concerned about security (never had a virus in 20 years - knock wood). It's just full functionality and slowness at this point. At this point, I see even my Classic Theme Restorer is no longer available, so I'll just have to bite the bullet on aesthetics and deal with a modern browser. However, a couple of things are unclear:

1. does 20 years of bookmark history (and remembered history) affect memory footprint. I only refer to existing bookmarks occasionally these days and may consider a full purge. Partial purge would probably be too time-consuming. Maybe even a full profile purge might be worthwhile for a true clean slate. Maybe FF has come a long way and old extensions and settings won't be necessary. I also have several about: settings that I may (or may not?) miss.

2. Are automatic updates unavoidable in newer versions? I read about "manual" but it sounded temporary.

3. The permissions on many potential add-ons I've looked at are quite unnerving... e.g many of them require full access to ALL my data (usernames and passwords!!!) and I know the function has no need for such. Who has time to investigate these fully for safety? Is there any anti-malware vetting required for add-ons to be available?

4. I know newer is generally faster, but FF has a history of growing and slowing down after upgrades. My hardware isn't getting any newer (although its more than ample for my current needs), but software tends to be developed on latest and greatest hardware. How does latest FF compare to circa V41 in memory usage?


In any case, I thought I would give the latest vesion a whirl on my old Vista laptop (which is currently at V43) and check it out before plunging in on my W7 work PC or home PC. Any answers or insight into such a big jump are much appreciated.

I am running Firefox 52.9.0 (32-bit), Win XP PRO SP3 on several computers and only my desktop has this problem.

Youtube videos embedded in other pages do not work and only blank space is displayed but if I go to Youtube the videos play correctly. This only happens in one computer. In other computers running same Firefox 52.9.0 (32-bit), Win XP PRO SP3 this problem does not happen.

I guess it might be some configuration problem.

I have used Firefox for many years and am always current, as I am with Windows 10, but the last few updates have caused major problems:

1. At times I get a red screen Firefox Critical Error which usually locks up my PC. Sometimes I can free it up with Cntl/Alt/Del, but sometimes I cannot even shut down, have to physically unplug the PC. The screen says to call a phone number for Microsoft support, but this is a 3rd-party company selling software which has somehow compromised Firefox. I reported this before but no one seems to be doing anything about it.

2.Although I have checked Block pop-up windows under Permissions, I now get suspicious pop-up windows the first time I click on many web pages. If I immediately close these, I can then use the page fine. Is there something else I need to do to block these pop-ups?

Running Windows 7 (64-bit). Two days ago, any time I started a new tab, I would get an error box similar to the one attached and the subjects line. About 3 to 4 times per tab open. No matter if I hit okay, or cancel, no difference. Everything worked as needed. Last night, firefox Quantum was forced installed, and now nothing works any longer. No internet connection, nothing. It's pretty much a dead piece of software.

I have uninstalled it using various methods. One was to rename the folders in Program files to old and re-install. No go. Used the Control Panel - Programs and Features. No go. Followed about all instructions I could find, but the error does not go away. Reboots, safe mode, you name it. I even installed the previous copy, an no matter how often I change settings to not automatically install updates, that Quantum update will eventually force it's way in and be installed, no matter what. I think that pending update is what broke this, and now it completely non-recoverable.

It's pretty much bricked at this point, and I have had to switch to Chrome for everything, while I used both depending on what I was doing in the past. The poor working and memory hogging of the past version forced me to use Chrome more and more, and I may have to give up on what once a good and decent product, as it apparently was not tested with Windows 7 as I see a series of similar issues, and no solutions. Everybody is provided with similar instructions, but I have yet to see a working solution.
