I've some search engines which was configured a lot of years ago (or maybe was imported from another browser many years ago). They are working in address bar (e.g. I can enter there "cve something", press Enter and get redirected to https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=something), but not listed neither in about:preferences#search nor in my profile's search.json.mozlz4 (I've unpacked and checked it - it contents does match about:preferences#search). I've tried to grep for "cvekey.cgi" in my profile folder but get no results (I suppose these "hidden" search engines are stored in some sqlite file).

I'd like to have these hidden search engines listed in about:preferences#search. I can even manually re-add them, but how can I find complete list of all configured search engines?

I'm testing FF102 for rollout in September and working through various issues. The latest one I've come across is the edit bookmark "button" on the right of the URL bar. It's a blank space on the URL bar, and when hovered over is a highlighted blank space. After clicking it twice it displays the Edit book mark menu.

How can I remove it completely? I've look at about:config and nothing stands out as obvious to me controlling this and I can't find a setting for it.

The image below shows the highlighted blank icon space.

This code in userChrome.css worked in FF91 but only hides the icon in FF102.

#star-button { display:none !important; }

Thanks

I use Last Pass for passwords & it's worked in the past on Firefox. After updating Firefox, the Last Pass extension in by toolbar is black - in the past I would click that, open the Last Pass page to sign in, then the icon turns red and functions. Now when I click the icon a frozen page comes up that never loads. I can sign in to the Last Pass webpage, but that doesn't turn on the extension.

Any advice appreciated - thanks!

I recently replaced my old laptop by a new one after battery life issue (and for free thks total refund warrantly). But the new laptop unfortunately come with windows 11.

and like with windows 10, FF 97+ force the windows OS color theme style for checkboxes over the websites stylised ones (like a dark themed website with its own original soft small dark gray checkboxes being replaced by big light blue windows ones making the design ugly) I tried the same trick as my former laptop by switching widget.non-native-theme.enabled to "false", but it caused a tab crash on all page using checkboxes. Restarting firefox solved the crash issue, but even if slightly different than native-theme.enabled on "true"(smaller and dark blue) the checkboxes are always a single forced windows like style on all sites

The trick worked easily on windows 10, how to force firefox to correctly use the websites own style for checkboxes and forms with windows 11? I don't want windows style take over the design of site i visiting.

I go to Yahoo.com for email several times daily. I rarely go to Youtube.com .

I believe the order that url suggestions (and autocomplete) come up has changed in one of Firefox's updates and now, as soon as I type the "y", Firefox suggests Youtube.com . I go to Yahoo.com a hundred times for any one time I might visit Youtube and Yahoo would come first alphabetically so I would assume it would "suggest" Yahoo before Youtube.

My guess is that Firefox decides on which site is more popular during daily browsing but this was not the case before.

I have tried several methods to attempt to control the order the suggestions appear but Youtube still autocompletes as soon as I type the "y".

Any way to change this to my liking? Or is this just the way it is and will be?

I've attached a screenshot but I edited it to obliterate a few id's and personal information from the example url's.

I've downloaded a couple of add-ons this week that did not do what they claim to do, so I wanted to leave reviews so other users won't waste their time. Except when i got to do so, i am surprised to see that therte is no clear way to write a review for an add-on. I am logged into the add-ons page, i can view the previous reviews for the add-on, but nowhere does it inticate how I can leave a review. Google led me to the Mozilla add-ons wiki which states "You can complete most of the review using the reviewer tools at addons.mozilla.org" except there is no indication to where one can locate these "reviewer tools." Seems a bit funny to me that Mozilla would choose to hide the functionality and make it so difficult to use.

Any help is appreciated.

Since upgrading to Firefox 103.0.1 on Linux Mint I am noticing that clicking on the URL bar or typing anything into it now adds "Search with Google" and "Search with Amazon" in the dropdown URL suggestions. This is unwanted behaviour since I have those search engines disabled.

In searching for an answer I found some old suggestions such as setting browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete to false. However this no longer works.

I have sync turned on, even clicked the sync button again. I had a lot of sites set to open in particular containers, now they all ope in personal. After doing an update to Firefox (currently on 102.0.1), the settings for what happens when I click on a PDF file always seems to reset to 'save file', when what I want (and what I have to keep changing back to) is 'Always ask'.

Is this a known issue or is it something about my environment that causes this?

My system is running Windows 11 on an HP laptop with an AMD 7-5800U CPU and 8Gb of memory. [I'm posting this on my desktop machine which doesn't seem to exhibit the same behaviour - Windows 10 on an Intel 8500 CPU and 16Gb of memory]

thanks for any advice.

Today when I opened Firefox, it did not have my previous session of hundreds of tabs. I have come to terms with the fact that I won't be getting it back.

The problem now is that Firefox refuses to restore the previous session when I close and re-open it, although the setting to do so is still ticked. It worked without any issues up until yesterday, and now it does not.

I have not changed any settings. I have not added any add-ons, and none that I use mess with sessions to begin with. The last update for Firefox was 4 days ago, and doesn't mention anything related. I have not installed any programs that would mess with Firefox's files. It just arbitrarily changed behavior, and I am at a complete loss.

This is on Win 10. Any help is appreciated.

Hello, i usually activate the search tab via ctrl+f and using the highlighting feature. If i manually edit text in the search box, the highlight is updated respectively , but if i select any word on the page (mouse double-click if this matters) and then press ctrl+f again (which is expected to be filled in the searchtab), the highlitght is still on the old word. Is this a bug ? or maybe there is an easy solution to this.

Hi everyone,

a long time ago, Firefox on GNU/Linux didn't have this default behaviour I've described in the title of my question (but FF on Windows had this behaviour at the time, so I believe it was decided to unify the behaviour on all platforms).

The thing is: I truly dislike having the existing text selected automatically. When I click a precise location in the URL or Search field (where some text already exists), I expect the text cursor to locate at this exact spot, NOT the existing text to be entirely selected! With this "new" default behaviour, it now requires 2 clicks to achieve the same task (not what I'd call an improvement) and makes it really PAINFUL to construct a list of search terms (one by one) by copying/pasting them from the current web page (funnily, it proves to be less painful when copying text from another application, since the automatic selection of previously pasted search terms does NOT happen when pasting an additional term -> this is exactly the behaviour I'm expecting).

Historically, whenever I was willing to have the existing text SELECTED (I agree this can be useful from time to time), I used keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+L or Ctrl+K to move the text cursor to the URL or Search field (respectively).

All in all, the historical behaviour of FF on GNU/Linux was just fine (at least to me).

So my QUESTION today is: how to get this historical behaviour back? How to prevent the existing text from being selected when I just CLICK in the URL or Search field?

I've not been able to find a hidden option to configure this behaviour since FF on Linux changed the rule. So I'm afraid it doesn't exist... But if so, would it be possible to add such an option?

Thank you :)

Many file types are no longer listed under Settings > Applications>Content Type at about:preferences#general. I used to be able to click on a file in an email like a Word or Excel document, and it would come up on my screen. Now Firefox asks me to Save them. I don't want to automatically save files without first looking at them. How can I get those file types in the Application list again?

I have attached a pic of the file types I have left to chose from. There used to be a lot more. How can I get back all the missing choices I have had there for years?
