Firefox is unable to load module

I've been trying to setup a smartcard reading device, and I've gotten stuck twice on the same place.

When it comes to configuring the Security Device on Firefox, I can't access the .so file. Firefox merely shows the error "Alert: Unable to add module", but I've noticed that when I try to browse my files manually, trying to access the /usr directory returns an error (sometimes, I seem to not be able to get it consistently).

It also happens that the software I installed for the digital certificate tried to open an html with Firefox, which is located in /usr/share/, and Firefox doesn't seem to be able to load that either. It returns a "Can't open file".

Steps followed

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Settings → Privacy and Security → Security Devices → Load
  3. Insert path /usr/lib/libpkcs11-dnie.so and try to load (yes, I've checked that the file does actually exist)
  4. Receive Alert: Unable to add module error

Relevant information

   Ubuntu 22.04
   I'm on the latest snap version of Firefox: 100.0.1-1

Hi,

If I launch this, all's fine:

firefox.exe http://myurl

I can view the site at http://myurl.

However, I want to launch firefox with a specific profile, so I tried this:

firefox.exe -profile "C:\firefox\profile" http://myurl

I know that the profile's directory is loaded and written to because I created that dir with ONLY chrome/userchrome.css, and after launching firefox I can see a whole bunch of new files in there (eg. json files, sqlite files, etc.)

I can also see that it is also properly applying the settings in userchrome.css after I enabled toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets.

However, http://myurl is not being opened at all. The culprit seems to be my userchrome.css which contains:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

  1. openLocation, #urlbar-container, #CustomizeToolbarWindow, #toolbar-context-menu, #menubar-items {
display:none!important;

}

My intention is to open a URL and disable all other bells and whistles in the browser except the window and forward/back buttons (ie. I do not want kiosk mode).

How can I do that?

[EDIT]

It seems that #urlbar-container is the problem. If I set it to display:none!important, firefox will not open the URL I provide on the command line. Why? So, how can I tell firefox to open a URL but not allow the user to navigate elsewhere by typing it in the "urlbar"?

[EDIT 2]

This seems to do the trick:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

  1. openLocation, #CustomizeToolbarWindow, #toolbar-context-menu,
  2. search-container, #personal-bookmarks, #menubar-items {
display:none!important;

}

  1. urlbar-container {
visibility:hidden;

}

However, I'd like to know if there are caveats.

BTW if Mozilla's support for userchrome.css will ever be dropped in the future what is a better way of doing the above? I certainly can't use kiosk mode and -app (app mode) is unavailable and will probably never will be.

I was using a Private Browsing window. I logged into an account and when I finished, I closed the window. I still had a standard FF window open. I realized I hadn't finished my transaction with the account that I had logged into in the private window a minute earlier and opened a new private window. When I went back to the site for the account, I was already logged in. I was surprised by this. I thought that all the information in a private browsing session was gone once that window was closed. I'm not the only person that thinks this. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1295042 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1305020

The answers to those questions are old. Has the practice of needing to close ALL FF windows after finishing a private browsing session gone away or that of using the Storage Inspector to delete cookies been replaced by a more convenient solution?

It seems to me that if those answers are still standard practice that those practices should be communicated to FF users in a more obvious way in the name of privacy. The practices required in those answers seriously diminish the effect of privacy in private browsing for unknowing users. And they're inconvenient for those that know.

I'd like to use Vimium on every page. Some Firefox pages disable add-ons, like the settings page, when viewing pdfs, home page, this page etc..

How do I keep Vimium enabled always?

On these pages, clicking the Vimium icon reads: > Vimium is not running on this page.

> Your browser does not run web extensions like Vimium on certain pages, > usually for security reasons.

> Unless your browser's developers change their policy, then unfortunately > it is not possible to make Vimium (or any other web extension, for that > matter) work on this page.

Note, I originally had this thread but it got archived. What I said works, no longer works, probably after an update: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1339503

Hello Everyone.

I've been using Firefox for the longest time I can remember. I loved it. And I also have found the Firefox Account function quite convenient and useful. Also an avid fan. However, as of two months ago, I needed to re-install my Ubuntu OS on my laptop and of course Firefox as well. I enabled 2FA as I did before and it was a breeze. However, when I started using it (Account log-in/log-out) I keep getting asked to have the confirmation via my email and NOT via the 2FA app generated code I registered with it. At first, I still have the patience for it. But after several months, I am already pissed off. It's such an unbearable nuisance already, when I always have my 2FA app that I can always refer to in a snap. I really hate what's happening now. Can anybody please tell me what went wrong with Firefox 2FA account and why it keeps bugging me for email confirmation and not use the 2FA generated code? Makes me think all my efforts in setting the 2FA app useless and I've had enough already.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I have a spare computer I don't use frequently, but which has a synced Firefox installation on it.

I am concerned that as I add and remove bookmarks, it will get further behind and, when it is reconnected, will cause deleted bookmarks to reappear or new bookmarks to disappear. Alternately I'm concerned that the change queue might exceed some size and cause sync to generally fail across my devices. My tablet got "stuck in the past" once and couldn't send or receive new bookmarks despite Sync seemingly working and connected, so I'm worried that perhaps that's what happened already.

On the other hand, if I were to remove that device from Sync, what happens if I were to add it back to Sync?

...If I deleted its bookmarks during or after disconnecting it? I feel like this might cause the bookmarks on my other devices to get deleted too.

...If I don't delete its bookmarks? I feel like this might cause any bookmarks I deleted in the interim to reappear.

Also, is there a maximum size to Sync? I have several thousand bookmarks.

I set FireFox to automatically save PDF links. Also I disabled the annoying downloads pop-up. When I click on a link, though, the screen briefly flashes white. The cursor stays in-place, so I can work under this condition, but it's an annoying distraction. Especially since nothing is being opened, so I'd expect the FireFox view to just stay as-is.

I've seen postings complaining about their blackscreen-themes flashing white when they do this. If I read right, the posted solutions were just to flash black instead of white. That's not what I'm trying to do here, I want to suppress the flash.

I have set my privacy settings to block all third-party cookies, but it makes wading through the console annoying when working with my userscripts.

Not only do I not care as practically every site complains about it, but the warning isn't even useful in understanding what has been blocked most of the time. I just end up with a console filled with "Cookie “” has been rejected as third-party." from a bunch of random sources.

Is there some way to suppress these and only these warnings? I want to be able to actually use warnings in my scripts. As of now, I just don't display warnings and use the other logging levels.

When typing in the search bar, recommendations start to appear (how I have my browser set-up). Default is to press the down arrow key to move down to the next suggestion. Is there a way to reverse this so pressing up rather than down will do the same action?

Is there a value that I can modify in about:config or write a line of CSS code to accomplish this?
