Firefox did an update today, so I assume this has something to do with it. Every time I do a download (and I do a lot) the drop down list showing the downloads I've done pops out. It didn't do this prior to the update. It used only to appear when I selected it. Now it comes out every blasted time. It's very annoying and distracting. To be clear, I still want to see the download arrow/indicator/whatever so I can see the download is happening, but I don't want to see the list each time. How do I make it STOP? Image attached. Before update when I clicked in PDF viewer toolbar download button it opened a screen to open with, right now it only download a file. I want it back. I have firefox as pdf viewer, but sometimes I need to open file with Acrobat DC, that's when I did click download button. It works on other computer like before, it is before firefox update.

I want to be able to print my .docx files without saving them first. I went to General and Applications. .docx is not in the list, so I'm unable to select how it handles these files. How do I add .docx to the list of content types?

Since Firefox 98, whenever a file is downloaded or a page is captured (using add-on Page Saver WE) a display/pop-up appears in the top right-hand corner of the screen (or possibly under the 'Display Download Progress 'button'). Previously, this prompt/display/pop-up would disappear after a few seconds. Now it stays there until there is a mouse click anywhere on the screen (including outside the Firefox window). This is presumably a bug and it is also extremely irritating. Please change this back to the way it used to be (disappearing after a few seconds) or provide an option to specify how long the prompt/display/pop-up should be visible - like the 'new mail' prompt from Thunderbird. Up until the latest FF release, opening an .ics (calendar file) link defaulted to the OS's preferred application; in my case Outlook. Now, every time I click on an .ics link FF asks where I want to save the file. I schedule ZOOM meetings all day and heavily rely on this feature.

I tried looking in FF's Files and Applications section in settings and .ics is not even listed as a file extension. I don't know how to add it.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Many file types are no longer listed under Settings > Applications>Content Type at about:preferences#general. I used to be able to click on a file in an email like a Word or Excel document, and it would come up on my screen. Now Firefox asks me to Save them. I don't want to automatically save files without first looking at them. How can I get those file types in the Application list again?

I have attached a pic of the file types I have left to chose from. There used to be a lot more. How can I get back all the missing choices I have had there for years?

When I click to open a link for a jpg file, it now prompts me to save, instead of opening. How can I go back to it just opening? Downloads are already set to ask how. PDF asks how, other files don't.

Hi, for the long time when I have opened an PDF with external application, it was downloaded into system %TEMP%, then deleted after ext. app was closed. Very fine and expected.

Since ca. few weeks such PDFs are now downloaded to Desktop - and not removed afterwards! It's quite annoying to clear them again and again. I've checked, my %TEMP% and %TMP% are set correctly and writeable.

I know Firefox recently changed some settings regarding automatic downloading of files, but I need to know how to stop Firefox from automatically downloading .pdf files that I view. Sometimes I just want to view a pdf without downloading the file. Firefox keeps automatically downloading the file, then after viewing it, I have to manually delete. I don't to do this! I just want to view the file and if I want to keep it, I'll save a copy. This is extremely annoying! Can I change the settings so that the file won't automatically save to my computer? Thanks

I used to be able to open a file (with a program) without it being saved. Ever since 98.0, the "open" option saves the file regardless. I even had to find a work around to get the "What should Firefox do with this file?" prompt.

Is this no longer possible?

Firefox 98 just upgraded my installation and as usual Mozilla's made changes that screw up how I use it.

The download improvements they made specifically. I used to be able to have Firefox view a PDF so I could peruse it and decide if I want to keep it and if I did I just hit the download button in the viewer. Now the "improvements" will only either let me set it so it either downloads right away or if I change it to view in Firefox it won't let me download it via the viewer DL button. It acts like it's gonna download by opening the save window but then nothing happens when I hit the save button.

Can Mozilla please fix this? I don't want to save every PDF I want to see if I want to keep. I want to be able to view it in Firefox again and THEN download it if I want it.

starting with deployment of version 98 all users do not have the possibility to chose the PDF handling when clicking on a link to a PDF.

In the release notes of version 98 Mozilla mentions that "in this release, you’ll also see that Firefox no longer asks what to do for each file by default. You won’t be prompted to choose a helper application or save to disk before downloading a file unless you have changed your download action setting for that type of file."

So this does mean that the list of file types and the possibilities on how to handle them is still available. All file types are still available, except PDF. This happens when installing 98 on a fresh machine or when upgrading from v. <98 to v. 98. It seems that the "handlers.json" is being modified during first use of version 98, PDF entry is being deleted.

Please could you have a look on that issue and let us know if you can reproduce / if you will fix it?

Hello. I noticed that Firefox (98.0.2) doesn't even ask if the file should be saved or opened with a program when downloading some file types. Unfortunately, these file types (e.g. GPX) are not listed under Settings --> General --> Files and Applications, so that I could assign them to a program or specify that they should always be asked. And I can't add these files somehow... I have also deleted the file "handler.json" in the profile folder, hoping to be asked then. But that doesn't happen. GPX files, for example, are assigned to the GSAK program in the system - but Firefox just wants to save them and doesn't offer the option to open them directly in GSAK. Does anyone know advice how I can get Firefox to give me the choice? Thanks a lot.

I want to have a default download location with the ability to select an alternate location on any download, not to have the last download location remembered as the current save to location.

I have a primary folder to which I want to have the majority of my downloads go to, but on some occasions, I want a download to go to some other location. The current settings "Save files to" and "Always ask you where to save files" do not enable this capability.

Others have asked for this ability too.

"And now, every time you start a download, Firefox will automatically bring up the Downloads panel by default. This means you’ll experience minimal interruptions and easily find your downloaded files. Plus, to avoid having to close it several times, the panel won't show if there are multiple downloads in progress."

in all actuality, this is not a minimal interruption, this is a massive interruption. if i want to see my download ill open the download toolbar button! how do you stop this annoying popup? do i have to go back to an older version? is there an option to turn this off? there are tons of articles all the way back to 2011 on how to turn this off, but they dont apply to the newest version.

Hello! I updated the my browser to v 98.0 (64-bit) on my Manjaro Linux with 5.10.102-1-MANJARO kernel.

The browser works fine. However, there is one thing which is completely breaking my workflow is the new way Firefox handles its PDF downloads.

Previously: - if I used to click on PDF links such as (http://www.africau.edu/images/default/sample.pdf) see google-chrome img they opened in browser and if I downloaded the PDF it would ask me where to store the file. - Downloading PDF on WhatsApp, University website, LinkedIn like apps, it would prompt the "Always Ask" prompt

After the update the applications settings have changed

Now: It is either "always ask" (even in case of links like: http://www.africau.edu/images/default/sample.pdf which is annoying or if I change the setting to "Open in Firefox" on downloading material, when clicked without CTRL+Click (my previous workflow I simply used to click to download material) opens the downloaded PDF in-place so the loaded University website or whatsapp app is closed.

I am really annoyed and I've cycled through all the application settings and none of them seem to work like before.

How do I fix this?

Hello, my previous application settings was messed up after the latest automatic update, I attempted a refresh but all my previous extension on the application settings was lost, so whenever I click a file ie Zip, rar not on the list it will save only instead of having the option of open.

How may I add back the extension association to a particular application in firefox?

Previously it will automatically detect the default applications to file type in Windows.

Please don't suggest the restore old profile method, done that and didn't work. Refresh and reinstall also been done.

Hi. Since the last update, everytime I download something, I get a drop down box in the upper right showing me the downloads. I don't need to be shown this every time I download something. How do I stop this? Thank you.

After the automatic update to version 98, I'm finding that Firefox insists on putting a copy of my downloaded files into the Download file even after I turned that off in the General tab of Settings. Also found it odd that I was unable to take a screenshot of these settings, but had to use Printscreen to do so!

It seems after latest update the download management is broken.

I used to be able to download a jpeg or image and it would automatically download it to a pic folder I have set up. And if I download a pdf or some other file type it would download it to my dedicated Firefox download folder.

Now No matter what I do it treats all the file types the same as far as where they go when downloaded and it will not remember my last folder for that file type.

I know there is a section in the settings to tell FF what to do with each file type, but FF no longer will automatically download jpegs for example to the pics folder I set up, FF always just puts the jpegs in my FF download folder for all other file types.

It's been the same way for a long time and it worked fine, no it seems with last update functionality has been broken compared to how it used to be.

Is there any way to go back to previous behavior? Just like many FF updates lately, it seems to break things and make things more difficult than they used to be.
