I though that if I browsed in a private window that there would be no history record? This is the case with all other internet browsers that I use and it is automatic. I have never needed to go into settings. The Mozilla private browsing has remembered every site that I've been on and does not "forget" them when I log off. The history IS shown. What's more, I can NOT delete them with ctrl/shift/delete. This immensly irritating!!!!!! Please offer a solution.

So, interesting opportunity to learn something new! ;) What is wrong: buffering. At first I thought I have problems with Flash alone, but this isn't true. Any video [be it on Youtube or Twitch, Flash player or HTML5 player, doesn't matter] randomly will stop. I will see the buffer "icon" and... nothing happens. Ever. I can leave it for as long as I want, it will not budge. On Twitch.tv it's a bit different, it will pause the stream for a solid minute and then "restart" itself.

Cleared cache, session files, updated Flash, used Ccleaner as well. Don't want to go through creating a new profile yet (a bit of a hassle), trying to figure out what might be causing the issue. As I said, it's very random, sometimes happens in short video on Youtube, sometimes I can watch long videos without much problem. And no, my internet is not the issue, double checked on that.

Any ideas?

When I bring up a spreadsheet online in google docs Firefox starts dimming the screen, others tabs run slow. The screen dimming will last, for 2-3 minutes, and then clear up, 2-3 minutes later it will dim again. The fewer tabs I have helps, but not the answer. IMO the problem has gotten worse over the few upgrades. I have an HP 2000 Laptop, CPU 1300.000 MHz, memory 7586 MiB.

Okay I know most of them are explained in the kb article linked above but not all. I was wondering if anyone knows what each one does and what are the effects of deleting them in the process. Since Firefox won't remove obsolete/replaced with/superseded files, I have to do this manually to clean up the bloat with certain versions. That and some of them haven't been updated in awhile or so so I question its current stance to keep it in the folder.

Firefox is crashing my X windows every time I try to start it. Actually so is Thunderbird, but right now I don't have time to try to reinstalll the packages, move my profile., or any of the standard moves.

All I want to do is fetch a few bookmarks from my Toolbar. I've searched for them in the backfiles -- text of course -- and had not luck. So I tried python to read the sqlite db's.

On all the databases, I get the error: "file is encrypted or is not a database."

It'd be one thing if it were just a single db file, but it's all of them: cookies, places, permissions, etc.

Gmail msg says: "JavaScript must be enabled in order for you to use Gmail in standard view. However, it seems JavaScript is either disabled or not supported by your browser. To use standard view, enable JavaScript by changing your browser options, then try again."

Somehow I ended up disabling javascript and now can't reactivate it. I need help as non of the sites are working now.

After "Refresh"ing Firefox, it now by default saves a file with the page title, not the filename. I can no longer find out how to change this default behaviour (presumably I'd used an addon that has been deleted). This is extremely inconvenient - many archives have large numbers of filenames like "<number>.txt", e.g. "234567.txt", but all with the same title. I don't understand why keeping the old Firefox default was not made an option when you changed to saving by title!

Hi - I'm running Firefox 39 on Windows 7 PC desktop, 64-bit.

  • I already know how to restore bookmarks. I just can't figure out why they keep disappearing!
  • This has been bothering me for weeks. While troubleshooting this, I have backed up the bookmarks I want correctly. I have even exported an HTML bookmarks file as well as a backup JSON bookmarks file - just in case I could be dealing with a corrupted JSON or SQLITE or other mysterious file.
  • Yet my bookmarks keep disappearing. I'll have, for example, 100 bookmarks. Then suddenly, in the middle of my work, I'll notice some of my bookmarks in my toolbar gone. When I close my browser and re-open it again to check what's going on with my bookmark backups - I see my old JSON file with 100 bookmarks - and a NEWER file that has, let's say, 55 bookmarks. Poof! Forty-five (45) bookmarks have vanished in a flash! I restored them using the old file to get them back. But the problem of disappearing bookmarks keeps happening, apparently randomly.
  • As a last resort - I re-set my browser to create a new profile. But the problem continued. Then, in total frustration, I backed up my password and cookies SQLITE, DB and JSON files - and did a complete UNINSTALL of the browser - AS WELL AS - removing all "Mozilla" entries from the registry.
  • From there, I downloaded and did a clean install of Firefox and put the few aforementioned backup data files from my old profile - into the new one. I thought all would be fixed. NOPE!
  • I'm wondering if there is something embedded into my browser - either an add on or something in one of the SQLITE files - that is causing this baffling problem. Yes, I can restore my old bookmarks back to their original state. But scores of them continue to disappear in the middle of a session. And when I close that session - the LAST visible bookmarks become part of a new backup JSON file that's generated, but that file purges a lot of my original bookmarks.
  • I hope this makes sense. Help! - Slammed and Sleepless in San Diego.

New Firefox user. Frequently I visit text only page- data strings are quite long. The default view for text only appears to be "Wrap Long Lines", which defeats the sorted information by line. Fortunately I found Page Style under View when I turned on Menu Bar. But when I revisit or refresh the page it defaults back to the word wrap, its getting old. Is there a way to change the default to "Basic page style"..or turn off word wrap, permanently. I looked under options but just havent seen a way to change this. Thanks

Yesterday I installed FF 43.0 - 64bit. I did as clean install as I could, uninstalled old version, and deleted from HDD every "mozilla" and "firefox" directory I could find. Since then, I am unable to access next sites (I believe list is not complete): https://www.google.com/ https://www.facebook.com/ https://www.google.com/maps https://www.google.rs/?gws_rd=ssl

Error msg is alwaays the same: "You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure. Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do? If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue. This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate. Technical details: www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"

Sites that I can normaly access with this FF are: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/ https://translate.google.com/ https://mail.google.com/

All other browsers can access all sites without problems.

Hello more advanced users, I have always used firefox however I have never faced an issue like this, it might sound weird to you all but all of sudden, literally all of sudden without me doing anything the Firefox ENTIRE window become fully transparent like you can see in the following pic: http://i.imgur.com/lFk0l1f.jpg

I have already started firefox in safe mode, reinstalled, deleted the entire users folder and started over again and NOTHING simply NOTHING stops this fully transparency, the only temporary fix I found was installing an addon called GlassMyFirefox that was supposed to add transparency to it but then made the opposite finally giving me the normal look to firefox (however every time I reboot the system the full transparency returns even with the addon so I am forced to Reinstall it so it kills the transparency again)

I have ran out of ideas even a full reinstall deleting everything (used Iobit unistaller and cleaned roaming folder) couldn't stop my firefox from going full transparent... I wonder if this issue has ever occured before and if anyone could happen to know how to fix it because firefox is unusable with that level of transparency and like I said I only use firefox no chrome or Edge or anyother browser therefore I need a fix hehe

Firefox only sees the first entry defined in /etc/hosts for 127.0.0.1.

Basically, Firefox is not seeing the modifications to the DNS entries I've made in /etc/hosts. Chrome is. However, later I noticed that Safari is not seeing them as well. After the troubleshooting below, I fixed the problem by moving all my /etc/hosts declarations to different lines as per here: http://www.justincarmony.com/blog/2011/07/27/mac-os-x-lion-etc-hosts-bugs-and-dns-resolution/

I have no idea why that works. But it does fix the issue for Firefox and Safari.

I tried a couple of things as per this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1011327

Things I tried (typing about:config into address bar): set keyword.enabled to false set browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false turned of DNS caching.

None of these things worked, but migrating all my /etc/hosts config from multiple domains on a single line to separate lines did. Hope this helps someone.

Hi there,

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue that seems to be specific to FireFox and a specific website.

If you browse to www.denali.gov with FireFox, and then on the right side of the page click on "Denali Commission Project Database", FireFox will first pop up a message that says: "Your connection is not secure"

Here is a direct link to the page: https://www.denali.gov/dcpdb/index.cfm?nossl=true&fuseAction=Indicators.ShowProjectMapLink

Then if you click on Advanced and click the "(Not secure) Try loading www.denali.gov using outdated security" that page will fail to load with the following error message:

"An error occurred during a connection to www.denali.gov. The server rejected the handshake because the client downgraded to a lower TLS version than the server supports. Error code: SSL_ERROR_INAPPROPRIATE_FALLBACK_ALERT"

Before anyone says "have you tried searching our forums or Google?", I've been researching this issue for the past hour and have not been able to come up with a solution. I checked the TSL settings on the "about:config" page and changed the version.min settings, but that does not fix the problem.

I have not been able to come up with anything, and so I turn to you guys... :-)

Has anyone seen this issue before and has a fix? The error is easily reproducible: Browse to the page using FireFox and I'm sure you'll see the same error.

However, the page loads fine in other browsers. Except, I don't want to use other browsers; I want to use FireFox.
