Help!!!! I don't see any way to get rid of Yahoo as Firefox's default search engine. I have selected Google as the preferred default, and have chosen to remove all of the other choices. Yahoo is not one of the choices to remove, which I suppose is a clue! I'm leaving Firefox until this can be fixed. Yahoo is simply not an acceptable substitute!

~/.mozilla/firefox/[ASCII_VOMIT].default/ is where prefs.js lives. This file corresponds to my Firefox's about:config settings. [ASCII_VOMIT] is some alphanumeric garbage which might be my hashed profile name or something.

Edits to this file are reflected in my about:config settings, but edits to the file itself OR edits to about:config settings do not survive closing and reopening Firefox.

This week, after Firefox updated, I noticed that the icons for sites seem to be randomly scrambled in my bookmarks and on my new tab" screen.

For example, Facebook link on my browser bar shows the icon for Gmail. My Gmail link on the menu bar has no favicon any more and the gmail link on the blank tab page, is actually tie YouTube favicon.

Any way to re-read the sites as I visit them and have it correct itself?

In the past I could drag files from the downloads dropdown. Now, in order to drag downloaded files I have to open the downloads folder, which is an additional step and a nuisance. I suppose this changed with a recent FF update.

Is there any way to get the old functionality back?

I'm using FF 67.0 64-bit on a Win 10 64-bit PC.

Look, this is a huge problem because this message isn't just showing up on my Fire Fox browser, it's also on my TOR browser. I'm not seeking to fix TOR here, I'm just saying that it's on there too and TOR uses Fire Fox - this message appears nowhere else on my PC or browsers. My system was just purchased brand new in Feb. This message did not display when I dl either browser. I've NEVER downloaded ANY Avast or anything like it, I use Windows Defender and that's it. I'm not a techie - but I'm like really neurotic over hard drive space - I don't download ANYTHING unless I absolutely HAVE to with the exception of browsers. I only download those from their official websites though. I do play some games, I've only downloaded games from Steam, Origin, and Utomik. I do have all of their clients on my PC. Other than that, there's been NOTHING I've dl. I only included that info because I thought it might help. Can someone PLEASE help with this. I tried to look at the registry, I'm not seeing anything that seems amiss but I need more specifics - I've read the other questions and answers on this - but I don't know HOW to change anything to see if it helps. I already am scared to death to touch the registry.

This has happened to me several times:

When browsing, a new tab opens, telling me that Firefox needs to restart after a background update and that after that, my current session will be re-created, all tabs reopened. Except - after closing Firefox, no tabs are reopened and Firefox does not restart either. I have to reopen Firefox manually, will then receive an update notification and stare at an empty tab.

I use Firefox for work and this is annoying - I have taken to bookmarking everything in such a situation, but I hope there is another solution.

I use Firefox on Ubuntu 18.04.2 .

I know this has probably been asked before, but none of the solutions really work for me. Playing Youtube or other video on sites like Vimeo result in choppy playback. I have ruled out hardware problems, because playing local video works fine. This issue also occurs on Chrome, and turning on or off hardware acceleration does nothing.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I have have a profile folder that I have carried with me between computers to sync all of my addon preferences (NoScript per-site permissions).

After upgrading to Firefox 67 that profile now seems to be forever inaccessible to me. Attempts to launch it in the about:profiles page result in a message box titles

'You've launched an older version of Firefox'

The only options thereon are 'Create New Profile' and 'Quit'. My question: how do I regain access to the profile I spent months building up?

At the moment I have 4 pages open in tabs.

But each of them except the current page have lost their content and if I switch back each tab has to reload the page.

This just started happening after the lastest update. 67.0

For example I am on support community page if I tab back to Youtube which was open, it is now blank, has the tab description but reloads the page.

It's the same for all the tabs.

Any ideas. It's very annoying and thinking perhaps time to switch to chrome.

What is the expected behavior of the "Work Offline" mode regarding the access to a local server? To test my new Progressive Web App and its Service-Worker, I'd like to switch off temporary firefox from the network access. For this purpose, I though to use File->"Work Offline". What I observe is that in "Work Offline" mode the access to internet is disable (as I expect) but the access to my local web server for development is still avalaible (and I'm surprise about this behavior). To make sure that the Browser cache is not responsible for this behavior, I have clear the cache and disable the cache. Still I get the unexpected behavior: In "Work Offline" mode, Firefox can still request and download data from a localhost server! If I stop my localhost server, then Firefox complains about the missing data. Which is what I expect and what I also would like to see in "Work Offline" mode. What is the expected behavior of the "Work Offline" mode for the local servers? Is the current behavior a bug? I have also tried Chromium and it behaves as I expect, i.e. in "Work Offline" mode access to internet AND local servers are prevented. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 and Firefox 67.0.3 (64-bit)

Just finished the Windows 10 1903 feature release upgrade. Firefox allows me to browse just fine, there is only a slight problem that is annoying as I like to keep browser cache/history clear.

When I right-click to launch FF, the list of Recent searches in the menu is forever long. I've tried the Remove Item From List, but the list never gets any shorter. I used the normal procedure for Clear History and Cookies/Data in Privacy & Settings. Clearing Everything from everywhere that I know of.

However, the Recent list never gets any shorter. I even tried deleting the cache2 folder with FF closed, but no luck.

I've attached an image of the list in hopes someone can offer any advice. Thanks a bunch in advance.

Cheers

I have not added nor removed any extensions or add-ons. I simply opened firefox today and the window took up my whole screen as usual, but the actual browser, menu bar, etc only took up the top left corner of that window. The menu bar and all buttons on the browser work, but they act as if they are still in their original place, not where they are on the screen. To explain, it's like if you went to click the close window box on what you see, you'd be about 1/3 across the top of your screen from the left, but it's not there. You then go to hover over where it normally would be, on the top right corner, and then the close window box turns red to close. So it still thinks it's full size, but it's not. I can restart in safe mode and then it works, but as soon as you close and reopen, it goes back to mini Firefox. Attached is the image of what I see. Firefox opens and takes up the whole screen (where you see the small window and then the rest is white background).

Some ads are being blocked in Firefox, but for the life of me, I cannot find where I might have an ad blocker turned on in Firefox or installed as a plug-in or extension. Chrome displays the ads correctly. Example site is www.milesawaygrandparenting.com. There are three ads at the bottom of most pages which display in Chrome but not (for me, anyway) in Firefox.

Where might I look or troubleshoot to find out where the ads are being blocked? I have McAfee Total Protection installed, and Privacy Badger also.

I have a couple of websites that keep popping up from time to time unexpectedly. There must be a way to simply add websites names e.g. www.ihatetheseguys.net to someplace on my Firefox browser, something like a BANNED LIST. And once added that website can never open on my browser again.

This seems like it should be a very simple to thing to do.... it would be like the exceptions list we can access in options where we add websites to a list and they are allowed to open, but this would be the opposite.

I have searched around and it seems there are some add-ons/apps/programs I can download and run on my computer, one called BLOCKSITE. But I dont want to download anything. This seems like it should be a very simple to thing to do on the option page. Simply add a BANNED LIST where we can type in websites and when they try to nope they get noped away to oblivion.

When using Google Forms, the normal options on all forms like: "Preview", "Settings", etc are invisible. I'm able to see them if I hover over them, but they are not visible otherwise. I just did some troubleshooting with Geek Squad and determined it's a Firefox issue. The problem does not exist using Chrome. See attached screen shots please.

I was able to use Google Forms in the past, this started a few months ago as I recall.

Thanks in advance for you help.
