I have been using Firefox on my HP laptop w/ Vista since the day I received the computer without incident. Last night, I attempted to "Google" something on the search bar and my Firefox froze on a white screen; the bottom toolbar read, "Transferring data from www.google.com"

I then tried to access my Gmail email --- no luck. Google maps would not load, Google.com loaded but I was unable to search, etc etc etc.

I have upgraded to the most recent version of Firefox (3.6.xxx, whatever was available as of today), I have done a Norton and a Malware Bites scan, I have upgraded flash/java...I have even cleared my cache, placed Google in the "Allow" list in Cookies, disabled add-ons --- NOTHING WORKS. (And yes, I even restarted my computer, too.)

I do NOT want to have to use Chrome or IE. I want to still use my Firefox, but if I can't fix it by the end of today, then I guess I'm out of luck. HELP ME FIREFOX! You're about to lose a loyal user because I cannot access my (VERY IMPORTANT) email accounts!

Anyone have a solution?

I use firefox with my earthlink account. When the earthlink browser page loads .. and for that fact, when most pages load, a bar appears that says "Firefox Prevented this Page from Automatically Reloading." on the far right side of the bar is a Box " ALLOW" and the Red "X" Box. When I click Allow, for about 20 to 30 seconds the bar is gone, but then slowly comes back. When I click the Red X ... it leaves and does not come back until I do something using the right mouse button or the enter key!

When I try to open a local php file on my MAC hard drive with FF 3.6.8, the save file dialog box opens instead. It says: You have chosen to open index.php which is a TextEdit.app Document. I do not have this problem with Firefox 3.5.11.

I have tried: opening the file directly from Firefox as well as double clicking the file (which is the most common way).

I have also tried changing the file "open with" preference to "open with Firefox." That did not work either.

Any help on this would be appreciated. I'm on a MAC OS 10.5.8

Thnx, Nick

I have a WatchGuard XTM appliance. This is a security firewall. It has the capability of unencrypting https traffic for inspection and encrypting it again. To have it work for my Mac I had to import a certificate from the appliance and add it to Keychain. Safari now works. Next question - How do I add this cert to Firefox (3.6.8) for Mac. It's easy for PC. Please see below:

Import a PEM Format Certificate with Mozilla Firefox 3.x

Mozilla Firefox uses a private certificate store instead of the operating system certificate store. If clients on your network use the Firefox browser, you must import the certificate into the Firefox certificate store even if you have already imported the certificate on the host operating system.

When you have more than one Firebox or XTM device that uses a self-signed certificate for HTTPS content inspection, clients on your network must import a copy of each Firebox or XTM device certificate. However, the default self-signed Firebox or XTM device certificates use the same name, and Mozilla Firefox only recognizes the first certificate you import when more than one certificate has the same name. We recommend that you replace the default self-signed certificates with a certificate signed by a different CA, and then distribute those CA certificates to each client.

  1. In Firefox, select Tools > Options.
     The Options dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Advanced icon.
  3. Select the Encryption tab, then click View Certificates.
The Certificate Manager dialog box appears.
  4. Select the Authorities tab, then click Import.
  5. Browse to select the certificate file, then click Open.
  6. In the Downloading Certificate dialog box, select the Trust this CA to identify web sites check box. Click OK.
  7. Click OK twice to close the Certificate Manager and Options dialog boxes.
  8. Restart Firefox.

Firefox lags while streaming embedded and non-embedded videos, video comes out jerky while sound keeps playing smooth.

Either this problem gets solved or I figure out how to fix it or I'm switching to Chrome or back to Safari, neither of which has these problems. Gonna miss NoScript, though.

I've been using Mozilla on my current laptop for a couple years now. However, recently, Mozilla has been returning a white page with the words "invalid http request header" at the top. If I hit the "back" button, it will reload and successfully load the intended page. This is not limited to any yahoo site. Whether I'm clicking on google search results or directly navigating to a site, I get this message and white page on about half the websites I try to visit. In fact, this website returned the same words. It's getting so frustrating that I'm going to go back to IE if I can't fix this.

New tabs are appearing at random times in my Firefox window. I can leave firefox open, and come back to the computer and have new tabs that have appeared. I can be actively working in another tab, and have a new tab appear. I think this started when a game from popcapgames.com was downloaded to my machine. This game was not ever run on the machine - as far as the downloader will admit. I tried to access Spybot Search & Destroy from this machine, and I suspected that I was not getting the correct site, but a forgery instead. I used a different machine to get Spybot onto a memory stick and installed it onto my machine. I've run it several times, and it has removed considerable amounts of spyware from this machine. But, I'm still getting unwanted Tabs popping up. I've verified that the pop-up blocker is still set in firefox.
