Whenever I download a file Firefox downloads two of the same file. One is an empty file and the second file is the right size.

Example: I want to download a file called blender-4.0.1-macos-x64.dmg, when I start the download the first copy shows up immediately in my download folder called blender-4.0.1-macos-x64.dmg with zero bytes but another one is still downloading. Once that one is fully downloaded too I have another one in my download floder called blender-4.0.1-macos-x64-1.dmg.

Not sure how to prevent that, it is very annoying

I'm having a problem with Win 11 that will likely require that I reinstall the OS. I decided to move most of the data in my User folder by right clicking and changing the drive from "C:" to "E:" in the Locations tab. Firefox was closed as a I did this, it worked fine, and then I restarted the PC. Upon opening Firefox none of the extensions are working and I'm not sure what to do.

Over the years I have accumulated important links in my Firefox Bookmarks bar and passwords file and it would be a disaster if for some reason my hard drive got compromised and I could no longer access them. Is there any way to copy the data to another set-up, independent of my laptop, from where the data could be retrieved in a usable form for display on another laptop or PC? Thanks.

I've been doing this sort of exercise for some time, but I want to verify exactly which files and folders I can confidently transfer from one profile to a new or an already established profile without causing unexpected issues.

According to Recovering important data from an old profile , these are the files that can be moved:

places.sqlite favicons.sqlite key4.db logins.json permissions.sqlite search.json.mozlz4 persdict.dat formhistory.sqlite cookies.sqlite cert9.db handlers.json

I also include:

The "sessionstore-backups" folder sessionCheckpoints.json sessionstore.jsonlz4

Here's the list I need feedback for:

The "settings" FOLDER

activity-stream.discovery_stream.json activity-stream.topstories.json AlternateServices.txt autofill-profiles.json blocklist.xml broadcast-listeners.json cert9.db compatibility.ini containers.json content-prefs.sqlite notificationstore.json pkcs11.txt protections.sqlite SecurityPreloadState.txt serviceworker.txt signedInUser.json SiteSecurityServiceState.txt targeting.snapshot.json Telemetry.FailedProfileLocks.txt Telemetry.ShutdownTime.txt times.json webappsstore.sqlite xulstore.json

Please also let me know if any other folders are ok to relocate as well.

How do I completely delete all traces of prior Firefox install? I believe my browser became corrupted. I uninstalled it and then went to the C drive and deleted all associated folders. As far as I know, I have no files saved as webpages but I do not know how to confirm in Windows 10. When I download Firefox I get the message saying a copy has been installed on my computer before. How do I completely remove any trace of Firefox so I can fresh install?

Dear Community,

I am trying to download a large file. Am on a course, and the main tutor has given the group a file to download. Have tried downloading this 5 times, but get little luck. The file that I would want to download is 8.5GB, and the furthest I get is about 4GB.

I have 2 questions about this.

1) I seem to have a very 'in and out internet connection. It seems to go down at times for no reason, cutting off the download. Is there anything I could do about this? How could I troubleshoot this, please? 2) Does anybody know of any special tools that I can use to download in a more efficient manner, please? Perhaps an extension for Firefox might be able to do this, perhaps? Kind Regards to Anyone Answering this Query, Marek

Unfortunately, I had an issue with some software on my Windows 11 laptop, so I contacted Microsoft support. Having explained the issues in detail, the software engineer advised that he was downloading a 'Windows 11 repair key'. Actually, what he did do, was wipe my laptop of all data.

Thankfully a Microsoft engineer using my OneDrive account managed to recover everything with my apps etc, however, all my browsing history and more importantly, passwords from Firefox have gone. As I am always signed into Firefox, is there a way of recovering them, or are they lost? I had to reinstall Firefox and logged back into the account, so does Firefox keep backups?

Thanks

New computer (Windows 11) shows 'Old Firefox Data'. Opened hidden files. Using File Explorer found Profile Folder & renamed it 'old'. Copied and pasted 'Old Firefox Data' as new profile. Firefox would not open. Had to remove etc and Firefox worked again. Thought this maybe the easiest way to get my Bookmarks back.

PS Presume Profile Folder does not contain Thunderbird Addresses?

Hi, there is a remote desktop server (aka. terminal), where many various users logs in an uses various applications, including Firefox. Each user has Firefox profiles generated in C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles , but only one profile is a default profile for each individual user. I have two main questions, related to the profiles: 1) in which circumstances a new profile is generated? I see, some users have 3 profile directories, some 5 profile directories. Of course, one profile directory (of a few existing) is a default one. 2) is there any setting in Firefox configuration/FF ADMX Policy/anywhere else, which can help to leave only a default Firefox profile and remove old unused profiles automatically? I know, that it's possible to do that manually by running firefox.exe -p , removing unused profiles and leaving only a default one, but that is not an option. Solution should be automated.

For context, I accidentally made my root D: folder into the downloads folder and during this time I was still able to download using firefox. But when I finally changed the folder to my default one, firefox stopped being able to download anything larger than 1gb files. I can still download small images but anything larger than that I can't download. Else, it would only just show "Failed" in the downloads bar.

I've tried: 1. Changing the download location

>Also tried reindicating my download location

2. Turned off dangerous downloads 3. Putting an exception to the sites I try download from 4. Clearing the downloads 5. Tried troubleshooting mode 6. Restarting my computer 7. Restarting Firefox

I can't download on firefox but the same files I can download on Chrome.
