Hello,

I love the tagging bookmarks feature in Firefox. But unfortunately it does not work properly like explained in the help docs.

I search for tags by typing '[+] + [Tag]'. This works for me but I only can search for 10 entries maximum.

Why there is this limitation to bookmark entries in my search bar? And how can I see all my tagged entries even when there are more than 10?

Kind regards Benni

I have asked before, but it appears that it is not possible to stop Firefox updating; whatever advice I am given just turns out to be legacy which is no longer applicable or the work of fantasists that does nothing at all. So now I am on 98.0.2 whether I wanted to or not. And I do not! So can someone tell me why I have to go through complicated procedures in order to get the bookmarks working as before. I am also no longer able to use the Logitech Media Server advanced settings as the default address no longer opens in Firefox. This is why I don't want to update EVER. Every time Firefox updates it changes things just for the sake of changing and takes ages to put everything back to a working state. And for why? Just to appease those that believe their ability to program gives them some god like ability which we should be praising without question. All the time the updates are claimed to be for security reasons. I can see no reason why changing the appearance of bookmarks and making them display as several double spaced columns relates in any way to making the software more secure. Perhaps one of these gods would inform us mere mortals what the purpose of deliberately pissing off users serves? Also, I can see no reason why Logitech Media Server would now be considered as a security risk when I have been using it for more than a decade. Once again I am forced to use Edge until such time that Firefox release another version to put right yet another software screw up. Why is no one apparently in charge of the software release, why have they not heard of beta testing and why can't they issue a repair to rectify their own incompetence?

I needed to move a lot of bookmarks to my laptop in order for it to have the same links as my desktop PC.

First I tried export to HTML and importing the HTML to Firefox on the laptop but it didn't change the bookmarks.

Then I tried backing up the bookmarks on the desktop PC and Restoring them on the laptop. It warned me that it was going to erase all bookmarks and replace them with the bookmarks from the .json file I supplied. Since this is what I wanted to do, I proceeded.

I closed the Bookmark Manager and checked the bookmarks and they were unchanged. I tried restarting Firefox and even rebooting but it will not overwrite the previous bookmarks even though the .json file is listed correctly as the new one I moved from my desktop PC.

I'm going to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it after deleting any directories under Mozilla but before I do that I thought I'd ask and see if anyone else has had this problem.

I have the latest version on Win10 and Firefox 91.0.2 64 bit.

I needed to have Windows 10 wiped and reinstalled from my laptop, and the guy who did it cloned my files to save everything. I saw instructions on another post on how to find the bookmarks file under Profile, but it didn't do anything after confirming that it would wipe out all current bookmarks. What am I doing wrong?

Version 91 is causing double spacing on drop down menus, ie: bookmarks. In previous versions we were allowed to change to single spacing, but not on 91. When will firefox fix this issue and go back to single spacing? Because of this issue I re-installed version 90 and will not update to future versions unless fixed.

Recently a bookmark was randomly deleted. FireFox has been doing this for the last several version. But, before, it wasn't much of a problem - I'd just do a restore from a bookmarks bu file that had the bookmark that had been deleted.

But not this time.

Clicked on the day I wanted, and got the usual warning that it would replace all the existing bookmarks. But when it was run, it deleted all the bookmarks, but did not replace them with the ones from the bu file.

I then had _no_ bookmarks. There were none displayed, except for the star, something else I don't remember, and 'Other Bookmarks'. But clicking on these showed no content - they were empty.

At one point, and sometimes, a small window appeared saying 'Unable to process the backup file'. But this was after the current bookmarks had been deleted.

I'm on 91.01, 64bit. I found other, earlier 9x versions, dl'd and installed them. The attempt to restore bookmarks also failed running them

I then dl and installed a 89.x. But of course when I tried to run it, I got the warning about potential problems and the only choices to create a new profile or to exit. I chose to exit, and reinstalled the current version from a fresh dl.

After a few more attempts and system reboots, after the last reboot the current bookmarks reappeared, w.o. the deleted bookmark (as expected). I have no idea why.

Bottom line: I can no longer depend on FireFox. Fortunately, the deleted bookmark had relatively little content, so it can be recreated with 2 or 3 hours work. But what happens when a bookmark with lots of content gets deleted? I have bookmarks that have content going back at least 10 years. There is no way I could recreate them. Years of work would be lost. I don't understand why, if the backup file couldn't be processed, the operation wasn't aborted w.o. making any changes. This is what a failed process should do by default.

I find myself incredulous that the FireFox development team let such an egregious bug slip through. That's unacceptable.

Until sometime around earlier this year, I was able to use "Import bookmarks from HTML" between different PCs/laptops, and it would always restore everything flawlessly from that backup file: all folders intact, and every single bookmark in the exact order it's been for about 14 years.

But now, whenever I use the Import feature, all folders are flattened/emptied and everything goes into alphabetical order. No matter what I do, they will not load in my uniquely crafted order (based on the sidebar, which I use exclusively). Everything goes into a single unmanageable lump in Bookmarks Menu.

Restoring from JSON makes no difference.

Versions tested from 78ESR all the way to 91. At one point, I went back to 88 and it worked fine for a day or two, but then didn't.

I have bookmarks in my bookmarks menu list that the bookmarks manger doesn't show. How do I rectify this so that I can manage all my bookmarks? I've read all the "Get Help" sources I can find, but none seem to apply to my problem. Why can't firefox just make all the bookmarks drag and drop, without having to go into the manager, it would be a game changer?

Hello,

My questions concerns the "Remove Folder" selection.

I right-clicked a folder on the bookmarks drop-down menu, and accidentally selected remove folder. Does this mean that the folder has been deleted or does it mean that it has been collapsed and the constituent book marks have been moved elsewhere (other bookmarks, bookmark toolbar, etc).

If the folder has in fact been deleted, is there any way of retrieving it?

Thank you for your help.

I am unable to delete bookmarks using any of the standard methods: cut, remove, delete and am not comfortable venturing down the rabbit hole of " places.sqlite" . I have good enough computer skills but have no business going into that realm. This seems absurd to me that this requires delving into the deep files and clicking on things I do not understand that sound like I'm doing something I shouldn't be touching.

Any solution??

The latest update took out all the bookmark icons to get to those bookmarks, got rid of MANY folders withing the bookmarks, then added a bookmarks under the "Open Application Menu. I serve as a moderator for several different websites, and need to be able to keep all those websites separated, and discrete when I am online. I also had at least 3 to 5 different folders within the bookmarks tab which I used extensively to cut down on my time spent looking for a link. This has slowed down my response time within the communities I moderate, as well as increased my workload dramatically. I want that Bookmark Tab back, either by a NEW update, or somehow loading the PREVIOUS version of Firefox Browser instead of this newest iteration, which for me is a real headache.

How can I get my info back and into bookmark folders like I have been using for several years?

How does one search through one's hundreds of "Bookmarks" (including those in Bookmark Folders)?

I have a ton of "Bookmarks", so navigating through them has become a chore. It would really help me to be able to search through them. I found a similar question, but the response is already outdated, as it is from like 2013, so it's no longer helpful. Thanks in advance.
