Hello,

My privacy settings never actually save. More specifically, the autofill username/password settings. Every day I have to go back and check the box for autofill. I would like this setting to just remain so I don't have to do this every day. My Firefox is up to date.

Updated to Firefox 83 and now my browsing history in 'History' and in 'Show All History' will not delete despite my preference settings being correct and having tried deletion in all possible ways. Something is wrong because after I have clicked 'Clear Recent History' or closed Firefox with 'Delete on closing' selected, the preference page shows a change in the kb being used to store history, yet the browsing history has not been cleared. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or let Firefox know?

I have recently been suffering an issue where the browser becomes unresponsive and consumes massive amounts of hardware resources especially memory, in one case was using over 60 gigabytes of combined physical and virtual memory.

I have tried refreshing with Firefox Refresh, reinstalling and the problem still persists.

I believe it is either one of the addons Tree Style Tabs, but I don't know how to accurately diagnose this though, as sometimes I am able to get to the about:addons and disable one or the other but the problem doesn't go away and in some cases escalates to freezing the whole process.

When the application does this, the currently selected pages still work say I have one open of the ABC news website, I can still scroll up and down, but if I click a link to another article or something, nothing happens, same applies if I try to do anything with the address bar, the history and suggestions pop up but the browser doesn't do anything even after I hit enter.

I'd like to try and find out what the program is doing during this state of unresponsiveness, I left it for a couple of hours last week to see if it could work itself out, turns out it couldn't and the system ran out of Ram and fell over. I'd like to know how to diagnose it, know what it's doing, what it's hung up on and if it's related to an addon, tell the creator about it.

I apologise if this is not the correct way to go about this, I have just run out of patience trying to fix this myself.

I can't seem to connect to Google.com anymore. I get

Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue

Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.google.com because this website requires a secure connection.

What can you do about it?

www.google.com has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it.

If you are on a corporate network or using anti-virus software, you can reach out to the support teams for assistance. You can also notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

as the error. I've tried various things like deleting certificates, refreshing firefox, and even uninstalling firefox. Nothing works and I don't want to go back to Edge. Google.com works fine on edge, and I have a document saved as a start up tab that works fine on firefox. Drive also doesnt work, but accounts.google.com works so I can sign in.

Hey!

First time I get that, I usually lose my tabs due to my mistake but this morning after starting my PC all the tabs were gone with no option to restore or any error message. I backed up my previous session json and other files by hand but every time i copy it back into my profile folder and rename it sessionstore.jsonlz4 it just gets deleted after I open firefox and none of my old tabs get loaded. I scrounged the files before and saw that they contain my lost tabs, I just can't seem to restore them. I tried reinstalling firefox too but that didn't help.

Did the restore system change or is the backup corrupt ? Thanks!

Possible bug/design issue of Firefox on a page refresh regarding a cached asset under `Cache-Control: no-cache` with an etag

Crossposted from SO: What is the exact behavior of Firefox on a page refresh regarding a cached asset under `Cache-Control: no-cache`? Where can I find a document that specifies it?

On MDN regarding how `Cache-Control: no-cache` is supposed to work, I see that "the stored response MUST always go through validation with the origin server first before using it". Browsers use etags for this.

(Note: `Cache-Control: no-cache` actually allows caching; it isn't `no-store`; don't want that to confuse any answers.)

I author a web site that has a ordinary `<link>` to the main css file, with `Cache-Control: no-cache`, and sometimes Firefox makes the request as specified (an "etag request") which results in a 304 usually (or a 200 with the content if not).

But sometimes Firefox avoids such an "etag" request, especially when I press F5 to do an ordinary refresh. Chrome and Edge seem to always make these "etag requests", as I expect.

So that seems to go against MDN. **What is the intended behavior, and where is it documented?** And finally, is there anyway to coax Firefox into making the etag request on every F5 refresh?

Here are screenshots of the behavior: first request, and then after pressing F5 to refresh: https://i.stack.imgur.com/37zhu.png https://i.stack.imgur.com/ezpYl.png

Tabs of FF keep crashing at random. This occurs on websites that I regularly visit and that usually do not crash. Restarting FF and reopening the very same website works without crashing. Usually the crashes occur only after a few tabs are open, but there is no clear pattern as to why, when, or how they occur. No websites are particularly prone, it does not occur in any pattern time-wise, and also does not seem to be linked to the number of open tabs.

This has been happening for a while now, i.e., even across different FF versions.

I am using up-to-date FF on the most recent version on Win10 on an otherwise perfectly fine working computer (Intel Hades Canyon NUC) with plenty of resources.

In recent weeks, calls with audio have become buggy in Firefox. Whenever I engage in a call that accesses the microphone while I have a bluetooth headset connected, the headset starts continuously toggling call mode on and off for an extended duration. This can be anywhere from 10 seconds/3ish toggles to never-ending (meaning I got tired of waiting after about 3 minutes/55ish toggles).

Today I finally decided to debug further. Here are my findings:

  • Problem only exists in Firefox. I tested with Safari, Chromium, Slack and Discord, with no trouble presenting itself in any of them
  • Problem relates to all bluetooth headsets. I have tested with Sennheiser Momentum 2 Wireless and Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless, with both exhibiting the problem in Bluetooth mode. If I have no bluetooth headsets connected, the problem does not present itself. There is also no problem if I connect the Arctis using the wireless base station (which in turn is connected to the laptop by USB) instead of bluetooth. Using the base station, call and non-call are exposed to my mac as different/simultaneous channels — this may have something to do with it.
  • Problem persists with hardware acceleration toggled off
  • Problem persists in safe mode
  • Problem persists in private mode
  • Problem persists both on Whereby.com and Discord.com. On Whereby, it also interferes with the camera. This leads me to believe it might have something to do with WebRTC, as I think both websites use it.
  • Problem persists after reinstalling Firefox
  • On a possibly related note: if I end the voice chat session after it has stabilised, call mode toggles off slowly and always sends a "start playing media" signal to my Mac, even if it didn't pause anything when toggling call mode on.

In sum, this leads me to believe there is some sort of bug in Firefox causing this, but the lack of other topics on here with the same problem makes me skeptical. I am open to any suggestions with regards to further testing I can do. This is obviously very annoying, and I would like to have bluetooth calls working again.
