Firefox's onboard spellchecker needs to go back to college, or probably high school! Every day I have several words with the dotted underline, telling me they're not words, or not spelled correctly. However, when checking the dictionary, I confirm that the spell-check feature is wrong, and I am correct! I don't want to disable it completely, as it does let me know when I've made a typo, which I can quickly correct, but it's a pain in the butt to keep having it say something's wrong with a word, and there's not... I honestly can't believe it can be that hard to use a source that's accurate, when it's something on everyone's screen that uses Firefox...

Something changed a couple months ago where Firefox's spell check began only catching about half of my typos. Over the last 15 years I have become used to my browser providing spell checking services, looking for the little red lines to point out my mistakes, so now that this feature has stopped working reliably I am constantly submitting items with embarrassing typos, having to go back and edit almost every single post I make after the fact. Is there any way to get this working properly again? Thanks.

Hello!

I am multilingual and write in multiple different languages, and the red markings from spellcheck underneath non-English sentences get annoying when they are so frequent. I understand that I can install multiple dictionaries, but that does not allow me to use more than one language's spellcheck at a time.

Is it possible to activate 2+ language dictionaries in Firefox?

Thanks for the help, Sylvan

Hello.

I'm experiencing some strangeness with the spellcheck on Firefox and would like to know if anyone can help.

I often seem to mistype "don't" as "don;t." Same with "won't." Firefox does not mark these as incorrect. But if I type "shouldn;t" or "couldn;t" I get a red underline.

Is there something I can edit to get those words with a semicolon to be marked as misspelled?

I'm using FF 91 on Win 7. But it's been this way for a long time, many different versions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was changing my language setting in Firefox (only) from English (US) to English (UK)(the only other option was English-Canada) as I am in Australia and we use the United Kingdom spelling anyway. Within Firefox itself (not emails or off site pages) it STILL insists that COLOUR is spelt wrong & it allows me to spell NITE (not day) incorrectly. i have an Oxford dictionary in front of me & can reference a WEBSTERS all day long. There are many, many countries that have English as their primary language, Ghana is one & some South Pacific Islands (now the French have buggered off) The Seychelles off Africa have English as their official language & you can bet 'they' would have odd spellings. So no English (Australian) that's why the word Galah doesn't even get a look in. A Galah, by the way, is a VERY common Australian bird & in anyone's language. I'm guessing there is NO American word for Cockatoo too. I will have to look that up in my Funk & Wagnalls. Funk & Wagnalls was an American publisher known for its reference works, including A Standard Dictionary of the English Language, and the Funk & Wagnalls Standard (reference Wikipedia). Well, well, not only Webster trying ton undermine (Bastardize) (its actually S not a Z) standard English but Fucken Wagnall was in on it too!

Anneeeway just a heads up. using Firefox Browser (64-bit) on a Windows 7 Ultimate (Service Pack 1) I guess support for Win7 will be gone soon anyway Microsoft will see to that.

Looking for a suitable LINUX replacement. Thanks, bye.

So, I've come to realize that, over a recent PC upgrade, the red, squiggly underline on misspelled words disappears when the Backspace key is hit. I'm glad that Pocket has reappeared on my home page, since I spent hours trying to find it a couple of years ago, unsuccessfully, after it disappeared, but now this spell check issue is a bit disconcerting. But now it appears that it only happens within Facebook ...there's a surprise. Nope, it's Messenger/Firefox only. Messenger/Edge works as it should (red squigglies remain, despite depressing Backspace), and the squigglies also remain within this text field. So it seems specific to Messenger/Firefox. Firefox (96.01)

Hi

I have the Mexican Spanish Language Pack, which I installed to use when typing/spellchecking messages (in Spanish of course) in gmail, but I can’t make it work. Right clicking in the Compose box in gmail still offers me English only.

My Firefox interface is in English and I don’t want to change it.

Thanks in advance
