I'm running Mojave 10.14.6 on a MacMini (late 2018) with 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 and Firefox v86.0 64-bit.

I need to disable Command+D that's currently used to "Bookmark This Page".

I need Command+D for another use.

I've searched about:config for "bookmark" and get a lot of hits, but I can't tell which one controls the setting for Command+D.

Or . . . am I barking up the wrong tree?

I want to disable Command+D.

Leaving the ability to mouse up and click Bookmarks > "Bookmark This Page" is ok.

I just need to disable the keyboard shortcut Command+D for "Bookmark This Page".

Anyone got a "howto" for this?

Thanks!

The Pop-Up for the radio-player of my favourite radio-station is always too big. When I open it, the lower part of the Pop-Up is hidden by the taskbar. When I try to pull the upper part down, to pull the whole Pop-Up-window into the screen, the upper part suddenly jumps down. With a screen ratio bigger than 100% it can happen the whole Pop-Up disappears below the taskbar. The radio-station writes that it is a problem by Firefox. In Chrome the Pop-Up has the right size. (here the site with the problem https://www.srf.ch/radio-srf-virus/ press on "Jetzt Hören")

My god, this is driving me nuts. I will decide if and when I want to "update" a program, excepting of course the steaming pile that is Windows 10 where they cram it down your throats, often at a profoundly inconvenient time.

But after doing some upgrades to an old computer and installing v. 86 of FF, two days later it's in constant nag mode. I've shut off everything I can, I've tweaked about:config so much it's a wonder it still works at all. Everytime I start up the computer it displays a notification about do I want to allow FF to make changes. Not no, it's hell no. Everytime I start up FF I get a popup, (uh, wasn't FF supposed to have eliminate them?) nagging at me to upgrade. Then if I'm on for a while it nags me again. The more I get nagged, the more I push back. Now I may break something, FF, keyboard, whatever, but nagging me will not result in me doing what the nag wants. "Updates" over the years have made so many more things worse than better I can't even count. I've been using FF for ~15 years, generally been happy with it, but this is driving me nuts. How to I fix it? Fix, as in repair so it works like I want it to and like it used to. It's broken. Or should I just migrate to another browser?

I raised the problem and had a response kindly trying to assist but after following all the steps advised I still can't access any bookmarks or history.

I have located the places.sqlite file as advised and renamed it but when I restart Firefox nothing changes and it makes no attempt to recover bookmarks from the backup files.

I would welcome any assistance as I have saved details I need.

Thank you.

Hello Mozilla Community,

While selecting all my tabs to move some of them to another window, I misclicked and it opens them all twice.

Immediately after I made the mistake to accept closing what I thought was the doublons, but instead it closed them all except for the few doublons remaining.

There were many important tabs opened months ago, that's why I'm asking help.

I don't know what happened but I found this thread (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1310742) and followed some of the steps.

I managed to recover the recovery_backlzk4 in excellent state from around twenty minutes before the problem, and tried to read the URLs from it with this person's tool: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html

It did not work, so I don't know what to do.

Can someone explain me if there is still something to do about it or not?

Thank you very much

Hello there,

It's probably a simple one line of code solution, but I don't find the answer or how to do it.

I started yesterday writing add-on code for Firefox using javascript. I'll try to explain what I want to accomplish here.

There is a feature with the browser where we can drag and drop the website URL to the desktop to create a shortcut file that will open the website at the URL address. This works fine, but it can be tiring manual work.

I'm trying to accomplish the same result, but with code so that when I download a file with the add-on its URL shortcut is also automatically saved.

I searched enough to see at least one other add-on that seem to be able to save a URL as file, but there's a few problem. One is that the file does not contain the thumbnail like the original URL created from the browser itself. Another is that the file size takes 10 to 100 times more storage space. Lastly, when I open it Windows display a warning message that needs to be answered to continue. That extra step gives a bad experience. I admit that I haven't looked at the code yet, but I suspect that it won't do the result that I want even if I understand how it works which I'll take a chance to do.

Overall, I would say that I found nothing like the default drag and drop option.

I'm afraid that if I ask if is there such feature the answer will be negative.

Any help is welcome. Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to find out what's causing this behavior. My firefox sometimes, specifically when opening a second tab (doesn't happen on a third, fourth, fifth, etc. tab) and pressing F (like starting to type Facebook), makes my entire screen to fade to black for 1 second, and then comes back. If I do type facebook, it shows "acebook", ignoring the F entirely. It doesn't seem like a crash, it seems a lot like a functionality of sorts that's acting up, because it doesn't go black just like that, it fades. And it always takes the same amount of time with that fade.

What's worse, it doesn't always happen. If it happens once I can replicate it and keep doing it, but as I use the browser and it stops doing it, I can't do it again. Until, well, it does.

This is the weirdest thing. How does firefox control my entire screen like that? What's it doing? What instruction on my keyboard is F sending to firefox?

I haven't found anything like this happening to anyone online.

Any help please?

When I download a file and click on the downloads button to bring up the Downloads menu, I often just want to open the Linux Mint file manager in the right folder so I can move the file to a more appropriate place.

In the menu, there's the little button to the right of the listed downloaded file with "Open containing folder", but if I click on that, FF opens the downloaded file, not the file manager.

Obviously this wasn't always like this, but I don't recall doing anything that might have caused the issue. How can I set FF back to the default action of opening the Linux Mint file manager?

Thanks!

Hello,

I've been getting an error for some time now. Firefox tabs suddenly crash (usually media tabs with video, like Twitch or video conference sites) and I can't seem to find a solution. But most importantly, many videos or live streams show graphic artifacts. You can check it in the attached screenshot). I have tried many things to solve it, but none worked. This is what I tried:

  • Changing cables and monitors.
  • Disabling extensions and plugins.
  • Disabling hardware acceleration.
  • Installing Firefox from scratch.
  • Installing an old version.
  • Installing Nightly.
  • Removing the GPU. The issue persisted with a different video card and with integrated graphics. So the GPU is not the issue.
  • Trying using another OS. I thought my Windows install might have been corrupt, but it also happened in Ubuntu.
  • Trying other browsers. I tried Chrome (which resulted in the issue as well) and Edge (which surprisingly did fine, it's my only solution right now).

I would love to keep using Firefox but it's a pain to watch media like this. I don't know if the issue might be from the motherboard or another component. Between the crashes and this I can't use it normally.

I can try providing any details needed to solve the problem. Could you please help me? I don't know what else I can try.
