Usually when I go to search for something, I type directly into the address bar. Most of the time it'll automatically just perform a Google search. Recently, however, the search engine has been changing to Yahoo, which is god-awful. I've looked around on the internet for answers but the address bar search engine, as well as the actual search box next to the address bar, keep setting themselves to Yahoo.

What I've done so far: Every time it switches from Google to Yahoo, I open about:config. I search for Yahoo and these pop up: [IMG]http://i44.tinypic.com/2rc1gyg.png/IMG

The status of the items in bold say "user set," but I haven't set any of those. Usually I reset them all to default, sometimes I will change the 2nd, 4th, and 5th items to Google.

I've also gone through my search bar settings and deleted every search engine except Google (these include Yahoo, Bing, Wikipedia, Ebay, Amazon, etc.). However Yahoo will randomly pop up.

I don't know what's causing it. But it's getting really annoying.

If you know how to solve this once and for all, please help!

Before the recent update, 19.0, I would google something and see [PDF] next to a link. I click the middle mouse button to open it in a new tab. Firefox would download the file and open it with Adobe Reader. I like this.

With the new update 19.0, the pdf file would be opened in the new tab. I have to go and down load it and then open it in Adobe. I don't like this.

I go into preferences under applications. I look to see if I can change this. Next to Adobe Reader document, I choose Use Adobe Reader, but when I click on a [PDF] link, it still opens the file in Firefox and not Adobe.

I want it back to the way it was.

Hello,

I've been having a problem with HTML5 video playing in firefox when hosted on GoDaddy. I'm almost positive that this is a server side issue but GoDaddy doesn't have the technical support to give me any more solutions than what they have repeatedly suggested. Here is the link to the index page I am having problems with:

http://gerardtonti.com/CV/index.html There is a video that plays above my name. You can see this in other browsers. The HTML for the video is this:

<video width="220px" height="227px" autoplay>
    		    <source type="video/mp4" src="http://www.gerardtonti.com/CV/img/Sneeze.mp4">
                    <source type="video/ogv" src="http://www.gerardtonti.com/CV/img/Sneeze.ogv">
                    <source type="video/webm" src="http://www.gerardtonti.com/CV/img/Sneeze.webm">
 </video>

GoDaddy has suggested creating an htaccess file that contains the following code:

AddType video/mp4 .mp4 .m4v
AddType video/ogg .ogv
AddType video/webm .webm

I have uploaded the htaccess file with this code and nothing happened. I've placed the file in the root and in the folder that contains the videos. Still nothing. I have had this problem with another client who hosts on GoDaddy as well. Is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks!

Gerard

A separate window popped up and said, "Congratulations, you have won the 2014 Annual Visitor Survey (Houston). I answered the survey questions, and then it gave me the choice of 3 prizes. That's where I stopped and realized that this may be a scam of some sort. Does Firefox even do this kind of thing, because it looks really well done. If not, is there a way to report this as a scam? If I did win something, that's great, but I want to make sure this is safe first. Thank you

Mac OS 10.6.8, Firefox 16.0.1, PDF Viewer 0.6.39 installed. In Firefox>Preferences>Applications, PDFs are supposed to be handled by the PDF Browser 2.4.4 plug-in for Preview. However, when I try to view a PDF in Firefox, I get this:

"We are sorry, but Adobe Reader is unable to show documents in this browser configuration.

"Please use your browser to download this file and open it in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.

"To avoid this message in the future, many browsers provide a way to turn off certain add-ons, and some are able to show this document natively. Please contact your browser vendor for more details."

Why is Adobe Reader trying to open the PDF when Preview is the default? How do I disable Adobe Reader from doing anything in Firefox?

I am now getting the 'well this is embarrassing...' message EVERY time I open Firefox; I have my Home page set to always open 9 tabs - these are the SAME tabs I have opened at start-up for about 2 years - WHY this annoying message now?! When I click 'close' the Home page opens with all the tabs with no problem, but the message is really irritating & doesn't seem to be telling me anything, as there isn't a problem with any of the tabs? NB: In case you ask 'why 9 tabs'?; these are essential websites I use every time I am browsing/working; I cannot keep opening them manually every time. Please advise why this message comes up as here seems to be no problem, & how I can get rid of it? Thanks.

I am on OSX.7.5 (old machine, cannot update.) Was just upgraded to Firefox 41.0.1. I can no longer select from any drop down list on any website. Prior to the upgrade, I could always select from drop down menus or autofill. There have been no other updates to any other software prior to this problem showing up. A few examples are: - I go to a website where it is asking for Name, Address, etc. The window shows up with prior entries, but I cannot highlight and select any option. - I am entering data such as credit card info, where I am required to select entries for the card type, expiration date, etc. Again, I cannot highlight or select my entries.

In most cases, I can type the entry (the whole thing, not just the first few characters) and hit "enter," to fill in the field. However, this is both annoying and does not always work.

I have restarted in Safe mode; no change to this problem. I have tried using autofill-type AddOns; still get the same problem.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I've been using the built-in pdf viewer for ages w/out issue. Today for the first time I found I could no longer view the pdf notes for my online Korean classes. Instead a save/download dialogue popped up.

Initially this problem included ALL pdf's that I tried to open in FF. It's been about 6 hours at this point - which is crazy - and I've gone through an extensive amount of troubleshooting methods (not necessarily in this order, aside from the last two):

  • Installed Schubert PDF Browser Plugin.
  • Disabled the built-in PDF viewer via preferences>applications, and switched to another viewer: schubert ... still got the save box.
  • Installed the Adobe PDF plug-in ... could not use (I'm using a Mac os x 10.7+ the adobe plug-in is buggy and not a viable option for me)
  • Deleted the mimetypes.rdf file ... no change.
  • Launched FF in safemode ... no change.
  • Enabled the built in viewer again via preferences>applications>portable document format (pdf)>preview in firefox.
  • Checked that 'pdfjs.disabled' was toggled to 'false' in about:config ... It was.
  • In about:config I reset 'plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types' to default, then modified the value to: 'video/mp4,application/pdf'
  • Deleted the mimetypes.rdf file.
  • Re-initialized the plugins database.

The problem continued until I re-initialized my plug-in database and tried deleting the mimetypes.rdf file again and doing another restart.

Now it seems most pdf's are opening fine with the built-in viewer and schubert. However the site which I initially ran into the problem with: http://www.koreanclass101.com will not open pdf's and still opens the save dialogue automatically whenever I click open the pdf links. It also does the same when I enter the pdf directly into the address bar.

I have to pay a subscription so I'm not sure you can access this link without being a student but here it is just in case: www.koreanclass101.com/pdfs/BB_L5_051611_kclass101.pdf

(note this same page also links to another pdf which is not hosted on koreanclass101, and that pdf is now opening fine for me.)

I've tried clearing cache and all cookies for koreanclass101, but even after doing that the problem persists. I'm wondering if the fact that there is Korean text on the PDF matters at all?? Though I'm not sure why it would.

I really need a fix for this! The lessons rely on the ability to switch back and forth from audio to pdf IN my browser. When I open the pdf's with preview and run the interactive lessons in FF at the same time, FF slows to a crawl and starts to hang every time I switch back and forth btwn programs.
