Forcing Cmd/Ctrl+click to ALWAYS open the link in a background tab - even in Google Docs?

My preferences are set so that "When you open a link, image or media in a new tab, switch to it immediately" is OFF. Therefore most of the time when I Cmd+click on a link, it opens on a new tab that loads in the background. This is what I want.

However, some websites break that behavior. 2 high-profile examples:

  • In Google Docs, if a piece of text links to an URL, clicking on the text shows a small window with the URL. Cmd+click on that URL opens it in a new tab, and takes me to that tab.
  • In Facebook Messenger, if I Cmd+click on a chat, again the chat opens in a new tab and I'm taken there. Additionally, the original tab activates that chat.

Interestingly, in both these cases, I get the right behavior if I right-click on the URL or in the chat and in the contextual menu choose "Open link in new window/tab/container tab": the new tab stays in the background.

So my question is: does anyone know of a way to always make cmd+click behave just like "Open link in new tab", no matter the website?

I'm on Firefox 115b4 on macOS, but this has been like this for years at least.

I'm getting loads of SSL errors when trying to connect to various web pages. The errors don't seem to relate to the target pages, something in the connections fails.

The symtoms appear to be similar to this closed bug which doesn't seem to have been resolved. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1378352

Two of the more recent errors were: SSL_ERROR_DECODE_ERROR_ALERT SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_READ

There were several more which I don't remember.

Has anyone come up with a resolution?

When I'm using my Firefox browser and signing in to my Gmail account, the autofill function always gives me several old, expired gmail account names that I don't wish to see anymore. It's very annoying. I think I have turned off all the autofill options under Firefox>Preferences, but all these old account names keep showing up. Any suggestions for how to solve this? Thank you

I've tried the F9 Keyboard Shortcut, I've tried other Reader Add-Ons, this function simply doesn't work with Outlook. Either when in the Inbox, or with an opened Email. Anyone else encounter this?

Anyone know of a solution to making this work?

On a VERY side note: Here is my 1st initial text, when I believed the problem was about Firefox Add-Ons (I now have discovered it's not about the Add-Ons, it's the about the Reader View function). << When double-clicking on an Email, on the Outlook web site (https://outlook.office.com/mail/), the Email opens in a new window. When the new Window is opened, doesn't work.

When I click on Firefox's "Enhanced Tracking Protection" Icon and disable it, then the Extensions work. What's even weirder, is the behavior is the same for the REVERSE (if the Enhanced Protection is Disabled, the Keyboard Shortcut doesn't work until I "ENABLE" the Enhanced Protection).

Is there a setting in about:config that can return the functionality of Add-Ons (Extensions)?

On a side note, I found a setting to force the New Emails to Open in a new Tab instead of a new Window. The same bevaior is replicated, No improvement has been shown on that front. browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction = 0 >>

Hi there!

Disclaimer before you proceed: please remember that we all organize ourselves differently and my style is probably not your style.

My work laptop was stolen today, and I want to reopen the session I had on my old laptop. I can see all my synced tabs from my work Firefox's last session, and I could absolutely open them one at a time. However (please, reader, take a deep breath), I had 1357 tabs open (mixture of a tab suspender and organizer made this possible, to answer your horrified question). I have tried to "open all tabs" a couple times, but my poor, ancient laptop gets three tabs into the endeavor, blue-circles, and then Firefox crashes.

Is there a way for me to open all tabs such that they do not load all at once, or open slowly, or are suspended somehow? I'm sure the answer is no, but if anyone has a cool suggestion for making this insanity possible, please let me know.

Thanks community!
